Hi

Attached you will find my current VG99 MIDI Setup.
It works very good with G2M to play VST in Ableton Live.
The MIDI OUT of the VG99 is hooked to JV1010 (Hardware Synth from the past) and it works very good as well. It might be only a feeling but it's even better hardware to hardware than VG99 to VST.
I am trying to use VG99 MIDI routing to Play the JV1010 that is hooked only to VG99 from my DAW where I have a Master Keyboard attached to the iMac with an MIDI to USB cable. The Keyboard can play VST in Ableton Live no problem.
However I have tried any possible combination but it seems that there's no way to use the VG99 as a 'bridge & router' between my Master Keyboard - DAW and JV1010 via VG99.

Did you ever try this ? What I am missing?
Thanks a lot
Paolo

I believe you running into the VG-99's MIDI implementation disparity between its 5 pin MIDI I/O ports, and its USB Port ( MIDI over USB)

related is the VG-99 RRC2 port  - which uses a subset of MIDI over RJ-45 to the connected FC-300
footcontroller and its 5 pin MIDI I/O ports

MIDI over USB from a connected computer DAW may not "MIDI THRU" pass ALL received MIDI messages  to the VG-99 5 pin MIDI Out.

Perhaps the SY-1000 MIDI implementation between 5 pin MIDI I/O and MIDI over USB is superior to VG-99  - to be determined

Debug by using a third party MIDI Monitor

I use a Roland UM ONE MK II connected an iPad or Android tablet running a MIDI Montor app

Thanks Admin!

You sparked and idea in my mind and ... it worked.
My Master Keyb has a MIDI OUT 5 DIN. So I grabbed a cable and connected MIDI OUT with VG99 MIDI IN.
In this way there's the normal MIDI THRU working and I am able to play JV1010 using VG99 as an HW MIDI Interface.
I can get rid of the USB cable from VG99 to Computer and it works anyway. Old tech is so reliable.

I will investigate further to see if Ableton Live is all ok with a proper USB MIDI SETUP (Audio / MIDI Device) as I got a friend with a spare one.

Have a nice rest of the day/night. 8)
Cheers

If you set "MIDI OUT" to "from USB" in the pull-down menu does that work?  Make sure you are sending the keyboard midi data out to the usb from your DAW.

Hi Bluesbird. Tried and it didn't work.
I have never played with Audio MIDI Setup on my iMac (10.14) should I?
In the last years I only played VST and stopped using DAW as a bridge to external hardware.
???
Thanks!

Hi Bluesbird

I stand corrected. It works!
When setting your routing I need to move my Master Keyboard to a MIDI TRACK with NO VST in IT so that I can route to the proper output.
I simply forgot that after so many years without using my Hardware MIDI Module. Attached the Ableton Setting for those like me forgetting about it.

Thanks a lot

Cool; from there you can just make more MIDI tracks to buss that MIDI to whatever VSTs or Ableton instruments you'd like.

...and at the same time, use Guitar2Midi (Vg99 to Jv1010 via direct Midi cable) , play vst with my guitar, receive control cc from Ableton to manipulate Vg99 sounds...and use regular guitar via jamorogin to play jv1010 (this need to confirm with a proper test).
