Hello everybody,

I still have the old VG-88 - never used it with Midi before - just got some time to start understanding the Midi part and Vedit - fortunately its a Version 2 VG-88. I got the connection with Vedit, but I have no idea how to transfer the Midi patches (like soundderhelden) to the VG. When I follow the installation guide, playing the Midi File with Windows Media Player nothing seems to be sent to the VG-88 - display remaings at waiting....

any help welcome - happy new year to everybody, cheers,

Dominik

Read this VG-88 thread

More VG88 librarian patch load tools are here

AFAIK, VG88 patches are in sysex format

Thank you for your lighing speed answer. I read through the threads and installed both the organizer and librarian besides the Vedit. All work (if anyone has problems just start them with administrator rights in Windows 10) - and connect flawless to the VG-88.
Still my problem is that I cannot select mid file formats but only syx - and many patches are in mid format - thx for further help,

Afaik , all shared VG88 patches are in Sysex *.syx  format

*.Mid format is typical for  VG99 patches , which are not compatible with VG88

The patch is SoundsderHeldern ... and the description lists how to transfer the mid - still it does not work - maybe I should have posted this directly under SoundsderHelden to be more clear....
any help appreciated, best for 2019....

As the translated instructions that Elantric posted mention in 2), you need a sequencer to transfer the .mid file to the VG-88.
Elantric linked to a free SMF Player application that is no longer at that page... so I don't know if that is still available.
However, I have a .syx file of these sounds... and I really have forgotten how I came about it. I may have used a converter program???? I have no idea. It's been many years since I downloaded the original SoundsderHeldern package.
If you put this .syx file in your VEditor051/Patch folder, it should show up in the "Libraries" pane of VEditor 0.51 (it does in mine).
Then you should be able to download any patch to the VG-88.

;DGreat, thanks, that file definitely works. I have tried some sequencers, but I cannot transfer mid to the VG-88. Maybe it´s the ID, though from the little I know, it should not play a role in this case. But Vedit needed the correct ID (32) to connect with the vault.

I never even tried to use a sequencer... it sounded like a nightmare.  :P

Just for informational purposes the default MIDI ID on a device is alway MIDI ID 01. But if the SYEX file was saved with another MIDI ID the receiving device must be set to that MIDI ID for the device to recognize the file.

This was done so you could send SYEX files to multiple devices of the same make and model and keep them separate from each other, for example: You have 10 DX-7 keyboards (I know I am showing my age could be any MIDI device of the same make and model receiving MIDI) being sent MIDI on the same MIDI channel and you wanted to send SYSEX files that contain new presets to the keyboards for different sounds. If the 10 DX-7s have different MIDI ID numbers then only the DX-7 with the matching MIDI ID of the SYEX file sent will receive that new patch info even though they are all receiving MIDI on the same MIDI channel.

So if you think that a SYEX file should be recognized that is one thing that could keep it from working. But...MIDI ID was rarely used and if someone did this on purpose they were trying to make things unnecessarily hard for anyone else to use the SYEX file because you have no easy way of knowing what MIDI ID was used. Unless you have some coding skills and can examine the file's code you would only find out by trial and error.

Hope this helps, I only bring this up because I saw a question about MIDI ID number.
