Huge game changer for the world of synthesizers.  A big loss since he hadn't remained stagnant and was still developing synthesizers.  And we're not even getting into his efforts in getting MIDI as a standard going.

As with many of the older hands around here, MIDI has been part of my daily life from the moment I had two MIDI devices to plug together.  I also owned a wavestation for a while - another Dave Smith design - and still have it in plug-in form.

This really is a loss - he was still designing and innovating up until the end.
