The instructions contained in the document below illustrate how to resolve loosening and squeaking that may be encountered with your Helix® floor processor's built-in expression pedal. Line 6 recommends that this maintenance be performed by an Authorized Service Center. Please note that while opening your Helix to perform this maintenance does not void your warranty, attempting this procedure yourself is done at the risk of potentially damaging the unit.

The procedure is demonstrated in the following video:

Marshall JVM Channel Switching with Helix MIDI
This works with Helix Firmware Version 2.20 and later.

PURPOSE - Have your JVM automatically switch to any desired channel preset combination when pressing any Helix Preset or Snapshot button.

IMPORTANT - Following the procedures described here may cause you to lose any MIDI switching settings you already have programmed into your Helix and JVM.

IMPORTANT: Set Helix MIDI Global Settings by going to Menu Button > Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > MIDI PC Send (Page 2) > Off

With that understood.

DO THIS FIRST

Connect a standard, five pin, MIDI cable from the Helix MIDI Out/Thru connector to the JVM Midi In connector.

DO THIS SECOND

JVM Factory Reset - the following procedure is for a JVM205H (See the Reset procedure for your amp if different).

This will erase all the MIDI presets and set MIDI reception channel to #1.

1. Switch the amplifier power off (power switch off, not standby switch).
2. Press and hold CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE switch.
3. Switch the amplifier power on (power switch on, not standby switch).

The two channel LEDs will glow steady red.

4. Release the CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE switch.

Both the CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE and the OVERDRIVE MODE switch LEDs will be lit solid red.

6. Press OVERDRIVE MODE switch.

Both LEDs will blink Red then the CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE switch will light Green.

Done with that.

Channel Switching with Helix Presets Only

If you do not use Helix Snapshots, and only use Helix Presets, this is for you. You can have your JVM switch to any channel settings when changing Helix Presets.

Here is how:

1. Press any Helix Preset button EXCEPT the one you want to program.
2. Set your JVM channels, reverb, fx loop etc. to the settings you want.
3. Put the JVM in the Learn mode by pressing the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times.

The FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch on the JVM will be blinking.

4. Press the Helix Preset button you want to program.

The FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch will blink fast a few times and go out.

Done.

Now, every time you press that Helix Preset button, the JVM will switch back to those settings.

Repeat for other Presets.

Channel Switching with Helix Presets and Snapshots

IMPORTANT - Before you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots it is important to understand that once you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots, you will have to go through all of your Presets and program at least one Snapshot. Otherwise, when switching between Presets, the amp settings will stay in their last state. Also, any MIDI Switching for Presets, that you have now, will be lost.

With that understood.

DO THIS FIRST FIRST

Make a list like this:

Preset# Snapshot# Program # Description
01A 1 0 Clean Green
01A 2 1 Overdrive Green
01A 3 2 Overdrive Green / Reverb On
01A 4 3 Overdrive Green / Reverb On / Master Volume On

This is just a sample list. Your final list will, likely, look quite different. For now, just use this list for the programming examples. More on this later.

The Program # is the code number of the MIDI PC (Program Change) Message that the Helix will send to the JVM when you press a Preset or Snapshot button on the Helix. This is how the JVM knows to change to a certain combination of settings. The Description is how the amp channels will be set after pressing a Preset or Snapshot button on the Helix.

If MIDI and Program Change and PC Message sounds like a foreign language to you right now, do not worry, you will not need to know any of that technical stuff. Just make the list and follow along.

DO THIS SECOND

Go to Menu > Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > Page 2 > MIDI PC Send - Turn this off > Press Home button

DO THIS THIRD

Navigate to the Preset you want to program and select Snapshot 1.

Press the Menu button and then press the Command Center knob.

Use the joystick to move to an unused Instant Command (Lightning Bolt). Any Commands already in use will have a Turquoise triangle above them. If you do not see any Turquoise triangles, just go to the lightning bolt in the top left corner. That is Instant Command 1.

With an Instant Command (Lightning Bolt) now highlighted, turn the Command knob to Command - Bank/Prog

You should see five settings and they should look like this:

Command: Bank/Prog
Midi Ch: Base
Bank CC00: off
Bank CC32: off
Program: off

Now, get the list that you made, earlier.

