Its only an Alpha version - and not finalized.

(owing to the fact there a limited numbers of GR-20 users )

Further development on the GR-20 editor was ceased, due to the GR-20 firmware being not very co-operative with midi system exclusive data requests.
Older Roland devices, including the GR-20, do not support realtime bi-directional sysx data transfer, instead only support "bulk dump" mode as the only means to extract data from the device.
So the GR-20 does support real-time patch data/parameter change from the editor, but the editor can not first retrieve data easily from the GR-20 to 'know' where the initial settings are at.

Secondly, the GR-20 user interface is so basic and easy to use, an editor is quite pointless, except the editor lists all the synth tone sounds by name, making tone selection easier.

Is there a way I can access the synth sounds another way?

Only the genuine GR-20 hardware can deliver GR-20 sounds

hi, I installed today the editor (mainly for organising my user patches, hoping for a rename option & secret settings) but I have no idea how to connect the gr20 with the pc, since it has no usb slot :) i tried midi through the roland tr8 used as a soundcard but couldn't get any connection between the editor and the roland unit.

the editor seems very nice but i am curious if you can rearrange the order of the presets & user patches / rename user patches? and also assign different sounds for a specific patch (let's say piano + drums) i couldn't test this offline

seems like i need something like this magic box

I no longer have any documentation or info, or the editor source code, work ceased on this 14 years ago.

The GR-20 is very limited in functions, and is very much just a Rompler player with little adjustment.
The patches within the GR-20 can not be named, and only patch files saved to disk can be named.

Is it possible to change patches on the GR-20 via external midi controller ???

Yes, it only requires a midi cable into the GR-20 midi in port.
Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.

Thanks Gumtown!!.....I have a Valeton GP-200, which I would like to use as a MIDI controller, to control the GR-20, to just change patches only on the GR-20....how should I go about it.....???....sorry for my ignorance with anything MIDI...... ::)

gumtown

I don't know much about the Valeton GP-200, but try plugging a midi cable from its midi out into the GP-20 midi in.

When you change patch on the Valeton, does the GR-20 follow the patch change (1~99) ?

The midi channel setting of both the GP-100 and GR-20 need to match (channel 1 is good), although the GP-200 can do OMNI mode too which is 'all channels'.
Open the GP-200 user manual to page "7" which explains how to assign a midi control to one of the foot switch's,
control change (cc#) are the first 127 options, then the last option is Program Change (pc#) which is what you need to select one of the 99 GR-20 patches,
select channel number, then patch number.
