Amp in the Room tone

Messed with all that, two cabs, different verbs on each, early reflections... not quite convincing. Open to suggestions tho

It's nothing special, just gives me a bit of the sound I'm used to with a mic'd up cab in an iso booth.

The best I ever got stock cabs to sound was this setup:

You can't split the input into two separate paths, like Helix, if that is what you mean.

Ringleader42 wrote>

Yes, you can process two instruments separately in mono. I tested it last night.

First make sure you plug cables into each the LR inputs and LR outputs (or else it thinks it's mono and it won't work).

Then split the chain right after the input block (circle). Pan the Split Y to 100% L and 100% R.

Then put the mixer right before the output block (circle) and pan it to 100L and 100R.

Put whatever blocks you want on path A or B for each separate instrument. Done.

Edit: Actually you can run two instruments both with stereo outputs! If you do the above but then bring the mixer down to path B, then output LR are one instrument and Send 1/2 are the other instrument.

Split and mixer don't use a block. They are the points in which the paths intersect, or the circle in the bottom row when using the sends as the second LR output.

Please note that the PMS-2 (MIDI AMP CH Relay Switcher) does not support non-latched (momentary) mode, despite the product specs.  I had an application that required it and could not get it to work.  Technical support (such as it is) at Nux confirmed that it was actually never implemented.

I've got my HX Stomp switching the channels on my REVV Generator 7-40 Mk II

https://revvamplification.com/products/generator-7-40/

via PC (program change) over MIDI. It's takes a bit of work to setup but it does the job. On the Stomp, the PC messages that are automatically sent when you select a preset are baked in and can't be changed. Preset 1A is PC 000, 2A is PC001 and so on. So the best way I've found is to set it up on the amp. The REVV can accept anything from PC 1 to PC 128 so it can handle any of the PC's that the Stomp can send.

I'll set it up using 3 presets on the Stomp, 1 each for the clean, crunch and gain channels on the amp.

2.70 "The Marketplace Update"

New Features (Firmware 2.70)

Marketplace support—Marketplace is a new online destination that lets users purchase presets and impulse responses created by select third-party content gurus. From the lower left-hand corner of HX Edit, click "My Account" and then choose "Get More Presets..." or "Get More IRs..."

Three New Tuner Types—From the Tuner page, turn the Type knob to choose between "Fine" (color-changing needle tuner with fine tuning bar), "Coarse" (color-changing needle tuner with no fine tuning bar), and "Strobe". SEE IMPORTANT KNOWN ISSUE BELOW*

New Features (Helix Native 1.70)
Marketplace support—Marketplace is a new online destination that lets users purchase presets and impulse responses created by select third-party content gurus. From the lower left-hand corner Helix Native, click "My Account" and then choose "Get More Presets..." or "Get More IRs..."

Marketplace support—Marketplace is a new online destination that lets users purchase presets and impulse responses created by select third-party content gurus. From the lower left-hand corner of HX Edit, click "My Account" and then choose "Get More Presets..." or "Get More IRs..."

Multi-device support—HX Edit now opens a new window when multiple Helix or HX boxes are connected. For example, if you have Helix Floor and your bass player has HX Stomp, you can now connect both and quickly and easily copy and paste individual blocks back and forth. Windows can also be manually opened and closed from the Devices pull-down menu

Improvements

The tuner now accurately tunes notes down to 21.83 Hz (low F) for 5-string basses

HX Stomp only—Shortcut: If HX Stomp is in Preset or Snapshot mode, or FS3 in Stomp and Scroll mode has been assigned to something other than TAP/TUNER, you can now press ACTION and PAGE> together to open the Tuner screen

HX Stomp only—Shortcut: Press ACTION and <PAGE together to quickly toggle the Global Settings > Preferences > Snapshot Edits value

