Hi friends, I have a question about the katana head. Is there any risk of damaging the internal speaker if the power control is set to 50w or 100w and no cabinet is connected to the head?

No risk because there is a separate internal power amp  - a feature exclusive to the Katana Head

Katana Head Internal 5" speaker is powered by a lower wattage power amp that also scales with the three available POWER Modes

MAIN SPEAKER OUT Watts__vs __Katana Head INTERNAL SPEAKER Watts

Power setting: 0.5 watt = 0.15 watt delivered to Internal Speaker
Power setting: 50 watt = 15 watt delivered to Internal Speaker
Power setting: 100 watt = 30 watt delivered to Internal Speaker

Mine was blown - surprised that it happened. Repairer thought it might have been a bad batch.
Took a while to get a replacement.

CAUTION - If ANY Speaker (+) wire or (-) wire touch each other - or Chassis ground while powered ON -  - you fry the Katana Power amp

( BTW - this is true for ANY Solid State Power Amp, and many Tube Power Amps too.
