Title: Trick to install the VG-99 USB driver on Windows 10
Post by: aragon on September 20, 2015, 03:23:21 PM
For those ones who upgraded their PC to Windows 10 here is how I have been able to install the VG-99 USB driver.

1) First download from the Roland web site the VG-99 USB driver for windows 8.1 (vg99_w81d_v101)

2) Look now for the RDIF1067.INF file in the package of the vg99_w81d_v101 and open the file with a text editor

3) Find the following lines :

[Roland.NTamd64.7]
;; not supported

and replaced by :

[Roland.NTamd64.7]
;; Windows 10
%RDID0067DeviceDesc%=RDID0067Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_00B2 ; VG-99

and save the file

3) To installed the driver you have now to restart Windows 10 with the advanced options (shutdown /r /o) and changed the startup options and chosed the option 7 ''Disable Driver Signature Enforcement'' (look on Google if you don't know  how to ''Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"

4) Once you have reboot your PC with the Driver Signature Enforcement disable , you can now installed the VG-99 USB driver by running the setup program on the pakage you download previously (make sure the modified driver file is in the package folder)

5) Once installed you don't have to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement at each reboot

Good luck !

For me it's working very well

THANKS! It Worked! VG-99 Editor worked too!

I did the same trick to install the driver of my Roland SonicCell, and it worked too.

One thing I want to add (I failed without doing this, sounds strange):

When you unzip the vg99_w81d_v101 driver downloaded from Roland, inside the  "Files" folder you will see 2 subfolders for 32bit and 64bit. Each of them has the RDIF1067.INF file. During the first try I only edited and saved the file in 64bit folder since my windows is 64bit. And it failed to install. I went back to edit the RDIF1067.INF in 32bit folder too. Then it installed the driver successfully.

Also since Driver Signature Enforcement is disabled, a warning message will pop up during the process, just select install anyway.

Since my VG-99 is connected to my mixer I just realised today that this trick will help you make the VG-99 editor working with Windows 10 but I have not been able to get sound to my PC from USB , so if you want make some recording from your DAW you will have to use the SPDIF output of the VG-99.

If anybody have been able to get sound from VG-99 with USB on Windows 10 let us know.

Hello, new member here.

I just installed the usb driver using the method described here. Thank you very much, very ingenious and works like a charm!

I have no problem with the sound, I can get audio and guitar-to-midi signals to my daw (ableton live) using only the usb cable.
All I did was choose the driver (ASIO --> VG-99), and turn ASIO direct monitoring off in the hardware setup. With it on all I got was terrible hiss.

Just did it. What I downloaded from above page is just a folder full with "instructions" files. All you need to do are:

- Uninstall previous driver (if you used the tricks from this forum that using Win8.1 driver)
- Plug in VG-99 and turn on, the driver will be downloaded from internet and installed automatically.

Problem I encountered
After above installation, I encountered the VG-99 Editor did not list VG-99 in midi in/out. I read the troubleshooting in the "downloaded instructions" above, it mentioned I could have the USB driver mode set to "Standard Mode" instead of "Advanced Mode" (in System - USB - Driver Mode, 2nd page). I checked it and it was in Standard Mode (I did not remember what I set to before. The Editor has been working for years). I changed it to Advanced mode, rebooted VG-99, opened VG-99 Editor and go to midi in/out setting. Now VG-99 is listed. Problem solved!