Bug Fixes
Helix Floor, Rack, LT only—A couple of amp models (including Cali Texas Ch 2) have their polarity reversed. When combined with another amp in parallel, this could cause phase cancellation. NOTE: This may affect the sound of some presets, especially if you swapped the polarity of Path B in the mixer block — FIXED

Helix Floor, Rack, LT only—Amp > Cali Texas Ch 1 could gradually decrease in level when Mid and/or Bass parameters are set to 0.0 — FIXED

Helix Floor, Rack, LT only—Delay models with two Time parameters could sometimes reset note divisions when changing snapshots — FIXED

HX Effects only—Clearing or cutting a block on Path B from HX Edit could sometimes HX Effects to freeze when in stomp footswitch mode — FIXED

HX Effects only—Switching from a preset with a Split > Crossover block to a preset with a Split > A/B block could sometimes cause HX Effects to freeze — FIXED

HX Effects only—When EXP Position is set to Global, the expression pedal's position could not be recalled immediately after switching presets, which could cause undesired signals to pass through — FIXED

HX Effects only—In rare cases, exiting the Tuner could sometimes slightly adjust signal level and tone — FIXED

HX Effects only—When connecting both left and right inputs, exiting the tuner could sometimes cause the right side of certain effects blocks to not be heard

HX Effects only—In very rare cases, engaging a certain combination of footswitches while connected to HX Edit and then power cycling HX Effects could clear certain blocks — FIXED

HX Effects only—From HX Edit, copying and pasting an Output block over itself could sometimes paste Mixer parameters — FIXED

HX Effects only—Switching Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > Tempo Select values while transmitting MIDI clock could sometimes result in sending incorrect tempi — FIXED

HX Effects only—After resetting Global Settings, Tap Tempo could become unresponsive while receiving MIDI Clock — FIXED

HX Effects only—HX Edit would not reflect the Looper > 1 Switch Looper's bypass status — FIXED

HX Effects only—Mixer parameter values could inadvertently be copied into new empty presets — FIXED

HX Effects only—Quickly changing snapshots from HX Edit could sometimes cause hardware and software to disconnect — FIXED

Helix Native only—Control/Command-click on parameter slider would not always snap to the hardware's default value — FIXED

Many other minor bug fixes and improvements

Known Issues
*IMPORTANT: The three new tuner types only appear for those registered users who didn't complain incessantly about Helix's previous tuner on social media. For those who did complain (AND WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE), the new tuner will be unlocked once you perform ONE of the following:
Post a photo of yourself on the Helix Facebook Group with the "><" logo written on your forehead in black Sharpie (washable magic marker is acceptable). The admins have been given the authority to unlock units with flagged serial numbers; assuming business hours, please allow 1-2 hours for the new tuner page to be unlocked (NOTE: You may have to restart Helix/HX for the new tuner page to appear)

Post a meme of Arnold Schwarzenegger from Kindergarten Cop yelling "IT'S NOT A TUNAAHH!" on either the Line 6 Helix—or—The Gear Page > Digital and Modeling Gear forum. Be sure to use the proper Impact font. Memes will not be judged for their artistic merit, although the spelling must be correct. Again, admins have been given the authority to unlock units with flagged serial numbers

If you'd prefer to participate silently, you may instead manually rename 47 presets "Patience is Key" (NOTE: Will not work from HX Edit; nor can you just copy one "Patience is Key" preset into 46 additional locations. You must manually rename each one. Once all 47 presets have been named correctly, the inspector [or FS5 on HX Effects] will read "Tuners unlocked!")

