How to post pics

Creat a free photo hosting account at
https://postimages.org/

https://postimg.cc/gallery/g9uh4lpa/

To post large pics here, they need to be uploaded to the web. A lot of guys here use photobucket.com. But i've recently moved PostImage because others  started placing restrictions and want $$$ when your photos become popular.
Once you get an account and upload your photos, go into your album

All you do right click on the image and click n "Copy image Address"

Now in your message, just hit the Insert Pics

"Paste" wherever you want your photo to appear (like this)...

Good luck. Look forward to seeing some photos.

I use https://postimages.org/

Pic repository is here
https://postimg.cc/gallery/g9uh4lpa/

and I can upload pics using my Android phone

I upload my pics to a free photo sharing service

https://postimage.io/
Then right click the pic from Postimage, copy the URL and insert mid post using the SMF forum image insert command

[i m g ] https://s6.postimg.cc/y2k2049s1/Steve_And_Fito_1.jpg [/ i m g ]

Here is what Composing your message with inline pics look like

( observe the [ i m g ] image codes )

IMPORTANT:  your pics must be hosted on an external photo server
www.snapagogo.com

Can I use this from an ipad as well? There seems to be no app.

I tried to upload pictures from ipad, but find that the format has changed on later ipad versions to .jpeg, which vguitarforums seems to reject...

Just a reminder when posting large pics, to use a separate image hosting site (PostImages, Snapagogo, etc) as we want to maintain room on our server for other file types

Vade

I just went through and deleted some pics from some of my posts. I also sent a donation to help with your server costs. As always many thanks for what you, and the other moderators, do to keep this incredible site up and running.

Might be helpful if users reduce the size of their images before uploading to VGF since many persons have the bad habit of taking and upload the picture directly from their cameras, which usually means a huge resolution/weight file.
So, does the VGF server engine reduces/encode the upload images size?  or original weight is preserved?
What size is considered large in terms of VGF server space?
When I upload images for my post or to others topics, I usually use images shots from my Nikon, which according to my chosen megapixels resolution typically produces photos with a size ranging from 1.4 MB to 5MB. Then I use a utility to reduce the file size while preserving the highest quality possible .

This example original image is 2592x1944,2MB, after encoding it is reduced to 1200x900/ 250K file, with good average net quality.

For tech freaks:
Encoding algorithm:
Color Depth 24bit
Progressive
Quality: 75%
Final File Size: 249K
Signal/noise ratio (SNR) 38.382 dB

The over riding issue is Uploading  large Photos in your post really impacts the bottom line and risks breaking the whole operation here.

If you notice  - we have zero pop up ads, and all forum operating costs come right out of my own pocket.  We do get occasional contributions  from members  time to time- (Much Appreciated!)

but most years we break even with zero "profit"
We operate this forum out of passion for guitar exploration, thanks to volunteers on a shoestring

But when the web hosting company says we are too popular and using too much bandwidth and storage space on their server , the operation cost per month becomes far too expensive for my budget, we risk shutting the forum down

We want to reserve our web server bandwidth for sharing patches and a few reference docs - not all your photos at  2MB size each of your guitar.

Instead there's a better method to achieve that goal, with no impact on our web hosting costs.

For images in your posts, we really want all members to learn how to use the third party image server apps  - as explained in 1st post in this thread
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=4823.msg32701#msg32701

After Photobucket.com started demanding an annual charge for image hosting
I've been using and recommending the free Snapagogo.com for a few years,

I completely agree, and encourage forum members to do so. I carelessly had not read the first post, sorry, so even reducing the size of the images, ultimately does not help the purpose.

Important and I could say essential to contribute with Elantric and crew as far as possible with this invaluable ad honorem mission, to keep alive this impressive depository of information, support, help and friendly VG networking.  I do time on time, (even under my country situation) even personally have one more reason, I'm the host for the official Band-in-a-Box Spanish forum (by 8 years) and VGF has taught me so much, about how I should manage it. Thanks.

Morning Carlos. It does appear to be down as of now.

P.S. Hmm... Carlos Autana. Did you play at Woodstock by any chance?

snapagogo has been dead for a few days

I hope it returns!

Meanwhile there are other free photo hosting sites

And I just found out I can upload pics directly from my ipad into snapagogo using the Puffin browser. This works for Android too on my phone.

Snapagogo is DOWN 100% >again

It seem a global fail, as is read in a popular site analizer.

Any suggestions for another images host site?
