Hello!
I decided I wasn't finished,
The updated download is in the first post.
Now it uses a Chebyshev LP instead of a band-pass->

The performance is ever so sweet, please try it again- and I would love feedback(pun noted)
Instructions:-
- Set gain first. 0db pre amp is multiplier x1. This is where my Audiobox sits. Echo Layla at consumer setting is x3. The fine is adjusted with the knob.
- Fine tune gate pots. This is the note on/off gate for each string.
- If you'd like to use velocity, now press Velocity switch. The edit boxes set min and max, and the pots on the string groups adjust upwards in velocity.
The figure sums the floor(min) value, so for more stable values, put min up and lower the pot(s). Velocity function works fine now in this build.
- Save a preset or project with your set up roughly in order and enjoy playing!

Other notes-
Mono: forces polyphonic playing into mono MIDI. This can still use more than one MIDI channel if you have set that in the string groups.
Bend: will bend strings in tone steps. It will sound terrible on plucks, but tones with consistent sustain sound and play real nice.
It trigs until the note reaches the 0-127 quantization, so anything with release or short attack will sound either out of tone (w/- release)
or have clicks(a plucky tone)

My 2SYN MIDI is for:-
Noodling and preset surfing
Composing
Scoring(bend mode off)
Live Performance

This project means a great deal to me, I have not written any programs that are so novel and rewarding.
Please feel free to alter and distribute it. If you would like to host it on your fileshare, I would appreciate it.
I want this binary to outlive me.

Stay tuned in!-- Nick(Phonics)

ps
-the unit is now samplerate independent, so try it at 96k if like
-Also I have a hack in the bend mode I need to fix. This means that it can hang a MIDI note once every 5 minutes or so.
If this happens, press Clear

Rock and Rock my boat, as long as you don't rock and rock my boat!hehe

Heya peeps,
I have written a proprietary synth in this format now,
called 2SYNth, here is the UI->

It's real simple in architecture.
I will add a mono mode and tuned fm in the next couple of weeks.

If you'd like to try it the d/l link in the first post has been updated.

I will make demos for both of these releases hopefully today.

Cheers and imbibe the sweet melodies

Heya,
I have updated again.
Download in first post.
Here are audio demos I recorded today->

Again an update.
They are available in the first post.
Here is an audio demo of the synth, this time with a clean square saw-
it is possible in this one to hear the distorsion(if any):

This time a more lead-type analog synth,
with some rhythmic chords->
edit-5/17, redid demo->

nix808

I recorded both guitar and the Cheetah, here's the mp3
with guitar on left channel and synth on right->

nix808

With the parallel guitar recording,
the latency is displayed in the .wav.
It is around 900 samples(@44.1k), which is 20ms
I had one lead from the sc coils jack, and one lead from the Cheetah

nix808

Here is some feedback I got on the parallel Cheetah and mag sc pickups-

"WOW!
That is really impressive. I wanted to hear how well the system tracked and it's great! You could do so much with that."

"Really super, I love it."

Check it yo hehe

I have updated again!
It now works better than all the audio demos.
I used a peaking biquad eq type filter to certainly play the highest fret.
All the strings now have the same response time- 56 ms for locked trig,
and 20ms for retrigging, both in MIDI.
I will carefully remake all the audio demos.
The hung note in bend mode seems to be fixed.
I have an idea of what I want to do with the logo.
I'm quite sure that it is working better than ever.
Enjoy 8D

The top half of the fretboard is screwy, sorry.
I like this filter formation though-
u can push it around in many ways.
The gain and q on the eq is hard to figure out what the correct figure should be.
So- another update soon.
Cheers

nix808

I fixed ver 1_8 pretty much, I think.
The new update is in the first post.
Cheers, nJoy

This looks pretty cool. I don't know if I have any gear that would work with it. I'd try it if I could.

I have a few 13-pin guitars, a few Roland VGs, and a Mac. No breakout box.

nix808

I want to do a port for Mac.
atm I am only Windows.
The VST Reaktor is probably the best way,
and my friend is good with Reaktor,
if I can get some help.

The breakout is $75, but hmmm also you need a soundcard with 6 ins.
A windows computer and a Boss GP-10 would do it too.

