Hi,

My first post to this forum.

I've tried the methods described in order to get my GR 55 to work again with the Floorboard Editor in Windows 10 but I get an error "A Problem may have occurred. To install the driver, please execute Uninstall.exe (located in the same folder as Setup.exe), and then execute Setup.exe once again."

I've tried the Uninstall / Install numerous times with no success and always the same error message.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to fix this issue or what I may be doing wrong?

It truly sucks that Roland has yet to release the proper drivers.

Just a reminder for VG-99 owners - Roland appears to have discontinued ongoing support for USB Driver updates for latest operating Systems. the latest Roland Windows 10 compatibility chart does not even mention the VG-99 or VB-99

I ran the Windows 8.1 driver installation hack on my Windows 10 machine (see https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=9763.msg113297#msg113297) and my PC is interfaced to my GP-10 once again! Follow the instructions and it works fine.

One additional thing to do:

If you run antivirus software that scans active processes (I use Kaspersky Internet Security) than TURN IT OFF before running the Disable Driver Signature Enforcement script. If you do not, your antivirus will most likely pick it up as a Trojan Horse, since the script is doing what malware does when it installs a malicious executable or driver.
Don't forget to turn your antivirus back on when you are finished.

Cheers...

I'll definitely set up a second boot drive on my Mac for El Capitan since my machine is reported to run better under the newOS but I absolutely require my VG-99 USB driver, editor and librarian to keep functioning there so I need to have a functioning Mavericks setup for sure.

I will test whether or not the VG-99 I/O works under ElCap.  I was lucky with Mavericks, I do not expect that luck to continue with El Cap but I have my fingers crossed.

I don't believe it! I did what neskop said and it worked.

I have posted this on another thread so i just thought i would mention it here as well (if nothing else it gets my post count up).

I have just updated Window7 to Windows 10 and then tried to load Boss Tone Studio but it said it couldn't find the drivers, so I thought I would just reload the drivers and I would be good to go, but no. As soon as the driver started loading you are asked to connect the USB and switch the GT100 on, I did that and it just sits there doing nothing. So I uninstalled and tried again but still the same.

I then saw neskop post so I thought I would give it a go, there are some minor differences as I am using a GT100 instead of a GT001, the file name is different ie RDIF1149.INF not RDIF1148.INF, but I did what he said and I then successfully loaded the drivers and I can now use Boss Tone Studio on Windows10.

Thank you neskop.

Thanks to Christoplast's post via Elantric ..I have now got my GT 100 all connected on Windows 10..Happy Days  !!!!Thanks for this great tip...

Windows 10 drivers now for GR-55 and GP-10.

Here is the Roland Windows 10 USB driver status page which lists Roland/Boss products expected to get Windows 10 support
http://www.boss.info/support/support_news/2849

But as announced earlier, Roland, ongoing VG-99 Windows USB driver updates for  VG-99 is not expected to occur -there will be no Windows 10 compatible Driver or VG-99 Librarian  - so if you use Windows and VG-99, stay with Win7, Win 8,  Win 8.1  - and do not upgrade to Windows 10

I may be wrong, but couldn't a person have a separate drive partition and run both windows 7 and 10 and just put the older, unsupported stuff in the 7 os?

OldGuitarDude

A multi-boot solution could work for a while, but when a manufacturer declares a product EOS or EOL most musicians I know will run the latest available OS version that still supports the legacy hardware for as long as possible. In the case of the VG-99 and Microsoft, that's Win8.1 which still has several years to go. But eventually......

That said, I have a friend who still gigs 3-6 times a week using an acoustic guitar and a Roland XP-50 workstation/sequencer with a floppy drive built-in. Midi sequence files are loaded from 3.5" floppies, and each disk stores a few songs on it. He carries a box of disks around with him to his gigs. Sometimes there's a "slight pause" between songs while the disk loads, but he still draws a crowd.

I think he has his lyrics chiseled on clay tablets, not sure.... This weekend I'm planning to show him my iPod.

FWIW - there are 3.5" Floppy to USB Thumb Drive adapters now

these can swap out with any 3.5" floppy drive and provide a path for using USB thumb drives to store MIDI files

Same with IDE hard drives, they are pin4pin compatible with Compact flash (CF Cards).
If you have an old multi track HDD recorder, you could replace the internal IDE HDD with a CF card mounted externally for easy removal to be read in a USB card reader.

Going to remove the 2 speed CD burner in my KORG D1600 and install one of these, the old hardware is great for mobile multi track live recording, but a PITA to mix down.

As for dual boot systems, I find them annoying, and you lose a large portion of your disk space. Which is critical when using a rather smallish SDD (compared to a regular HDD).
I'm sticking with Windows 7 until Win 10 is 1000% sorted out for drivers.

Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

OldGuitarDude

Thanks for the info on the alternative drives guys. I will pass it on to my friend. He really likes the XP-50 and it sounds incredible through a good FRFR system. I 've been saving a box of 3.5 disks for him, but a USB or CF alternative would be much better. It would likely shorten those "slight pauses" as well.

Elantric....Thanks for your post for GT-100 drivers for Windows 10.  I followed the steps and I'm back in business!

I just successfully installed VG-99 and SonicCell drivers in 64bit Win10 with Win8.1 drivers, by following the tricks in this thread:

Nima

Has anyone had luck with OS X 10.11 and the latest driver?  I installed it and once I plug my VG-99 in, I constantly get messages on my VG saying USB offline and then reconnects and repeat.  I even tried uninstalling every driver and software I have for the VG and re-installing and still getting the same results.  Any help would be appreciated.

mooncaine

Nima, did you ever solve your problem?

I'm holding off updating to El Capitan because of this issue, but don't know how much longer I can put it off. When I make the change, though, the VG-99 is on a short list of things to test immediately.

I'm so pleased that Roland wrote a driver for us, and hoping for the best for us all,

I got the El Capitan driver from here: http://www.roland.com/support/by_product/gr-55/updates_drivers/351201

It works great. Earlier versions DON'T work on El Cap.

aliensporebomb

Finally updated my machine to El Cap and the driver works fine.  Thank you Roland!
