Hi everyone. Elantric and I are considering few ideas to add value to the community and increase the content depth on FGN. Question : If we were to avail a free blog area

a) Would you be interested in having your blog on FGN
b) If yes, how would you use it? (ie document Dark Fire discovery process day by day etc)

Just trying to gauge interest & value proposition here. Please let us know. Thanks!

I'd be inclined to think that a site wiki would be more useful than user blogs. That might just be me though.

You're absolutely right. I'm putting in a wiki as well and thats going to be where we collaborate over material such as tutorials & manuals etc. Keep watching this space.

The blog idea could be of interest to people who like to keep a journal of sorts as they wade through the deep end with the Dark Fire etc. We don't need to do this at all if there is no interest. Just gauging.

That could be a useful resource.  As you say, it could allow members to document thier experiences fully, without clogging up FGN post with this type/amount of general information.

I suppose if it's easy to do it, then what's the harm? :)

I don't see myself blogging. When I first joined the group, it was sort-of a knee-jerk reaction to everyone having moved over here from that other forum. I had been lurking there for a couple of months, to keep updated on delivery status etc. I joined because at the time, it was 'Members Only'. I didn't read the main blurb "We utilize leading edge tools in pursuit of advanced guitar strategies and techniques." until later. I don't consider myself an advanced player - I'm intermediate. Consequently, I suspect I'll not have any profound or unique discoveries to blog about.

Don't worry, you are not alone.  I am in exactly the same position but hope the forum will help me gain a better knowledge of what is possible with the technology available now and into the future.

Hey - Its valuable for ALL of us here - to read about All members experiences -  no matter what your self assessed  "level"  is.

All members of FutureGuitarNow - are trailblazers  - we are each part of a unique "class" population here - the true embracers of radical technology!

Any member's contributions to the group are valuable - as they serve as "breadcrumbs" to lead us all through this forrest maze of technology - which is still evolving.

Maybe we have a WIKI, a Blog. and a News area -
like this:

But focus on Guitars tech

I'm the least advanced player but I love "playing" with advanced technology in a general sense. So couple that with love for music you get FGN! No need to be a session player with many years of experience etc to be welcome here. Positive attitude and willingness to learn and share at the same time is all that it takes.

The other point I want to stress is that we started this site as a knee jerk to the other forum when our posts started to disappear... It is now finding a natural path forward towards a bigger and better thing than just a site to discuss the Dark Fire guitar. I think there is a lot we can make of it but do remember we are learning as we go so any and all feedback, suggestions and offer to for help is always welcome!

Thanks for being there! Lets go for the 100th member. Who will it be???

Hey Zipidy I value your input as I do that of anybody else on this site. Even if you'r only asking a question it can trigger a debate that leads to some very interesting information. I'm sorry to read about the damage that Muppet did to your DF when removing the knobs but your experience will probably help stop others falling into the same trap.
I don't make mistakes..........I thought I did once but I was wrong.

I don't blog. I don't Wiki--but, I like the concept. I don't Instant Message. However, I can compose more complete thoughts with EMail. "Talking" on this web is okay for me; but, trying to find stuff later is a hassle, even though I would use Search before I would start a topic.

RS, Thanks for your great input. I am in the same camp. Bottomline, not all communication avenues will fit all the needs from everyone.

In my "day-job" I have to deal with so many emails and "now" issues I don't typically have the time to manage any other communication tools and the distraction they could potentially create. I am seeing a natural tendency to use these tools (+ Facebook, MySpace, Twitter etc) in the younger generations. Perhaps its something we are missing and they know better or maybe its all a fad.

I recall this accountant in the first company I worked for... He was near retirement age and had done the books manually for the past couple decades. He refused to have a PC delivered to his room and fought it with a vengeance. I was the PC Support guy so trying to explain to him and eventually teach him a little bit of Lotus 123 was my first real-life challenge.

So why this story now? I recall that guy almost everyday these days when I find myself in similar situations and force myself to think out of the box and try to get with the program... Doesn't come easy though!

MCK, a good point well explained.  I must admit that although I took on the computer revolution willingly some of these new communication methods seem to be leaving me behind a little.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement folks! However, I'm not a blogger and that's that. MCK brought up the age issue, which plays for me as well (40 is a couple of months away: I don't have a Facebook account, and frankly, I don't get the point of it).

I would like to contribute somehow. So MCK & Elantric, let me know if I can help with any of the background work (set up, data-entry or whatever) to get these projects going.

I had briefly contemplated the idea of an FGN photo album or something, like taking all the pics from the various posts and arrange them centrally in some meaningful way, with descriptions and whatever. Haven't had time recently to look into it properly but it's on the to-do list. Not sure if there's any interest, and if this forum has that possibility or if I would need to have a Picasa account or whatever.

MCK-fgn

Can't help but notice... For a non-user you seem to be very well informed!  ;D

Obviously, the Dark Fire is an exception  ;)

Zipidy-fgn

So MCK, have you reached a verdict? Will there be blogging in FGN?  :P

MCK-fgn

Great poster! Yes, its on the agenda but we need more people with so little to say to so many people! Just launched wiki, lets let that settle a little and then we can give the blog idea a go for those interested. Or we can try to recruit Mr. Anderton to come & blog for us... Now there's an idea!
