Dogmatic attachment to the supposed merits of a particular structure hinders the search for an appropriate structure.

What it is

GI20Editor is a software editor for the Roland GI-20 GK-MIDI guitar interface. Besides being the only alternative to program the device through a knob, a two digit display and a few buttons, GI20Editor can greatly enhance the guitar/synthesizer connection experienced through the GI-20.

Features

Clear and easy access to all the GI-20 parameters.

Save complete GI-20 setups as documents, for backup purposes and fast switching between different configurations.

Import and export GI-20 dump files.

Patch related copy, paste and swap commands.

Direct connection to a MIDI synthesizer.

MIDI remote control.

New in 2.0: on-the-fly substitution of GI-20 bank/program messages, to allow rapid testing of different sounds without the need of a "bulk load".

New in 2.0: string grouping options for faster editing.

New in 2.0: powerful "paste special" function to apply only selected changes, possibly extending them to all patches at once.

New in 2.0: optional MIDI system exclusive and bank/program change messages sent at patch selection, to properly setup the synthesizer.

New in 2.1: up to 8 user defined MIDI Control Change messages for each string/channel for each patch can be sent to the "synthesizer output" device when a patch is selected or in real time.
How it works

A comprehensive user manual is available.

The latest Mac OS X version is 2.1. It's a 32/64-bit Intel fat binary that runs on 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard) and later versions.
A DEMO version is available here. The demo version cannot save files or send data back to the GI-20 unit. In addition, MIDI output directed to synth stops after 15 minutes.

Dear Macintosh buyers, thank you! But if you like this application, please take the time to write a review in the Mac App Store. Good ratings help sales, and the sale of a reasonable number of copies justifies any further development.

The latest Windows version is 1.5. It's a 32-bit application that runs on XP, Vista and 7 and is distributed as shareware. This means that if you use this software, you are required to make a donation through the PayPal button below.