The only Helix setting we are going to change is Program. Looking at the list we see that the Program# for Preset 01A Snapshot 1 is 0. So, set the Program to 0 (zero). Leave everything else as/is.

Press Snapshot 2 button. Set Program to 1.

Press Snapshot 3 button. Set Program to 2.

Press Snapshot 4 button. Set Program to 3.

Press the Save button two times. You should now be back at the Home screen.

We have, now, programmed our first four Snapshots on the Helix to do channel switching duties on the JVM. The only thing left to do is program the JVM to match.

Looking at the list, we are saying we want Preset 01A Snapshot 1 to be Clean Green on the amp.

On the Helix you should be on Preset 01A.

Press Snapshot 2 button. Yes, Snapshot 2, that is not a misprint.

Set the JVM to Clean Green. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times. It should be blinking to indicate it is in the learn mode.

Press Snapshot 1 button. The JVM FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch will blink rapidly a few times and then go out.

Set JVM to Overdrive Green. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times.

Press Snapshot 2 button.

Set JVM to Overdrive Green / Reverb On. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times.

Press Snapshot 3 button.

Set JVM to Overdrive Green / Reverb On / Master Volume On. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times.

Press Snapshot 4 button.

Done.

Preset 01A Snapshots 1-4 should, now, recall the amp settings just like it is on the list.

Setting Preset Default Snapshot

To set a particular Snapshot as the default, for any given Preset, perform the following:

In this example we will set Snapshot 2 as the default for Preset 01A.

Navigate to Preset 01A and select Snapshot 2. Press the Save button two times.

Done.

Now, every time you switch to Preset 01A, no matter where you were, it will automatically go to Snapshot 2 and the JVM will switch to whatever amp settings you had for that Snapshot.

Summary and Caveats

Before you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots it is important to understand that once you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots, you will have to go through all of your Presets and program at least one Snapshot. Otherwise, when switching between Presets, the amp settings will stay in their last state. Also, any MIDI Switching for Presets, that you have now, will be lost.

Following the procedures described here may cause you to lose any MIDI switching settings you may already have programmed into your Helix and JVM.

The JVM will store 128 settings. For the two channel JVMs, there is a possible 48 settings combinations. For the four channel JVMs there is a possible 96 settings combinations. Each setting will have a different Program# (0-127). For example, if you wanted to add Clean Amber to the list, that would get a new Program#, maybe 4 since that has not been used already. If you are using/re-using a setting that is already on the list, even if it is on a different Preset, you would still use that same Program#. For example, if I wanted to use Clean Green on Preset 13B2 Snapshot 3, the Program# for that Snapshot is still going to be 0.

If you are only using two Snapshots for a Preset, you do not have to program all four like we did above. By the same token, if you are using eight, you will have to program the other four.

Special thanks to @phil_m and everyone that helped me work through this.

Multi-device support—HX Edit now opens a new window when multiple Helix or HX boxes are connected. For example, if you have Helix Floor and your bass player has HX Stomp, you can now connect both and quickly and easily copy and paste individual blocks back and forth. Windows can also be manually opened and closed from the Devices pull-down menu

Improvements

The tuner now accurately tunes notes down to 21.83 Hz (low F) for 5-string basses

HX Stomp only—Shortcut: If HX Stomp is in Preset or Snapshot mode, or FS3 in Stomp and Scroll mode has been assigned to something other than TAP/TUNER, you can now press ACTION and PAGE> together to open the Tuner screen

HX Stomp only—Shortcut: Press ACTION and <PAGE together to quickly toggle the Global Settings > Preferences > Snapshot Edits value

Bug Fixes
Helix Floor, Rack, LT only—A couple of amp models (including Cali Texas Ch 2) have their polarity reversed. When combined with another amp in parallel, this could cause phase cancellation. NOTE: This may affect the sound of some presets, especially if you swapped the polarity of Path B in the mixer block — FIXED

Helix Floor, Rack, LT only—Amp > Cali Texas Ch 1 could gradually decrease in level when Mid and/or Bass parameters are set to 0.0 — FIXED

Helix Floor, Rack, LT only—Delay models with two Time parameters could sometimes reset note divisions when changing snapshots — FIXED

HX Effects only—Clearing or cutting a block on Path B from HX Edit could sometimes HX Effects to freeze when in stomp footswitch mode — FIXED

