Title: Gk3 kit install wiring to guitar audio jack
Post by: Brian349 on August 21, 2017, 09:42:50 AM
Hi. I hav installed a Gk3 kit to a USA fender Strat with S1 pick up switch.
All works bar one thing & that's the toggle switch position gk3 only. There is still audio present at the guitar Jack output from the guitar pick ups. As according to gk3 wiring diagram u do not remove original guitar wiring to the audio jack there is always going to be audio there right??? I assumed toggle switch would be wired to switch off guitar pick up audio in the gk only position. Or am I reading diagram wrong? B

The GK-3 three way switch does not mute the normal guitar output on the 1/4" jack

Instead it delivers a control voltage to the GK processor which manages the switching for the currently selected pickup source position for signals on the GK 13 pin cable

That is so your regular guitar can be used independent of the GK system.
If you don't use a switching jack as shown, the GK only switch position will attenuate the normal guitar signal quite a bit (dragging the signal down through the 12k resistor).
