Today arrived the Gr-50,
the unit is like NEW, i'm really impressed about the tracking..
i hardly can hear any latence on E low string, there are no glitchs or other kind of problems, and i'm still using the Daddario 0.42 0.9 Nickel!
On Gr-50 i have some cool sounds expecially strings pads and Fm which i would like to transfer to a card, because i don't know if these are the original patches, anyway i download the Pn-gr50-01 and Pn-gr50-02 cards and other card from D10 D20 D110 and i would like to experiment.
I read about a latency, somthing like 40 ms, i have to admit that i used the internal sounds and no external expander or Vst.

In past time i had Gr33, and was hard to control it but had great sounds.
The Axon Ax Mk II  was the most quickly and "accurate" but it had many glitches. When i bought the Axon, new, before i had a problem witht he tuner, it was out of tuner than my guitar. There was nothing to do untill i opened up the Axon and pushed the sound card inside the slot, it was installed inside no properly.
The GI10 was better in term of glitches but i could hear the latency on the E low string.

Today before to try the Gr-50 i found and bought an Axon Ax 100 Blue Chip with an sound card,
reason why i bought it is because it has a mono input which my old Ax 100 MkII didn't had.

Does somebody had the same experience with Gr-50 in terms of tracking, less glitch, that works better then other Midi Converters?

Hi,

I just picked up a GR-50 as well.

Where can you download the Pn-gr50-01 and Pn-gr50-02 data?

Thanks,
Steve

Fendric, please
can you confirm that GR-50 can have different tuning separated for each string?

Good morning all of you, midi and vg guitar freaks !
I just read what you wrote about the gr50 and i ABSOLUTLY AGREE !
i bought mine the same year it was launched in the market and after learning how to edit and configure the unit, i really really really enjoyed that new landscape of creativity. Of course, one has to be more technicaly precise and lower strings have a little more delay but PLEASE....FOLLOW MY GOOD ADVICE:
IF YOU PLAN , LIKE ME, TO USE YOUR GUITAR JUST LIKE A MIDI CONTROLLER (AND FORGET ABOUT HIS ELECTRIC PICKUPS AND REAL GUITAR SOUND) YOU SHOULD CHANGE E, A, D STRINGS TO E, A, D AN OCTAVE UP AND AFTER, RETUNE TO REAL OCTAVE INTO GR50 UNIT. YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME DELAY THAT G, B, E HIGHER STRINGS WITHOUT TOO MANY GLITCHES OR BAD NOTE RECOGNITION.
I did this for years until i met john mclaughling in madrid after a concert and he told me about the axon.
So.....i bought one and was at first DECEIVED BY THE RESPONSE. Tracking and glitches were much worse than gr50 plus the axon editor parameters for guitar config  were and still are, really poor compared to gr50.
I own 2 vg99 just for virtual thing but not for midi. Roland didn t pay attention to midi conversion and compared, again to gr50, vg s midi tracks like a bad toy.
Recently, i plugged my semi acoustic godin nylon strings with lr baggs piezos into the axon and response was really bad.
Many glitches, double notes. I tried my best to configure the unit with th editor but the lack of parameters options makes it really difficult, almost impossible.
I didn t try yet with my steel strings  klein headless gk3 equiped so my question would be if any of you, had that problem using nylon strings piezo saddles midi guitar with the axon, compared to steel strings gk3 hex pickup.
BTW, i plugged the godin in gr50 and the results were WAY BETTER.
So, my conclusion again is i completly agree with you and may give a little more chance to axon before kicking it by the window !
(I don t work for ROLAND or was fired from TERRATEC.... :D)

Let me know your opinion, advice or whatever....thanx

Ive had my GR-50 since they were new. Its still in the rack. I also have an Axon AX 100 MKII and a fishman Triple Play. I find the axon really glitchy for chord stuff,  but, it does quicker tracking on the lower strings which is why I still use it for tracking bass parts and other single note parts. The Gr 50 is les glitchy than the axon for doing chord parts and the like but the latency is worse. The Fishman works well for both but Ive put it in the closet until I can build the converter which will allow me to use a GK pickup to trigger it. Id like to be able to use one guitar for all my needs.
Theres people that can do wonders with the Axon and it tracks perfectly for them. Im not one of those players, so I have to use whatever I can get to work for me. The GR 50s only drawback for me is the latency. I still use all my guitar to midi stuff. At the end of the day, its what works for your playing style.

It's one of my main tools both live and in the studio, so I can confirm you can tune each string separately.

Mine tracks perfectly, but I'm not Satriani (never wanted to be).

It can be edited using Patch Base editor for Roland D-110, as the architecture is pretty much the same. Some features doesn't work, but it's very usable, and much better than dealing with the tiny screen and the zillions of submenus.