HX Effects only—Switching from a preset with a Split > Crossover block to a preset with a Split > A/B block could sometimes cause HX Effects to freeze — FIXED

HX Effects only—When EXP Position is set to Global, the expression pedal's position could not be recalled immediately after switching presets, which could cause undesired signals to pass through — FIXED

HX Effects only—In rare cases, exiting the Tuner could sometimes slightly adjust signal level and tone — FIXED

HX Effects only—When connecting both left and right inputs, exiting the tuner could sometimes cause the right side of certain effects blocks to not be heard

HX Effects only—In very rare cases, engaging a certain combination of footswitches while connected to HX Edit and then power cycling HX Effects could clear certain blocks — FIXED

HX Effects only—From HX Edit, copying and pasting an Output block over itself could sometimes paste Mixer parameters — FIXED

HX Effects only—Switching Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > Tempo Select values while transmitting MIDI clock could sometimes result in sending incorrect tempi — FIXED

HX Effects only—After resetting Global Settings, Tap Tempo could become unresponsive while receiving MIDI Clock — FIXED

HX Effects only—HX Edit would not reflect the Looper > 1 Switch Looper's bypass status — FIXED

HX Effects only—Mixer parameter values could inadvertently be copied into new empty presets — FIXED

HX Effects only—Quickly changing snapshots from HX Edit could sometimes cause hardware and software to disconnect — FIXED

Helix Native only—Control/Command-click on parameter slider would not always snap to the hardware's default value — FIXED

Many other minor bug fixes and improvements

Known Issues
*IMPORTANT: The three new tuner types only appear for those registered users who didn't complain incessantly about Helix's previous tuner on social media. For those who did complain (AND WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE), the new tuner will be unlocked once you perform ONE of the following:
Post a photo of yourself on the Helix Facebook Group with the "><" logo written on your forehead in black Sharpie (washable magic marker is acceptable). The admins have been given the authority to unlock units with flagged serial numbers; assuming business hours, please allow 1-2 hours for the new tuner page to be unlocked (NOTE: You may have to restart Helix/HX for the new tuner page to appear)

Post a meme of Arnold Schwarzenegger from Kindergarten Cop yelling "IT'S NOT A TUNAAHH!" on either the Line 6 Helix—or—The Gear Page > Digital and Modeling Gear forum. Be sure to use the proper Impact font. Memes will not be judged for their artistic merit, although the spelling must be correct. Again, admins have been given the authority to unlock units with flagged serial numbers

If you'd prefer to participate silently, you may instead manually rename 47 presets "Patience is Key" (NOTE: Will not work from HX Edit; nor can you just copy one "Patience is Key" preset into 46 additional locations. You must manually rename each one. Once all 47 presets have been named correctly, the inspector [or FS5 on HX Effects] will read "Tuners unlocked!")

HX Effects only—When Tuner Type is set to "Strobe" and your string is waaay out of tune, the graphic tuner nodes may appear a bit glitchy

HX Effects only—In rare cases, moving an Impulse Response block from Path A to Path B can cause a second IR block to reset its impulse selection

Importing bundles containing Marketplace assets can take notably longer

When manually engaging a rebuild presets command (holding FS1+2 or FS2+3), Helix can appear to freeze even though it doesn't. Wait 15-20 seconds for the rebuild to complete and all is well

Loading a Distortion > Kinky Boost block can sometimes result in an audible thump

HX Edit currently only supports one or two Helix or HX devices connected at the same time (true multi-device support is forthcoming)

Wait, are you serious about the sharpie forehead, Schwarzenegger meme, and renaming 47 presets thing? No. This is why you always read the entire release notes

New Mac USB Audio Driver for Helix / HX Stomp
https://line6.com/software/index.html

Helix Mac Driver 1.0.5 improves multichannel audio performance and adds support for HX Stomp. It supports the following sample rates: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, and 96 kHz.

IMPORTANT! Installing the Helix Mac Driver 1.0.5 precludes using Helix with the class-compliant OS X Core Audio driver.

Note that macOS High Sierra 10.13 has implemented a change to how drivers are accessed that may require your attention. If you cannot use your Line 6 device after installing this driver, please see this article: macOS High Sierra 10.13 Driver Installation Change

After installing the driver and restarting your computer:
1. Make sure Helix/Helix Rack is connected to a dedicated USB port on your Mac. Do not use any sort of USB hub.

