I'm making significant progress with the SY-300, but I don't know if the manual says if I can use the BOSS FS-6 or FS-7 pedals to
bank up and down between patches, so I can use the CTL 2 and CTL 3 buttons for other effects.  Has anyone tried this yet?

Thanks!

Yes !!  you can use either, and will free up the CTL1 and CTL2 for other functions.

Another option is to keep the CTL 1/2 patch changes and use an external EXP pedal for tone/parameter mixing.

Yes, BUT...
When I reprogrammed for bank switches on 4 and 5, I lost the ability to press and hold for rapid changes. Couldn't give that up.

Wasn't using the Boss switches, though.

Using the FS-7 you can program the SY300 to control patch changes.  Holding the button down does give you the ability to rapidly scroll up and down the patches.

FYI: the documentation in the SY300 is not quite right.  You can use a TRS-TRS cable from the SY300 to the FS-7 plugged into the B input (also labeled A+B) to use both switches.
