Title: Is SE better than LE?
Post by: black_bobble on April 29, 2012, 10:18:45 AM
I've got a Tonelab LE and am extremely happy with it. I was wondering if any LE owner tried the SE and could tell me if it's worth getting?

I own both

Only advantage I see for LE is the final EQ block.

The SE seems more complete to me with its rapid no gap tone A/B on every preset. Remember both work well as MIDi controllers using the Editors to map MIDI CC # controls to each floor switch

I would pass on the ST  - its a cut down version.

The flagship remains the SE   - IMHO

I bought an ST for my son who's learning guitar.  Not bad for that purpose, but it's not quite a stage-ready tool.  I haven't tried either the SE or LE versions; my benchmark would be the ADA MP series - is it comparable?

IMHO  the Tonelabs sound very close to each other.

So imagine the tones you have now, but in a form factor that provide more user access for what you need at live gigs. The Tonelab SE tops this classification, as every patch has A and B tones which can be accessed with no mutes or gaps in the sound.

Thanks for the info, and twice!

1.
I have a Tonelab (desktop) upcoming, but - apart from the obvious added things/FX/models - I was curious as well if by not going for the SE or LE I'd been missing out on sound quality as well. Not so, based on your info, thanks.    (I intend to control the Tonelab desktop by MIDI)

2.
Was curious to the reason for the A/B switching possibility of the SE, while simply switching to another patch would have accomplished the same.
As I understand now, for some reason A <-> B is a gapless transition, while patch-to-patch can have soundgaps?

Thanks
