GK-3 Divided Pickup

The GK-3 is a slim, hexaphonic pickup designed to fit on virtually any guitar. It is constructed of a durable material that is well-suited for road use.

Divided pickup compatible with all Roland Virtual Guitar processors and Guitar Synthesizers: VG-99, VB-99, VG-88, VG-8, GR-33, GR-20, GI-20, and GI-10 , etc.
3-position switching between synth, natural Stick or mix of both.
Mounts in special channel just above the bridge.
The customized GK-3 pickup is height adjustable and set very close to the strings for optimum performance. It is 3/8" wide by 1/4" deep and fits into a small channel across the strings near the bridge. It is transparent and polished, with the tiny individual pickup coils clearly visible in a jewel like green and bronze array.

The preamp for this divided pickup is triangular in shape, approximately 3" by 3" by 1 1/4" thick, and is secured to the bass side of the instrument just below the Stick pickup housing assembly with preamp knobs and switches in line of sight of the player.

This modified GK-3 MIDI pickup/preamp unit can be purchased alone in case you already own compatible Roland gear and wish to install the pickup yourself. We'll charge an additional installation fee to install it here at Stick Enterprises. Both the five and six string Roland custom pickups and their installation are priced the same and are backed by warranty. They work well for any tuning on ten or twelve stringed Stick instruments, melody and/or bass sides.

If used on the bass strings, pitch detection remains accurate down to the lowest "E", but with a noticable delay in triggering as you get down to the lower notes in the bass register.

Also, dual Roland MIDI pickups can be installed under all 10 or 12 strings, requiring the use of two Roland guitar MIDI interface units.

The 6-coil pickup can also be used for the 7+5 Grand Stick model, with pickups underlying the six highest melody strings. The tiny coils conform to Stick string spacing and are potted in a slim rectangular mold.

See our price list for cost details.

We also offer the entire line of Roland MIDI guitar products complete with a 16-foot long cable that extends from MIDI pickup to encoder/synthesizer unit. These units can be purchased separately or together with the custom "Grid" pickup/preamp unit installed, height adjusted and play-tested. We recommend the following products as especially compatible with The Stick:

GR-20 Guitar Synthesizer
VG-99 V-Guitar System
GI-20 GK-MIDI Interface
Besides the convenient user programming at the panel of these MIDI units, there are some noticeable improvements over our earlier Grid system. Sustained notes are longer. Volume dynamics are easier to control by finger velocity. Pitch bends and vibratos are more accurately tracked and from a lower "threshold" of pitch variation, allowing more subtle and authentic expression to your playing. And finally, you can bend whole chords, including single and selected notes within the chord. Only the notes you physically bend will bend in pitch.

It's nice to have that third output on The Stick, either for "orchestral" accompaniment to the natural strings, or as a lead voice in its own right. If you'd like more information or if you have any questions, please give us a call at 818/884-2001, or send an e-mail message to: stick@earthlink.net