HX Effects only—When Tuner Type is set to "Strobe" and your string is waaay out of tune, the graphic tuner nodes may appear a bit glitchy

HX Effects only—In rare cases, moving an Impulse Response block from Path A to Path B can cause a second IR block to reset its impulse selection

Importing bundles containing Marketplace assets can take notably longer

When manually engaging a rebuild presets command (holding FS1+2 or FS2+3), Helix can appear to freeze even though it doesn't. Wait 15-20 seconds for the rebuild to complete and all is well

Loading a Distortion > Kinky Boost block can sometimes result in an audible thump

HX Edit currently only supports one or two Helix or HX devices connected at the same time (true multi-device support is forthcoming)

Wait, are you serious about the sharpie forehead, Schwarzenegger meme, and renaming 47 presets thing? No. This is why you always read the entire release notes

Compatible OS: Mac OS X, Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac OS Mavericks, Mac OS Yosemite, Windows 10, Mac OS El Capitan, macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra

Of course you can copy and paste Marketplace assets all day; they're tied to your user account. Yes, Helix will continue to load .WAV IR files and free CustomTone presets. This is a soft launch; more vendors will come online in the future, as soon as the platform is fully baked.

FYI - the firmware update (using Line 6 Updater) to the HX Stomp went smoothly, but immediately after a Win10 error message came up and froze my desktop computer. It may have been because I had a Helix also connected (but not turned on).
(Something about sending an error message to Microsoft and it specified Line 6)

I disconnected the Helix USB from my desktop and connected to my laptop.

I restarted and installed Hx Edit on my desktop, and everything looks ok now..

I then performed the firmware update for Helix (again using Line 6 Updater) on the laptop and the update went smoothly, as did the installation of Hx Edit 2.70 there.

A brief moment of panic, but everything now looks GREAT! Thanks, Line 6; you made my day! (Now I just gotta scrub this Magic Marker off my forehead... )

Has anyone figured out how (if it is even possible) to use a MIDI controller to toggle blocks on and off? Is this a possible function of HX Stomp or should I stop before I try? Thanks folks!
It's absolutely possible, and pretty darn easy with the Learn feature. Here's the relevant part of the manual:

I haven't found a way to use Helix presets in the Stomp. The only "partial" solution I've seen is IF you have both pieces of hardware, you can connect them at the same time, and then copy blocks over to the stomp and rebuild a preset that way.

digital igloo wrote>
Helix Native can load full Helix presets and then individual blocks can be copied/pasted into HX Edit (connected to HX Stomp). So if one downloaded X number of Helix presets into Native, they could quickly recreate them in Stomp within the free trial period. Maybe not ideal, but that's where we're at right now.

Boss GT-1000 / Helix Stomp midi question. Very cool rig - if it works!
guitarrob, Yesterday at 5:04 PM.

I just picked up a Helix Stomp as a back up rig for my Boss GT-1000, and as I was playing with it, I realized that it could become an amazing companion for GT-1000. I particularly like the Placater, and Essex 30 models, so I was thinking of having these two amp models in one preset of the HXS along with 2 speaker IRs, and access them via snapshot - controlled from the GT-1000. This way, I could access my favorite Helix amp tones right from the Boss GT-1000 for certain songs.

I first put the HXS in the loop of the GT-1000 and though the amp models we're at first quite low in volume compared to the amp models in the GT-1000, once I dimed the HXS volume knob and brought up the levels in the output section of the HXS, all was good.

Then I went to the midi tab of the GT-1000 in order to set up changing snapshots in the HXS. I was able to assign PC#'s and CC#'s, but I couldn't figure out how to assign CC values:

Here is what I need to assign in the Boss GT-1000 (I created the preset in HXS location 33A)

Snapshot #1 - PC096 / CC69 / 000
Snapshot #2 - PC096 / CC69 / 001
Snapshot #3 - PC069 / CC69 / 002

Am I missing something? Is there another, or better way to accomplish accessing HXS snapshots from the GT-1000?

Maybe by mapping the HXS to the Boss GT-1000 if this is possible? Elantric, if you're reading this, you may be the guy to help me with this? Or one the L6 or Boss gurus? Anyway, any help would be appreciated. If this works out, I would effectively have a Boss/HXS rig mounted on a Pedal Train 2 board that takes about the same floor space as a a full-size Helix Floor!

