Hello all, Long time forum reader, first time poster.

I need help with using a MIDI USB footswitch with my BOSS GT-001 both connected through my computer via USB. I want to be able to change patches with the footswitch, the footswitch is both Program Change (PC) capable and Control Change (CC) capable, It works perfectly and it's recognized by all software and it works perfectly with all DAWs, Amplitube 4 and similar software. BOSS TONE STUDIO recognizes the device under the device menu, However I cannot use it to change PC or CC values, I've tried everything (I think) messing around with the menu options within the BOSS GT-001 unit itself and the BOSS TONE STUDIO SOFTWARE. So I'm a bit lost, I've read related forum posts but I've had no luck, the closest I've found is a response from gumtown saying the following:
"I don't have the GT-001 but know it's specs well, I have a GT-100. The GT-001 is very limited on live control, you have the FS-6 pedals, and the front panel has the 4 favourite patch selections, but really needs midi control to add an expression pedal and patch change pedals. The only way to do that (for lack of a generic midi port) is to use an interfacing computer via USB to connect external midi control."
The line that caught my eye on that response and some others which suggest something similar is "to use interfacing computer via USB to connect external midi control" How do I go about to do this? I want to change patches with my MIDI footswitch, any help will be greatly appreciated. I know there is a device called the MIDX-20 but I don't want to buy it if possible since it's a little on the expensive side and I don't even know if it will work with my footswitch, I already have a PC/Laptop and I want to avoid that expense. Thanks in advance!

effectively what you need is midi routing software to connect the midi output of the controller pedal to the midi input of the GT-001.

The operating system does not know to connect these devices together, so a software is required, like

Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

Or a USB Host hardware device to bypass the need for a computer, such as the Primova MIDX-20 made by Codesmart from on this Forum.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give your recommendations a shot! I'm kind of new to this MIDI thing, so it is greatly appreciated. I really plan to buy that device on the future to remove the need of my laptop but right now It's not an option (just bought a core PRS). I really appreciate the help! =)

I figure those would work also. I tried the suggestion gumtown provided (http://www.pcmus.com/Free-Midi-Software.htm) and it worked great. MIDI routing was the missing link needed for the use I wanted to give my footswitch, You learn something everyday I guess.  Thanks a lot guys!
