My wife just bought me the GP-10 and I'm not using the VG99 any more.
Thinking of selling VG99 + FC300 + Stand.
How much would you sell it (I have no idea)?

Thanks,

Benoit
(from France ;))

chrish

It would depend on your supply and demand Market  in France or selling area.

There seems to be a backlog of vg99s for sale here in the US.

I own 4 VG-99s and two gp-10s. I still use the 99s on the road and in the studio as over all they have less issues than the GP-10s and greater flexibility. Your mileage may vary. If I were you Id hang on to the 99 because down the road youll pull it out and hear what youve been missing.

Hey Alex, I've been thinking a lot about this.
There's another reason I haven't told here: I've got a second baby incoming :)
So I've got to free my "gear" room and only keep stuff that won't take too much place in the living-room. That's why I'm sticking with the GP-10 that covers 95% of my needs.
So I'm selling: VG99 (450€) / FC300 (250€) / PDS-10 (60€).

Oh and just look what I've managed to get (left-hand one) just like someone did:

LOL. THAT is my road guitar! I would also use the GP-10 on the road except the Traveller/ GP-10 combo gives me alt tuning warbles on the GP 10 but not with the VG-99.

How do you tune the top three strings with that plastic cover in place over the pegs?

Only one screw fastens it to the body as a pivot. The other two screws hold it in place once its swung back into position.

I've contacted Traveller about this "in body " tuning system on this model and suggested they use the Steinberger type tuning system they have on some of their other models, but they told me that the inbody tuners are needed for " brand recognition" Go figure. They have other models that have non in body tuning but for some reason "this" model needs that. There's a lot of real estate that could be freed up on the body for a couple of Humbuckers, three single coils or blank so you could mound a Livid Guitar wing. I'm thinking of getting a Luthier to build me a replica with the Steiny type tuners like thet have on the other Traveller models and "then".... I "could" ( dare I say it...) Rule the world!

I know, we talked about this guitar. I find it to be the perfect match with my GP-10.
As a lefty, if I wanna gig with others, I always have to bring my guitar. This traveler + my GP-10 covers every sound I need and only weights 5 or 6 kilos altogether.
I don't have alt tuning warbles you're talking about...

Oh and VG99 sold.

vanceg

Wait a moment... back up:  are you telling me that, in France, it is common for husband to receive guitar equipment as gifts from his wife?

I gotta move to Europe....

This is the only guitar I hve that has the warbles. It happens on the A string, open to the fourth fret and no where else on the instrument.

The A string was a common bugbear for me, on my Steinie Spirit, till I realized that some of the bridge parts were rattling. I learned it was best to keep the bridge locked, because the little lock lever rattles otherwise.

After tightening everything up, an open A string didn't trigger false MIDI notes or jumpy COSM octaves (well, still the very rare jump, but never on a COSM tone after the fix).

alexmcginness

The bridge on the Traveller is a fixed bridge.

Right, but does anything rattle on the guitar? That's the point I'm trying to make. Maybe it's the rotating pickguard, or the output jack. Just check for rattles and exterminate them.

Completely checked. I have GK-3s on 5 guitars and only the Traveller has the GP 10 warbles. This is why Im still using the VG-99 live. No tuning warbles. If I didnt have to fly, Id be using one of my other guitars and the GP 10.

I have it too.
Only in A string. F*ck it.
I'll live with that.

So then it seems like the GP-10 alt tune issues are guitar related.
(But I have them on all of my guitars  ??? )

Also be sure your guitar strings are in standartd A-440Hz pitch

QuoteVG-8 Alternate Tuning Anomalies

When you tune down to a low "D" on the 6th string and the rest of the strings remain at standard tuning: Play the open 6th string, then the 11th fret, then the open, then the 10th fret & so on. Hear the portamento effect that definitely shouldn't be there. Then play each note twice and notice that the first note you play has a portamento and the second one does not. Having fun yet? Then de-tune it by a fifth, and the effect is different.

do the alternate tuning anomalies also appear after you've change the strings with a fresh set? ;)

I never change strings unless they brake. The advantage being consistency in tone and staying in tune.
Also if they havent broke off after 15 years they'll stay like that.
On top of that , old strings have less overtones and transients, so it should be better.
But I have restrung new guitars and no difference.

Since no issue occurs with the VG series with the same guitars there's another problem, maybe the algorithm

I'm using alternate tuning extensively in this patch and it's smooth as silk:

Can you post a patch where this is occurring for you and I'll try it on my end?

Everytime I hear your beautiful clean hex patches I have to wonder if it's a fx altered guitar or one of the synth models.

Thanks Brak(e)man - I'll check that out.  I heard the example at and how strange!  The first part in particular - I wonder if that effect could be exploited for a musical effect?  It's like there's a sustainer effect on just the overtones!