I can also confirm that the Strymon Zuma R300 happily powers both the HXS (with the adpater cable mentioned elsewhere on this thread and a Voodoo Labs current doubler cable connected to two outputs of the Zuma) and the Boss GT-1000 connected to one output of the Zuma.

Edit: Actually you can run two instruments both with stereo outputs! If you do the above but then bring the mixer down to path B, then output LR are one instrument and Send 1/2 are the other instrument.

Hello, I still don't own an HX stomp, but I would like to run my Katana 100 and  the HXstomp in stereo through headphones. Is it possible with this method? What would I need to do to have the Kat with its effects on one channel and the HX stomp on the other? Also, how many blocks would I have left for the HX sounds?
I love the sounds with dual amps and I actually love my Kat, don't want to get rid of it. I am thinking about running a kinda clear crunch from my Kat on one side of the headphones and a dirtier, gainier Helix amp on the other side...
If it's doable then I think I'll take the plunge on the HX stomp very soon...

Does anybody know if my previous question is possible? I'd really like to know and appreciate your help with this regard.

Worlds smallest EXP with toe switch for Helix? I gutted a Hotone Bass wah and converted it with parts I already had sitting around and it works great!

you'll also need a low profile momentary switch (DPDT or 3PDT with click), I think this is the one I had:
https://lovemyswitches.com/3pdt-momentary-foot-switch-low-profile-solder-lugs/
This switch in the wah is latching and won't work.

And a TRS jack, I only had a switched one on hand but it works just as well.

And also note that (as far as I know) this will only work with the Hotone Press models that have the EXP function since they have the ganged pot and the EXP pot is already 10k ohms so it's perfect for Helix. Then you just have to disconnect and remove all the other crap in there.

Then you just wire it like this:
- Switch pin 1 to sleeve.
- Switch pin two to ring.
(These may actually be reversed but it's working for me so I'm just going to go with it lol. Being normally open momentary I don't think polarity really matters since they only close the circuit when pressed anyways.)

- Pot pin 1 to tip.
- Pot pins 2 and 3 to sleeve. You can see I just soldered across both pins in the pic.

Use a TRS cable to HX EXP switch, program your functions on HX, and done. I had posted directions about how to toggle wah and vol using just a wah block and the level control of any other block but while it worked, I think I had the EXP 1 and 2 reversed since it defaulted to controlling the wah sweep first instead of the vol. If I have time I'll try to go back and figure out what I did to fix that.

(Pic added to this post for reference.)

It's just that the ROI is extremely poor, so it's not high on our list. Remember that HX Edit is a dumb editor—it just acts as a remote and reflects the settings of the hardware. The amount of work it would take to make HX Edit completely standalone is way bigger than you think, and the main advantage is really just "It'd be a bit more convenient to mess around and reorder presets—even though I can't hear them—without hooking up my Helix/HX hardware or using Helix Native." That's not a very big incentive for us to defer the hundreds of other cool things we could do.

New Mac USB Audio Driver for Helix / HX Stomp
https://line6.com/software/index.html

Helix Mac Driver 1.0.5 improves multichannel audio performance and adds support for HX Stomp. It supports the following sample rates: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, and 96 kHz.

IMPORTANT! Installing the Helix Mac Driver 1.0.5 precludes using Helix with the class-compliant OS X Core Audio driver.

Note that macOS High Sierra 10.13 has implemented a change to how drivers are accessed that may require your attention. If you cannot use your Line 6 device after installing this driver, please see this article: macOS High Sierra 10.13 Driver Installation Change

After installing the driver and restarting your computer:
1. Make sure Helix/Helix Rack is connected to a dedicated USB port on your Mac. Do not use any sort of USB hub.

2. From the Apple menu, select "€œSystem Preferences" and click the Sound icon.

3. Click the Output tab. Line 6 Helix should appear in the list of devices. Click "€œLine 6 Helix"€ (or "Line 6 Helix Rack" "Line 6 Helix LT" or "Line 6 HX Stomp").

