Really, I'm just some guy who posts here. But I would love to know the following from all of you V-users:
1. What style(s) of music do you play?
2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)
3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
5. How technically complex is your live setup?
6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
7. How often do you perform live?

This would be great information for us to share. I'll go first.
1. Ambient, jazz, blues, mixed with complex multiple influences from wherever and whatever moves me.
2. Mostly home lately. However, have played weddings and done studio work.
3. Weddings are paid, studio work always pays hourly wages or by project but is sporadic.
4. Gigs come to me due to my own efforts or referrals. I make my living primarily as a business consultant and often bundle in my audio/video work as part of a package deal. I also produce webinars and live broadcasts.
5. I try to keep it as simple as absolutely possible live. This can get as basic as a nice guitar with a battery amp for a wedding, no VG.
6. Audience reactions vary widely with Vguitar, from very positive to oblivious to suspicion or even disdain for not being "authentic", whatever that is.
7. Live is presently very infrequent, although I intend to ramp back up.

Rhcole

So far, 100% of responses play ambient, blues, and jazz, get gigs for themselves, and get mixed reactions from audiences for V-guitar setups!

Nothing like a survey to fill in the information gaps...

Quote1. What style(s) of music do you play?
Jazz (mostly standards), Soul, Funk, Pop, Rock

Quote2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)
Bars/clubs, weddings, birthday parties, and corporate events.

Quote3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
Yes, the band charges a fee, I get paid as a sub-contractor. Sometimes we do a profit share arrangement with venues (i.e. taking a percentage of bar total after a certain margin), but this is always after a base fee.

Quote4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
Band leader deals with that, I just show up to play. I can tell you that we book most of our own gigs, and that most of our wedding business comes from a single regular bar gig we have (people see us there and book us).

Quote5. How technically complex is your live setup?
I'd think about middle of the road.  One (custom built) guitar, (lately only occasionally) into a VG-99, then into an Axe-FX II that's controlled by an MFC-101 floorboard, then out to the PA.  I use in-ears for monitoring.

Quote6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
Sometimes guitarists are interested, although these days most are more impressed by the Axe-FX II.  Mostly positive comments, the only negative comments I get are from people who have a blind allegiance to Fender/Gibson/Put-Your-Favourite-Guitar-Brand-Here and wonder why I'm not playing one of them.

Quote7. How often do you perform live?
About once a week.

Not complicated, Fender Jazz V bass/GK3B > Tech21 Vt-Bass pedal > GR-55 (with loop mod) - L/Mono out >

GR-55 R out > PA/Desk/IEM.

6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
No. A few types of synth on some songs and a few samples with the GR-55 player,
one person did ask once "do you all play to pre-recorded tracks?" i was a little offended by that,
but could have meant that we sound just like the original songs.

datsunrobbie

1. What style(s) of music do you play?
mostly oldies/classic rock covers, surf, blues

2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)

   n/a

5. How technically complex is your live setup?
   last few times out gk-equipped strat -> GR-55 -> ZT Lunchbox/house PA

6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
audience at open-mic is largely unaware, other musicians puzzled at first.
I'm typically filling in chords with a B3 patch that a keyboard player
would be playing if there was one, or adding strings or a 12-string guitar to a ballad,
or the piano part in Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll". Little things that nobody misses
until they notice that somebody is playing them, or stuff like the little flute riff
at the start of "Can't You See" that gets skipped over at an open-mic. I've had
several instances where I set up a patch and hand over the guitar to a better guitarist
and let them have a turn.

Really, I'm just some guy who posts here. But I would love to know the following from all of you V-users:

Quote1. What style(s) of music do you play?
Hard rock, heavy metal (for personal fun).  Classic rock, modern pop, Motown (in a "house" band for work)

Quote2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)
I play the heavy stuff at home, but the gov't organization I contract for has a "house band" that plays events in our building several times a year (our first gig was the "cafeteria grand opening!").  That band plays classic rock, Motown, modern pop music, 80's songs, etc.

Quote3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
100% free

Quote4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
We're sometimes asked by various organizations to play, other times, if we hear about an event where we think we might fit in, we'll reach out and offer up our services.

Quote5. How technically complex is your live setup?
Home-built LP-style 13-Pin guitar into a VGA-7 amp.  External EV-5 style vol pedal...and that's about it.  Guitar has buttons on it to change patches between songs.

Quote6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
No, they're not.

Quote7. How often do you perform live?
5-6 gigs a year but we rehearse almost every week.

Really, I'm just some guy who posts here. But I would love to know the following from all of you V-users:
1. What style(s) of music do you play?
    New Age/Instrumental, and Singer Songwriter
2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)
at home, post to reverbnation, sometimes with just acoustic sitting outside at the pool or whatever. Play in church on and off, but not presently involved
3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
    Nahh
4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
   don't bother with gigging
5. How technically complex is your live setup?
I've used GR-55 as a stompbox to the PA at church, and it worked very well. I could EQ and so on as needed because the sound guys were not always with it. If I ever play that live V-guitar-in-cafe gig, it would not require more than my Roland KC keyboard amp.
6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
Friends came up to me after church the few times I played a bass model, and looked at me in a confused way and asked if I was playing a bass or a guitar. They were OK with it but evidently thought it was weird. The band leader was too weirded out to even let me play pads.

Toff.

Can't believe I missed this thread.
Sorry for the delayed response.

1. What style(s) of music do you play?
Jazz, Latin & World.

2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)
Music Festivals, restaurants, weddings/functions and residency in clubs.

3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
Wages.

4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
- Agent, web traffic and referrals for functions gigs & festivals.
- Self-promotion for restaurant/bar gigs.

