Hi all,

Recently noticed I have a noise problem in my regular 1/4" out when my 13 pin cable is plugged in (Nylon string graphtech the worst, RMC 2nd best , External GK the best).

Plugging into an Axon, will try a roland gr55 unit but its affecting the actually regular guitar sound and inducing noise.

I tried a few cables the Primova definitely has the lowest noise...tried the ground lift on the axe-fx but not help.

I can noise gate it out but it is significant when present.

Any tips?

Most likely a ground loop from internal guitar ground connections between the GK electronics and the regular guitar jack.
No surprise if the GK-3 equipped guitar is best on the noise, as the two systems are not electrically connected if there is not patch cable from the GK-3 regular input to the guitar normal pickups (separate inputs to separate systems).
You could try with the GR-55 using the GR-55 guitar out to the AxeFx, although it does induce a bit of hiss under certain conditions.

Read the ground loop noise thread
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=2078.0

realize that noise from a ground loop often manifests as high Hiss  - instead of hum , due to switching power supplies on most gear today

Thanks for the tips! Well I found one solution using a wireless system lol.

I wonder if this would do the trick? Its more hiss/radio noise than any hum

No issues with the Roland so it must be the Axon (same issue that was giving me erratic Vol possibly).

Seems like a similar issue here, shame the axon forum isn't online and waybackmachine only has the thread titles :(

Hopefully the radial works!

EDIT Pulled out the USB cable problem gone....problem is I need it for the editor ...looking like a USB isolator might be the better fix?

We are investigating the issue with AX 50 and noise on the guitar out right
now and it seems that the noise comes out of the USB controller. Please do a
simple test: stick the shielding of a USB cable to the ¼” plug going to the
MOTU instrument input without connecting the AX 50. Do you get the noise
then as well?

We have modified a USB cable that it has no grounding at all and then the
noise is gone but we have to test if this has any side affects to the
performance and stability of the AXON before we will give an “official”
statement.
