UPDATE HISTORY
[ Ver.3.00 ] APR 2019
Additional Functions
Control Modes (MEMORY, MANUAL, and PEDALBOARD) were added.
Please refer to the "GT-1000 Owner's Manual" for detailed information in the [ Owner's Manuals ].

MEMORY ( MEMORY Mode )
This mode is used to call up patches saved in the unit.

MANUAL ( MANUAL Mode )
This mode allows accessing functions assigned to the system or individual patches by using number switches [ 1 ] through [ 5 ].

PEDALBOARD ( PEDALBOARD Mode )
This mode allows use with the same feel as having Compact Effectors arranged on a pedalboard.
The respective switches are used to toggle the effects on and off.
The PEDALBOARD Mode has no concept of patches or memories. Edited values are saved without having to execute a write operation.
Bass support was added.
16 types of bass effects are now built in.
3 AIRD PREAMP types for bass have been added.
2 AIRD OUTPUT SELECT types for bass have been added.
5 SP TYPE types for bass have been added.
Please refer to the "GT-1000 Parameter Guide" for detailed information in the [ Owner's Manuals ].
Seven OUTPUT SELECT types made available as GT-1000 AIRD Output Select Library data are now built into the unit.
Together with 4 OUTPUT SELECT types that have been newly added, 11 types have been added.

FX all well known.

S Bend new?

Sound hold (freeze) is new to none VG units isnt it? You could actually reproduce my Escapism patch easy enough with the dividers - divider 1 to split off lead tone and divider 2 LPF/HPF for bass element/main chord tone  - mix thiss divide down to one then freeze on FX3 for held chords and finally mix back original divide for the crunch lead tone. Happy to program, Boss *ahem*

Forget that - manual says it doesn't work properly when 2 or more notes played simultaneously. So essentially monophonic. That's really poor. Competitors don't have this issue.

Sag control could be key in creating killer tones

I'm seeing quite a lot of VG99 similarities with the parameter options.

No Osc or synth stuff whatsoever = disapointing. That said....integrating a Key 9  or whatever via loop would give opportunity for stereo chorus delay verb on it's own discrete divided signal path so some potential for very complex sounds to be made up. the routing and channel path possibilities really give this thing some scope and will be main selling point I suspect.

I can't really find anything on the GT1000 that warrants a $1000 price. The more I read the manual the more disappointed I am becoming.

hmm and Roland/Boss who used to be the most innovative manufacturer with those all-in-one almost magical boxes.
Although being realistic, maybe we the guitarist have the mayor responsability, providing success to the companys who make those do-only-one-thing pedals, probably Boss thought, well if you want guitar synth purchase the specific pedal for it called SY300.

USER1-4 for impulse responses. Four IR's per patch would be great, but four IR's in total would be a bit of a challenge. But if Boss never planned the IR's in the first place, they probably never added the memory needed for storing the IR's.

PAH's explanation of GT-1000 operations appear to solve my hurdles

Look at the parameter guide (https://static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/GT-1000_parameter_eng02_W.pdf). Control functions on page 26, and assign settings on pg 27. For people new to Boss, the difference might not be obvious. Think of control functions as one setting for each specific switch. And think of assign settings as 16 generic settings where each one can be used with any switch or expression pedal to control just about any parameter.

If you're the type of person that picks a patch and then just wants to toggle individual things on and off, use the control functions and assigns to map footswitches 1 to 5 to toggle effects, tap tempo, turn on/off the tuner, whatever. If you leave Bank up/down as is, when you hit one of them 1 to 5 will temporarily revert back to patch select (flashing LEDs) until you press one of 1 to 5, at which point 1 to 5 will become whatever the newly selected patch has them configured as. Alternatively, you could change bank up/down to patch up/down to just directly go to the next/previous patch. Or you could even set bank up/down as with some other control function and assigns to do whatever, and just use a knob for changing patches. Whatever works best for YOU.

If you're the type that uses different patches for each different sound in a song, then leave 1 to 5 as patch selects and let the patches do the work.

If you want a hybrid, you could let 1 to 3 be patch selects and use control functions and assigns to make 4 and 5 do whatever.

Or some other combo. Again, whatever works for YOU, and it can be different on each patch if you want it to be.

It's different, not missing. Is it better or worse? I think it's better, but I would like to see a few more options for assign targets, and some double functions (e.g. tap temp/hold for tuner).

So, if i assign a control function to my CTL1 button, like a toggling some effect on and off, i could in addition use assign to assign some more functionality, or it's mutually exclusive? I don't get this redundancy, to me both functions allow similar assigns - both work "per path" and both have some same settings possible. Or its just - use control function for simple assignments and for something more complex - assign?

Thanks!

Boss Tone Studio is only an Editor / Librarian
Must actually own a GT-1000 to hear GT-1000 patches

Use BTS and set "CURNUM" to LOOPER REC/PLAY/DUB, and record up to 38 seconds of dry guitar , then as the Looper plays your guitar , use both hands to manipulate GT-1000 effects settings

Quote from: 12ozP, post: 26533913, member: 201788Thanks I will try this out.

I don't see 'CURNUM' in the parameter guide, and I don't remember seeing it while using the gt1000's interface.  But I did read about using it with the tuner.  I'm not clear how it works but I'll have to try it.

CURNUM is Not the only undocumented GT-1000 Boss Tone Studio "feature"

diving in with BTS in off line mode and checking all the available options  / drop down menus is only way to to learn all GT-1000 features how best to use GT-1000
P.S> ( we are all still learning) !
