I bought a Roland GR-55 about a month ago, and I've been struggling with the typical steep learning curve of most Roland stuff. I'm using it with a Godin XTSA. What I'm stuck on is getting the snyth/mix/guitar switch to work properly. I've spent hours reading about this problem and I've tried all the solutions I can find with no success.

I've tested it on the patches with the normal PU sounds enabled, and I do get the normal mag and piezo sounds. I've tried user patches and enabling the normal pickups. I've changed the volume knob to Tone Volume and tried turning off the normal pickup sounds. What I can get is the synth sounds on the synth setting, a mix of synth and normal pickups on the mix setting, and absolutely nothing on the guitar setting.

I also can't get anything at all out of the guitar out jack with anything I've tried. I've toyed with the idea of trying to install a 1/4" guitar input, but wanted to exhaust the other options first. While I'd really like to use the modeling sounds in the GR-55 and not need another effects pedal, I need a clean mag pickup sound to run into my TC Helicon vocal processor for harmonies, and then preferably back into the GR. If I could get the other things working I'd feel better modifying it. I could use a separate cable through the TCH if I had a 1/4" input but I'd really like to avoid that if possible.

I've read through every thread I can find on this subject. What am I missing?

Try checking page 59 of the manual for setting master GUITAR OUT settings for a patch and page 80 of the manual for the GUITAR OUT system settings.  Once you set those you should be able to get all of the tones from your mag pickups or modelled tones, depending on your selections.  I hope that works for you.  If you don't have a manual then you can download a pdf on the Roland website.

Biggest mistake of new Godin users with GK 13 pin output  -  If you desire to use the GR-55's Guitar out jack , be sure nothing is connected to the xtSA's
1/4" jacks -= these are switching jacks and will isolate and remove the xtSA's normal mag PU signal from the  GK 13 pin cable feeding the GR-55

That's what I was missing - enabling the guitar out under SYSTEM for each patch. I don't have time to play with it until the weekend, but I did try a quick experiment. I copied one of the synth patches to a user bank, turned the normal PU on, and turned on the guitar out under system. I then ran a cable from the guitar out to an amp and the normal GR out to a pa. With the switch on Snyth I get only synth, but no volume control on the Godin. On Mix I get synth AND mag through the PA, and the synth volume works, as well as mag PU through the amp. On Guitar I get only guitar through the amp, but still synth through the PA. I'll play with it more this weekend, but I can work with this. Thanks!
