All the Vocal Tools You Need, Right on Your Pedalboard
Filled with deep sound-shaping capabilities, the VE-500 is a professional vocal toolkit that lets you process your voice any way you like, from subtle sweetening to the dramatic, over-the-top effects heard on so many modern records. And with its newly enhanced harmony and pitch engine, you can easily expand your sound with real-time vocal harmonies and more.
The VE-500's stompbox configuration makes it simple to integrate with any pedalboard—just plug your guitar into the instrument input to drive the harmony, pitch, and vocoder functions, and then use the Thru output to feed an unprocessed signal to your other pedals. And with the VE-500's stereo XLR outputs, you're able to send your processed vocal sounds directly to a PA mixer, stage monitor, or recording device.

Automatic Multi-Part Vocal Harmony Driven via Guitar or MIDI
Are you short of good backing singers in your band? The VE-500 is the perfect solution, making it easy to elevate your songs with rich, ear-catching vocal harmonies. Its automatic harmony engine is powered by advanced BOSS processing that detects the chords and key you play with your guitar, generating smooth and natural two- and three-part harmonies in real time as you sing. And by working with the VE-500's different harmony modes, you're able to refine the harmonies as needed for songs that have more complex key structures. The harmony engine can alternately be driven via MIDI (through either the VE-500's MIDI or USB inputs), enabling you to generate pitch-perfect live harmonies with a MIDI keyboard or DAW-based backing tracks.

Vocal FX That Impress
The VE-500 contains wide-ranging effects with deep editing parameters for crafting nearly any vocal sound imaginable. In addition, highly flexible routing options are available for processing live and harmonized vocals together or separately. Use the Enhance section to polish your voice with essentials like compressor, de-esser, and EQ, then tap into the two dedicated Reverb/Delay sections for everything from subtle coloration to lush, expansive clouds of ambience. Four independent FX engines are available as well, and each contains an enormous selection of effects types. Spice things up with a little chorus, flanger, or tremolo, add some secondary reverb or delay, or take things over the top with distortion, radio voice, ring mod, slicer, filtering, and more—the sky's the limit!

Get Creative with the Built-in Vocoder
Another killer VE-500 feature is its powerful vocoder function, which is derived from BOSS's unique and innovative VO-1 Vocoder pedal. By vocalizing into the connected mic as you play, you can transform your guitar's tone with electronic voices and an array of all-new colors for modern music styles. It's even possible to replicate traditional talk box sounds, providing instant access to classic "talking lead guitar" tones without having to use a talk box rig and mouth tube.

Stay in Tune or Create Special Effects with Automatic Pitch Correction
The VE-500 also includes a dedicated pitch correction section, which is guided via guitar or MIDI just like the harmony function. You can employ it for transparent pitch stabilization, which is especially useful if you're not such a great singer but still need to contribute some lead and/or backing vocals to your band's sound. It's also possible to switch in alternate modes that provide the heavily effected sounds heard on modern hits, including hard pitch correction, electronic tonalities, and even robot-voice sounds.

Total Performance Control
With the VE-500's large display and panel knobs/buttons, it's simple to create and call up sounds. After you've dialed in the perfect setup, simply save it to one of 99 user patch locations for instant recall while performing. Editor/librarian software is available as well, allowing to tweak and organize sounds from your Mac or Windows computer. The three panel knobs can be assigned to favorite parameters, enabling on-the-go tweaks in the heat of the moment. Three integrated footswitches offer access to a multitude of functions, including patch selection, individual effects on/off, harmony and looper functions, and more. Expanded control is also possible with external footswitches, an expression pedal, or MIDI.

Classic Roland: they've quietly (and finally), updated the wave pedal modifier, so that it is now switchable, plus they've added an extra waveform (square wave).
Awesome: switchable & BPM synced LFO's!
If only they'd update the VG/GP and GT series with this.
This appears to be the first product to have this feature.

I wonder how this will compare to the TC-Helicon VoiceLive series. I have the VL3 and like it alot, but the footprint size is big and I don't use any of the guitar effects. If the Boss VE-500 would be like a VoiceLive 3 in a smaller box without guitar effects I would be very interested.

sixeight

Can't find a price yet, but as it's got the 500 number, price will be probably similar to the RV/MD/DD500...

Musicradar reckons "The VE-500 is available now for $499/£349/€419".

I think it will be as you have wished for.
Have you looked at the other VE range, the Boss VE-20 is quite feature packed in a small footprint.

The VE-20 was not quite what I was looking for. The VoiceLive 3 had all the features (guitar chord based harmonies, foot switches, Editor for computer - although third party, etc). It is just a little too big and I don't use the guitar modeling/effects section.

