23 years after picking up a G-77 for peanuts, I finally completed the setup. I'll post more once I've played around with it...

Initial impressions!

This is a very old bit of kit and a bit on the wonky side. Tracking is actually not too bad, but note sustain is poor – notes cut off very quickly, even with the trim pots maxed out and the sensitivity at max. This isn't down the the G-77 – I've run this into a GR-55 via a BC-13, and there are no problems. The hold pedal does the trick though. The giveaway here though is when you're calibrating the trim pots – I don't even get a test tone unless they're maxed out.

Sound palette is... limited. I don't have a programmer so I'm fairly much stuck with the stock sounds unless I want to dive into the complexities of JX-era editing. Some sounds are quite nice, and the touch plates are a fun way to add vibrato.

And yes, the thing is huge and heavy! Not sure how much usage I'll get out of it to be honest. My GK-13 / GR-55 / VB-99 combos outstrip this in almost every way conceivable, but it's fun to finally have the full setup. I may be tempted to sell it on at some point, but I would be so reluctant to part with the G-77; it's just a fantastic bass.