I will up new demos soon, check them out to see if you want to get some new gear.

It is cool IMO- it has matured nicely with this update in particular.
Thanks for popping by!

There is a way to try each string separately, if u have a Windows computer.
You can plug a mono guitar into each string separately at a different time on the VST,
and check out the tracking on each string one by one.

Hey,
New version up(see first post)!
I used basically the filter architecture I developed in the last build,
but tweaked it. I found out that it worked better using the peaking biquad eq with cut low,
more than boosting the high harmonics.
The active Cheby has no q, allowing no half-band distorsion.
This has helped.
It very occasionally sorta lips out and follows a harmonic, but it's so rare.

The MIDI conversion is now a lot more solid. I did as much as I could in Ruby code-
so there are no more note hangs I'm pretty sure after 2 or so hours playing.

Basically it's much better, like I say, the odd stray harmonic seems to be the only problem,
but that's like a tiny thing every 10 minutes.

I'll redo the demos, make videos and the logo and show pictures of my newish hex tele.

I hope you enjoy it as much as me!

New update.
I have tinkered with this for 10s of hours since last update.
I have ditched the note hold mentioned in the last post.
I'll try further with the switching mode(not bend/slide)..

However, it occurs to me that I cannot really deliver this product without including at least the EQ in the UI. If you want to tailor it to your hex pickup in ur guitar, you will need to alter the EQ. The peak hits the uppermost note(it's set for 21 frets), and the cut allows the top half of the fretboard to register.

edit- The last paragraph is now inapplicable, because this product is built for Roland GK3 alone now

Cheers- I'll work on demos- maybe a vid or 2 8D

The D/L is in the first post

Sorry for the false hopes in this project, if u r disappointed,
I seem to mistake my build for being 'it'.
I think I will be tweaking it all my life actually, prolly.
I believe in the fundamental process though, turning the individual string's signal into sine with filters.

Rock on!- n

nix808

So- I'm sorry, it seems I am wrong again, and I haven't nailed it in the latest release.
I am going in a better direction though for sure.
I am enjoying the unit now,
but it only is seemingly error free when flatpicking.
I need to lower the res on the notch so far, that it quashes a lot of the hf content.
With fingers, the tone will not track up-
but it is real nice with a .6 or .73 pick on the slide mode.
It is pretty right too on trigger mode with the pick.

I have discovered just in the last few days that the hp res is crucial.
The device requires pretty keen settings to get the balance right between harmonic flaws,
and the ability to reach up the fretboard. The hp res also dramatically affects this( along with lp,eq and notch).
I am not impressed with this fineness of setting- by rights I will have to set it only approximately I hope.

I'll post up the picking friendly version very soon, after thoroughly attempting to use GK3-
I have my ace Tele up atm with a Rubenstein PU.

So bear with me- to tell the truth I am loving this flatpicking version with the soft synths I write.
The flaws annoy me just as much as you- but this one doesn't cause me a headache and frustration.

I have now written this for Roland GK3.
New version in first post.
I found that the Roland's separation allowed the high notes to come through more clearly.
If someone with a Win computer and aGP-10 wanted to tell me how it goes,
I would really appreciate it.

This version should work for pick or fingers.

Cheers- njoy

edit- this is for 44.1k samplerate only, and the eq is set for 24 frets
edit2- The bend mode works sweet now, but trigging it with the switch is shady.
I had to get this ver up for sure, the last one was broke.
Anyway, play some synths with no release in 'Bend' mode to wail.
I'll work on the trig mode in the next few days.
Rock and Rock my boat, as long as you don't rock and rock my boat!hehe

nix808

Trig mode fixed,
the VSTfx is in the first post
Rock and Rock my boat, as long as you don't rock and rock my boat!hehe

nix808

updated again
The download is in the first post
I have refined it for the Roland GK3 further

-also I made it have 8 preset slots, doing which I found that recall was a little broke and fixed it

I am using the GK exclusively now, so it should be compatible out-of-the-box for a lot of you
I have been using a GK3 passively too, which has the same setting as 9V .13amps with the housing.
It seems to work real close to the same, but has an eighth to a quarter amplitude/volume.

Cheers