B&H is showing the VE-500 for $399 preorder.

This looks great and it has MIDI!!! If youre using a sequencer with midi vocal parts this is a must as you can do songs like Please Please Me by the beatles and have the midi note hold the single note harmony line while you sing the descending part. Ive been looking for a replacement for my Digitech Vocalist workstation EX and this maybe it.

how many vocal haromnies does this produce? My Digitech vocalist workstation will do 4 part harmonies plus my own voice for a total of five parts. Does the VE-500 do the same?

BOSS (Boss) / VE-500
"VE-500" is an outstanding vocal effecter expected to be released on September 15, 2018.

It is a vocal effecter for guitar vocals,
which is supposed to be used by being incorporated into the pedal board of the guitar.

As you can see the publicity PV, you can reproduce the vocal effectors that were lost after the recording you can listen to the CD in real time.
By incorporating BOSS proprietary high-performance DSP engine, it achieves professional quality sound quality, natural harmony, accurate pitch correction function.

Unlike ordinary vocal effecters, VE - 500 's coconut is amazing! It
has a function to "automatically analyze the code of the input guitar and generate harmony" as the place.

The traditional vocal effecter had to decide "singing KEY" before adding harmony.
If transposition takes place during playing, if it deviates from the set key, if you do not switch the patch, a harsh toneful harmony will be created.

By sending the guitar signal to the VE - 500, the VE - 500
will automatically analyze the guitar - playing code and automatically set the harmony key.
Conventional KEY setting is also possible, and HYBRID mode corresponding to both automatic analysis and KEY setting is also available.

Not only MIDI, which is indispensable when incorporating the pedalboard, librarian is also prepared for patch creation / editing with personal editor of PC by connecting to PC (Mac / Windows) via USB.

Like BOSS's GT-1000, DD-500, etc. AD and DA conversion are 32 bit specifications, so the
harmony produced by VE - 500 is high quality.

Other kinds of effects are substantial.

*  High quality Reverb Delay

*  Distortion · Radio Voice and Filter Sound

*  Penetrating effects such as wah, tremolo, and rotary

*  Robot · Voice and Talkbox · Sound

*  Like the VO-1 Vocoder vocoder function

*  Save maximum preset 99

*  Looper function capable of overdubbing (Recording time is 60 seconds (mono) / 30 seconds (stereo))

A vocoder is an effector derived from a synthesizer that can add a look like a singer singing in the human voice to the sound of a guitar.
When used in talk box mode, you can express your own voice by overlapping.

Effects unique to vocal effecters,
· ENHANCE to clarify the outline of sound
· PITCH CORRECT
effect to suppress pitch wandering are a little effect if you do not have something for themselves and you want to cheat properly
.

Of course, it is best to sing without cheating, but
it is strong that you can make corrections as a safe material when you have failed by any chance.

It is the same feeling that I want to reflect on a photograph with a beautiful face at SNOW of a smartphone application.

So I just spent a little bit flipping through the manuals and there's some really cool things not found on any other 500 series. First of all a built in compressor, how cool would that be on the md or dd? You could easily make something like the lo fi junky. This thing has a straight up freeze setting which seems more like the hex style freeze and not just holding a delay sound. In addition to all the other effects there's a granular delay which is something the dd500 does not have. Lastly, and the thing that has me most excited, is the looper. It's looks like an actual full featured looper unlike the one on the dd500. You can quantize it to a set tempo, you can set the number of times it plays back or set it to one shot, and a decay setting so the loop slowly fades. I'd really like to see boss update the dd500's looper with the one here, but who knows if that will happen.

level 2
RushofBlood52

tbh this actually seems amazing now

level 3
PantslessDan

Leave it to boss to market crazy powerful pedals in the blandest way possible

level 2
kidkolumbo

While you were in there did you see if you could have the looper on the instrument input but not the mic input?

level 3
PantslessDan

I did not. I'm unsure as the instrument connections are specifically labelled as "input" and "thru" so I don't know if you can send the guitar through any of the internal effects.

level 1
imregrettingthis

Whoever made that demo is super out of touch yea?

level 1
RushofBlood52

Vocal effects are pretty under-utilized IMO. Not that I personally do any vocals. Kinda surprised Boss went with this rather than a PS-500 or OD-500 or something.

level 2
LongDevil

Has Boss had very many vocal effects? It seems like TC has had a lot of that market with their Voice Live and Helicon pedals. Probably a good move to get into a market space that isn't as crowded. I haven't looked at the features yet, but I can imagine this thing harmonizes and would have a lot of features we'd expect in a PS-500 if they made one.

level 3
Griogair

VE-1 (echo), VE-2 (basic harmonizer), VE-20 (more fully featured harmonizer) and the VE-8 (multi effects) have been the vocal effects line up for a little while.