5. How technically complex is your live setup?
Relies heavily on the gear for guitar (GR-55 + GR-20) & vocals (VoiceLive 3 + Vocalist Live 5), plus own digital PA most of the time.

6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
Not at all. Mostly because the guitar looks very "traditional" and I also use a classical spanish one.

But I often get asked how I do it or "where the invisible musicians are". This led me to create a page about that on our website and brochures/leaflets.
Most people just assume I use backing tracks, to a point I now explain it between songs.

Also while on a break, I get members of the audience to come look closer at my pedal case, to figure out what I use.

7. How often do you perform live?
2 to 3 times a week on average.

Only saw this thread now. Sorry.

1. What style(s) of music do you play?
Classic rock, blues, oldies

2. Where do you play it?
Home, oranized events (charity & paying), company events with musican friends at work

3. Do you get paid to do this?
Some gigs yes. Charity no. Employer event gigs is either a gift card/time off combo

4. How do you get your gigs?
Circle of friends, book a few myself. Office gigs are requested by my senior manager.. mostly summer BBQ and holiday season gigs in November/December ( 5 gigs across 3 shifts in a single day..whew!)

5. How technically complex is your live setup?
GR-55 + spare, Strat GC1 + spare GK3 Strat, Roland Aira VT3 for vocal effect on some tunes, personal PA (Yamaha mixer & Peavey PV10 speakers), Shure mike
(With a redundant setup, guess it shows I've had a few "events" in my life. )

6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
Mostly friends and musicians only. As I am new to the synth world, I have only done about 3 live gigs.

7. How often do you perform live?
Varies but average once a month

DF400

1. What style(s) of music do you play?
Quite a variety, but mostly funk, classic rock, disco (i know, but fun with the GR55), and 80's
2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)
Festivals, parties, occasionally bars, and lots of fund raisers
3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
Nope, we do a lot of charity stuff and fund raisers
4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
Mostly word of mouth, but I do some reaching out for charities that I like
5. How technically complex is your live setup?
It used to be ridiculous, lots of gear ranging from 100 watt stack (Splawn), to the AxeFX Ultra. I have fallen back to gigging with just the GR-55. It covers all the material well. While not nearly as good as a tube amp or the AxeFX, it's a winner for gigging insomuch as it requires one cable and a DI box.
6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
Occasionally music buff will ask, but generally people don't car as long as it songs good.
7. How often do you perform live?
We used to perform (gig) quite regularly, but my recent move has put a damper on the bookings. That said, we play about 4 times a year for large crowds (2000+).

giffenf

1. What style(s) of music do you play?
Both kinds:  Country AND Western  ;D

2. Where do you play it? (Home, studio, church, bars, street corners, wineries, etc.)
Clubs, bars, even a supermarket a couple of months ago.

3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
Yes, wages, tips, and other compensation (food, drinks, more drinks)

4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
Two C&W bands, the leader of each band books the gigs, either, like others, through cold-calling or by requests from people who see us.

5. How technically complex is your live setup?
I have two rigs, one I call the "analog" rig that has a GR-55 and a bunch of analog pedals on a Pedaltrain Pro; sounds great, but is kinda big for most stages.  Given enough stage real estate, it's worth it to me to lug that bad boy around because I think it sounds better.  The other, is the "digital" rig, a VG-99 and FC-300 with a 6-button stomp switch "accessory" I built to turn the common effects like OD, delay, chorus, etc. on and off when playing through the guitar's mag pickups.  Both go into a Quilter MicroPro 200/8, and an extension cabinet if needed, or into the board from the Quilter's XLR direct out, which sounds pretty nice. I have a few different 13-pin guitars, but it's usually a Reverend Eastsider S with a GK-3 slapped on it.  I could stay analog and bring multiple guitars, one for each tuning, but I just don't want to.  I like "stupid guitar tricks" as much as anyone.  Maybe a little more, actually.

6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
Guitar players usually, who wonder how I get an acoustic sound out of a Tele, or how I can switch tunings from standard to C#, to Eb, and back, or from standard to Drop-D and back numerous times over the course of a song.  Or they want to know how I get so much sound out of such a little amp.

7. How often do you perform live?
Once or twice a week.

4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
    Completely self booked

5. How technically complex is your live setup?
Relatively simple for a VG setup - Real & Virtual Electric & Virtual Acoustic guitars played via either a JTV into a multi-FX (HD500X) or GK equipped electric guitar into GP-10 and HD500X (Parallel) all into a small tube amp and FRFR speaker.

6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
Audiences are mostly clueless but really like the sounds I get. Looks of bewilderment when I play virtual acoustic instruments that can't be located on stage.

7. How often do you perform live?
Only every couple months an average, but more frequently in summer.

    Currently home studio and rehearsals.

3. Do you get paid to do this? Tips, wages, percentage of the door, etc.?
Nope - mostly charity, fund-raisers and special events.

4. How do you get your gigs? Book them yourself, call up clubs, have an agent, referrals, what?
Combination of agent, referrals and self.

5. How technically complex is your live setup?
At home studio, fairly complex - I use any combination of the following: an AxeFx, GR-55, GP-10, Splawn QuickRod, Fender HotRod Deluxe. However, my typical live setup up is very simple: Godin LGXT -> GR-55 -> DI Box (Radial ProD2)-> FOH. I have songs/sets in succession and it works great.

6. Are your audiences aware of your V-guitar setup? How do they react?
No, with the exception of a few musicians.

7. How often do you perform live?
I used to perform every two weeks or so, but moved and have not looked to put together or join another band.
