Print one on A3 paper 297 x 420 millimeters (11.69 x 16.54 inches) in booklet print mode (2 x double sided pages per sheet),
most photocopiers will do that. and staple through the middle page.

Thanks to Elantric for his info on the GR 30, I'm looking for a hard copy for the GR 30 Manual if anyone has an extra. I have the pdf. They're ok if there is nothing else but I'd prefer one I can hold. I'm searching around on my own but I'm here. I know to keep returning to the usual suspects but does anyone know of some other places besides half.com for used manuals?

Wishful thinking ....

I just picked up a 33 thinking it an obvious upgrade with the eventuality plan of selling it for a 55.... From reading here, many seem would have me believe they aren't that obvious of upgrades... Is that the general consensus here? Should I be selling the 33 instead?

It is time to thin the herd a bit tho':  vg99, fc300, us20, gr30, gr33, godin lgxt, rr strat, (godin and 30 are currently craigslisted so please save me if i'm making the wrong move guys)

Does anyone know of a GR-30 editor for Mac? I last had one back in the OS9 days and it was great. I've seen a few references to MidiQuest, but that looks like overkill for what I need. Anything out there?

Thanks,
CJ

Run Parallels on OSX, with a virtual WinXP, then use the

GR-30 Editor for windows.

Ok, worth a try I guess. Any particular Windows editor you'd recommend?

Thanks,
CJ

I've got a midi out question for those more technical than me ;)

On the GR30 is there anyway of turning the bend transmit on and off for live use? This seems to be a systems function and not a patch function i.e. chromatic on in a patch has no effect on whether the GR30 transmits bend information...?

Is this correct? All I want to do is move between patches in Mainstage that are Chromatic (Pianos etc) and lead synths i.e. ones that use pitch bend without having to go into the systems menu on the GR30.

Many thanks in advance

that is on patch level, I always made chromatic patches for piano playing, that's why I am sure bout this.
Just turn the patch to chromatic: there will be no pitchbends send, as long as this program is active.

Nobulusprime

Thanks for the quick response :) That's great to know. So if a patch is not chromatic i.e. with bends, it transmits bend info and if it's chromatic it will revert to no bend data? I also have a GR1 where you definitely can't turn on chromatic on patch by patch basis.

WOW!!! That's a ton of info. I am an extreme newbie to Synth and the like. I recently acquired an NS Stick with a GK-2. I just bought a GR-30 (still awaiting it's arrival) and am looking forward to diving into the world of MIDI.

Hi Elantric

Am i correct in thinking that the Arpeggiator function doesn't allow you to move between octaves of notes with random up and down pitch patterns like a typical keyboard arpeggiator? Or is there a way to achieve this?

admin

Roland GR-30 Arpeggiator Editor patterns are user assignable

Best to consult the manual

Thanks but this doesn't make it clear if you are able to make it behave like a keyboard arpeggiator. This seems more like a user defined auto string picking pattern

If you have access to a genuine GR30 - i suggest explore the Arpeggiator hands on for its suitability for your needs.

Yes thanks. Any GR30 owners here able to confirm if it can do octave jumps like a typical arpeggiator?

The Arpeggiator records the order in which strings are played, rather than the
notes actually played. Therefore, the order in which the strings are played is
important but the actual note(s)played are not. The note(s) will be determined
by the fretting of the guitar during playback. If the strings played (or not
played) during the triggering of the arpeggio differ from those contained in
the arpeggio pattern, the GR-30 will logically substitute string based on its
built in internal algorithms. Use the following procedure to create an
arpeggiation:

1) Select a PATCH.
2) Use the EDIT/TARGET dial to select "ARPEGGIO/harmony."
3) Use the PARAMETER SELECT dial to select "[D]" ( A -TEMPO/h -remote).
4) Press EDIT/PLAY.
5) Press PEDAL 1 and the metronome will start. Each beep represents an
eighth-note location where events may entered.
6) Use the
  • or [-] buttons to select the number of event locations (up to
    32) for the arpeggio pattern.
    7) Press PEDAL 2 and a one measure count-in will began. The display will
indicate the count -in with negative numbers ( -4,-3, -2,-1.).
    8) After the count-in, begin playing the strings in time to the metronome
(one or more strings per beat).
    9) When you’ve finished playing, press PEDAL 1 to stop the recording. Strum
the guitar to check your arpeggio.
    10) Use the PARAMETER SELECT dial to select ‘‘ WRITE PATCH? " and press the

  • and [-] buttons simultaneously to write the arpeggio pattern into memory.[/i]

Hello, I recently picked up a GR-30 and I'm very happy with it. I was just wondering if it is safe to use a different power supply with it; will it be ok as long as I match the volts, amps, and polarity?

https://www.rolandus.com/assets/press_media_resources/ACAdapterGuide.pdf

The GA-30 draws 440mA from a 9VDC supply
Use

Roland Electronic Keyboard Power Supply (PSB-120)
Output is 9 volts / 0.5 amps / 4.5 watts.

What about connecting it to a multi-pedal power supply? Is a 9v 500mA connection good enough?

Is it possible to use a midi controller for cc64 (damper pedal) with local control on? One previous post seemed to suggest that this was possible, but if it is I cannot figure it out. Thank you!