level 3
runwichi

Boss VE-8 for the acoustic side, I wonder if this would have a significant impact on those sales.

level 3
RushofBlood52

VE-20 and VO-1 are the only ones I know about.

level 1
LongDevil

MT-500 when?

level 2
jerryfzhang

Djentilizer.

level 1
RushofBlood52

thanks Boss Tuner app for the wonderful notification this morning

level 1
Gorillanate720

Still waiting on a MS-5...

level 2
BloodySteelMice

Or boss to improve the pitch algo on the MS-3 >.>

level 1
ChaChaMantaRay

Hmmm now that this is out maybe I can pick up a used VE-20 at a decent used price.

level 1
IBNYX

The video is god awful, of course, but this seems sick. I'm especially interested in it's ability to track midi notes, as well as just for having configurable chains.

level 1
jerryfzhang

OD-500 Please!

level 1
DSD-3

damn bruh u tryna get me to spend half a g

level 2
RushofBlood52

unironically yes

level 1
IBNYX

What I really want is a demo showing some Japanese House / MUNA style vocal effects going on

level 1
TheNightBench

All I need is a distortion pedal/delay pedal that won't feedback so hard that it splits the planet in half. Did Boss make one of those?

level 1
HopefulUtopian

$499. Yuck. But the options in here look pretty amazing, plus with all the 500 features. I'd love to hear some momentary vocoding and some of the internal LFO settings. I hope someone capable does some really cool demos of this.

level 2
imregrettingthis

damn $500 is nuts. It better have effects chaining options and a vocoder out of this world.

edit: 9 simultaneous effects, live pitch correction.. I don't want it but.. when it comes around used why not.

level 3
RushofBlood52

a vocoder out of this world

It says it has the VO-1 effects. Idk were those any good? I know it had some weird digital talk box but the vocoder sounded like a vocoder at least.

level 4
imregrettingthis

not sure. Is that the same one as the microkorg? I have only used the moog korg microkorg and ensoniq/emu vocoders.

I bet it is though.

level 4
joeribraams

I have a VO1 and IMO the sounds are sick, very smooth and articulate sounds, even the talkbox is cool if you use it more like it's own sound instead of comparing it to a real talkbox. Where it kinda falls flat are the routing options, IE sending the vocoder straight to FOH requires a bit of a workaround, you can't easily switch between normal and vocoded sound, etc. If this fixed those issues it'll be great.

level 1
monkeybread8212

You can do like 99% of this stuff with an OP-1 or Organelle, plus more.

level 2
tremolo3

Or pd, or a DAW.

level 3
monkeybread8212

Well yeah, of course, but I was speaking solely about hardware controllers. The Op1 and Organelle are essentially proprietary daw/PD controllers respectively anyway.

level 4
tremolo3

=]

level 2
RushofBlood52

Yeah, but you can't really step on an OP-1.

level 3
monkeybread8212

Not including the official first-party OPLAB, there are still a million and one peripherals to control the OP-1 and Organelle with your feet. But yeah, out of the box, you're right.

This looks good and I would have gotten one but it only does three part harmony and that was the deal breaker. Im still using my old Digitech Vocalist workstation EX. It does 4 parts plus your voice. Some day hopefully the next gen. will do what I need.

VG-88V2, GR-50, GR-55, 4 X VG-99s,2 X FC-300,  2 X GP-10 AXON AX 100 MKII, FISHMAN TRIPLE PLAY,MIDX-10, MIDX-20, AVID 11 RACK, BEHRINGER FCB 1010, LIVID GUITAR WING, ROLAND US-20, 3 X GUYATONE TO-2. MARSHALL BLUESBREAKER, SERBIAN ELIMINATOR AMP. GR-33.

papaGGAZ

I have recently purchased this, and have been "programming" it over the last 2 weeks.  I am about to use it live in performances.  I have used a digitech vocalist live 4 for over 10 years but the electronics are starting to wear down.

My question is...Has anyone heard mentionable differences in the Harmony - Method settings?  Scale1, Scale2, Chord1, Chord2
I play my guitar through the device and think chord1 or chord2 would be best, but I am still pretty green with the product.  Has anyone noticed what the differences are with these 4 parameters?

Thanks ahead of time.

BMapson

I'm in the market for a replacement for my VoiceLive 3.  I've used it for about 5 years, and I've had to treat is as a carton of eggs the whole time.  I need something a little more sturdy.  I also don't use the guitar features of the VL3 since I use GP-10 (and to a lesser extent the VG-99 and GR-55) for all my guitar needs.

I will revisit this thread after purchase.  It will likely be the VE-500.
