Having read great posts about Bass Mode on the SY1K .. Does make sense to have SY1K in Bass Mode with a normal bass (no GK-3B?)
Just curious if you can obtain that 'Just an Illusion' Bass synth sound or other synth-like bass sound of the 80s? Or you need a GK-3B?

Thanks

Probably over-kill for that purpose. You could check out the SY-1, or the Source Audio C4.

OTOH, if you got an SY-1000, you would discover lots of other sound shaping options.

You should be able to create the illusion in guitar mode with a GK-3

IMHO, SY-1000 "Guitar Mode" provides many useful tools and several presets for Bass Applications

Thanks for replying and fresh points of view!

My Ibanez bass won't be getting a GK3b anytime soon but sometimes I'd like to add a bass chorus and Octaver. My GP10 doesn't like the hot output of the bass (active with preamp) while VG99 does a nice job with the internal octaver but the boss pedal works better. So I was thinking about SY1K as guitar synth that can double as a bag of Bass effects when needed instead of go getting the single boss bass pedals I need. That would cost me half of SY1K. Think a  bass compressor, chorus and octaver and you are in the 500 euros territory... 8)

If you're sure you aren't going to go the GK3B route, there are other multi-fx pedals you could consider, like a Fractal FM3, or maybe a Headrush MX5. But it's not apples-to-apples. The FM3 will give you great sound and gorgeous reverb. The Headrush is cheap, and much easier to use. I suspect the SY-1000 will deal with pitch better (not perfectly-- as is widely discussed here).

For me a very important factor is that the SY-1000 has such a fantastic modulation/control system.

Now that I've installed a GK-3B on my fretless, I feel less squeamish about someday putting one on my fretted bass. Honestly, I didn't care for the SY-1000 electric bass models-- they all sounded weird. But the acoustic sim with fretless (and flatwound strings) is quite nice. The ability to put together a complex signal path is also quite nice.

Thanks!

Being mostly a Guitar Player nowadays the SY1K looks promising to cover both bases. ;D
Still have to find all the money for all my projects but's another problem.  8)
