Heres a thread to post general "What I don't understand?" about ANY Guitar, from any manufacturer.

Maybe its:

"Why do surf guitarists play Fender Jazzmasters? ( hint: the floating vibrato)

"Why do several big name guitarists play a guitar with only one bridge Pickup? ( hint: less string pull from unused neck PU = more sustain)

" Why do my heroes play a 5 watt amplifier in the studio instead of their marshall stack?" (hint, because more control, less bleed into the drum mikes, and good amp tone in the studio is all about proper mic placement on the speaker.)

Post your ""What I don't understand"  below!

Why do Steve Vai and Joe Satriani exclusively play Ibanez guitars? Are they better for stunt guitar?

Because in the late 1970's early 1980's, Chesbro ( the USA marketing company) had better Artist relations departments than Fender and Gibson - both were struggling to stay in business after guitar sales plummeted after the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, and Yamaha DX7  synth sales, and MIDI  ate into electric guitar sales - Add that there was a lot of "dead wood" in management at  Gibson and Fender at the time. ( both were sold '85-'86 to new owners)  Ibanez's attitude was fresh  - instead of simply handing a major new recording Artist  a custom color Les Paul, or Stratocaster;  Ibanez had unlimited budgets and asked each Artist "Let us build YOUR dream Guitar." and 3 months later they delivered exactly what the artist wanted.    I almost got a gig with Ibanez in 1986, but the wife at the time would not allow me to travel + I just landed my NASA/JPL gig. que sara sara

Elantric, you are, as always, wonderfully informative. Thanks for that.

Here's a really dumb one from me. Lets see any one of you clever ones can beat E to the punch on this one...

I have a Sennheiser e906 mic to record off my cab. It has a fancy looking e sign on one side that begs to face outwards so it can advertise in the photos. The other side says Front... Here comes the question... Which side should I point to the amp? I know the sides are not created equal. Thank you!!!

From what I can tell from the user's manual & clockface diagram, the e points to toward the amp.

Zipidy, Elantric, thanks for your posts! I really appreciate it. The manual is something I read 3 times already but didn't see a clear instruction on this. I'll continue searching on the net. Not to worry.

easiest test

Put on headphones, and talk into various sides of the Mic - you should hear distinct difference on each side of the mic.