4. Click the Input tab. Line 6 Helix should appear in the list of devices. Click "€œLine 6 Helix"€ (or "Line 6 Helix Rack" "Line 6 Helix LT" or "Line 6 HX Stomp").

5. Open your DAW. In the list of audio devices, you may see two items-€”Line 6 Helix and (Helix Audio). Choose "€œLine 6 Helix"€ (or "Line 6 Helix Rack" "Line 6 Helix LT" or "Line 6 HX Stomp") for both Input and Output.

If for whatever reason you want to uninstall the Helix Mac Driver:
1. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Extensions. Inside the Extensions folder, you should see an item named "L6Helix.kext."€ Drag this file to the trash.

2. Empty the trash and restart your computer. Helix will return to using the class-compliant OS X Core Audio driver.

Known Issues
- In rare occasions, loss of audio occurs after waking your computer from sleep
- Audio artifacts may occur while adjusting UI controls in several DAW applications

Compatible OS: Mac OS X, Mac OS Mavericks, Mac OS Yosemite, Mac OS El Capitan, macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra, macOS Mojave

The only thing I have to do is find the right sized "feet" to adhere to the back, as the whole thing actually rocks on the front of the BoxKing BK05 battery as is. Otherwise the fit is perfect. I was actually a little disappointed it wasn't a touch oversized, so I could wedge an old iPhone in the bottom (for stealthy MIDI Guitar/ SampleTank fun.) I might do a build based on a larger Pedaltrain riser, with said iPhone on the bottom and a mini-expression pedal on the top. Elegant AF. :aok

OK, I'm going to play guitar now. Honest.

Couple of questions:
1. When dialing in clean/mid-gain I'm noticing what sounds like digital clipping. If I hit a chord there's an unpleasant sort of crackle that stays with it. Can also be heard picking out single notes.

2. I have the mission expression pedal designed for the Kemper. Can't get it to work with the stomp. Is there something I'm missing or will it just not work?

I have it dialed in 99% to my kemper but the digital buzz is a bit of a nuisance.

bsd512 wrote>
I don't know about Question 2, but on 1, there are several things to check and try.

First - try a high cut on the cabinet. You might be hearing a bright dynamic mic up close to the cab which is going to be harsh. Try a 7-9kHz hi-cut on the cab block.

Second, double check each block and make sure the level hasn't been boosted too much to the point that it's clipping in the next block. General rule of thumb is turn off all blocks, then turn on each one, one-by-one, and verify that the output level is the same with the bock on vs the block off. That will guarantee no clipping at the output. I say general, because it's not uncommon to use a block in front of the amp and up the level a bit to add some boost to the front of the amp.

Third, double check the channel volume of the amp itself is not too high. That's essentially the level control of the amp block's output volume (doesn't affect tone, but increases the output level). Raising that too high can overdrive the next block after it.

Fourth, some of the delay models have a "Headroom" parameter. Increasing the headroom parameter on those delays will keep them from clipping when they otherwise would.

I may have missed a few things to look for, but all those are the usual suspects that lead to mysterious clipping.

1) Is there a way to assign MIDI to Bypass Blocks? It doesn't look like there is.

You CAN assign controllers to toggle parameter settings so that might be workaround (toggle Mix control instead of Bypass).
Yep... Hit the Page < & > buttons to go the Menu screen, and hit the Bypass Assign knob. Hit the the Page > button to go the second page of the Bypass Assign screen, and there you can select whatever MIDI CC you want to control the bypass state of the active block. In HX Edit, you can do it on the Bypass/Controller Assign tab.

2) Can you control the Tuner/Tap from MIDI?

phil_m wrote>

Yes, there are CCs associated with both of these. Although, you don't really need to use a CC for tap tempo with the Disaster Area Design controllers because they all send MIDI clock. So if you go to their tap mode and tap in a tempo, the Stomp will automatically sync to that tempo.