2. From the Apple menu, select "€œSystem Preferences" and click the Sound icon.

3. Click the Output tab. Line 6 Helix should appear in the list of devices. Click "€œLine 6 Helix"€ (or "Line 6 Helix Rack" "Line 6 Helix LT" or "Line 6 HX Stomp").

4. Click the Input tab. Line 6 Helix should appear in the list of devices. Click "€œLine 6 Helix"€ (or "Line 6 Helix Rack" "Line 6 Helix LT" or "Line 6 HX Stomp").

5. Open your DAW. In the list of audio devices, you may see two items-€”Line 6 Helix and (Helix Audio). Choose "€œLine 6 Helix"€ (or "Line 6 Helix Rack" "Line 6 Helix LT" or "Line 6 HX Stomp") for both Input and Output.

If for whatever reason you want to uninstall the Helix Mac Driver:
1. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Extensions. Inside the Extensions folder, you should see an item named "L6Helix.kext."€ Drag this file to the trash.

2. Empty the trash and restart your computer. Helix will return to using the class-compliant OS X Core Audio driver.

Known Issues
- In rare occasions, loss of audio occurs after waking your computer from sleep
- Audio artifacts may occur while adjusting UI controls in several DAW applications

Compatible OS: Mac OS X, Mac OS Mavericks, Mac OS Yosemite, Mac OS El Capitan, macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra, macOS Mojave

I also recommend HUM and Ripple to Zero
Up the SAG to 6-ìsh and BIAS down to 4-ish
Start Playing and slowly adjust the GAIN to preference
Once you have the "gain clarity" you want, fine tune with the B/M/T - if using a HB guitar, go easy on the MIDS
The Litigator* [ Fendery / Dumbly ] can get some awesome clean tones

So I was playing a gig with my Helix; I was using my little Alto powered speaker as a personal monitor, and I had a stage monitor for this show that had the rest of the band in it.

Something went wrong with the stage monitor and I lost it.

Luckily I had my trusty Helix, and it saved me.

I was able to unplug the XLR send to the stage monitor, plug it into the mic input on my Helix, and use path 2 in the preset to take input from the mic input, and output to only the 1/4" outputs. Then, I changed the output of my guitar in path 1 to Multi so it went out both the 1/4" and XLR outputs. Ran the 1/4" output to my Alto, and the XLR output to the board.

Now I had my monitor mix and my guitar both in the same speaker along with an isolated output of just my guitar to the board. And, I put a gain block in the signal path for the speaker which gave me the ability to blend it with my guitar to get the perfect balance in the monitor.

NAMM 2019: Line 6 Helix 2.8 update – K.O.T added
Limited Edition Helix and new firmware imminent
Approximate reading time: 2 Minutes
NAMM 2019 Line 6 Helix update?
NAMM 2019 Line 6 Helix update?  ·  Source: Facebook

So then everyone is waiting for a certain Line 6 Helix update. Looks like it may well be dropping, but you are going to have to wait a little longer.

Line 6 Helix 2.8 update
You know me, I love a good rumour and the biggest one at NAMM 2019 was possibly that fabled Line 6 Helix 2.8 update. The whole Helix community has been waiting (not so patiently) with bated breath for this one to drop.

We were all hoping for a Winter NAMM announcement, sure we got the rather handy gig worthy, wireless system Line 6 Relay G10S. It certainly is a great piece of guitar kit, but not one what gets you as excited as the hyped announcement of new Helix products.

But it looks like it could be March until we finally get that firmware upgrade.

Helix User Group
What I can say is we are going to get 7 new amps, 10 effects and the ability to exchange presets between devices.

The Line 6 PowerCab will support XLR cables and possibly the best news of all. Plus, you can finally have some support for your Line 6 DT-25 and DT-50 amps!

Oh, and finally now everyone, no matter which version of the Helix hardware they own,  gets a cheap cross-grade to the Helix Native software, which has been ongoing for a while now anyway.

Amp List
Models should include the new – Fullerton Tweed, LaGrange Tweed, Revv Gen Clean, Revv Gen Gain1, Rev Gen Gain2 and an Ampeg SVT-4.

Line 6 Helix Update NAMM 2019
Line 6 Helix Update?

What Effects?
You need to scroll to around the 26-minute mark of the video below to get some more info on the 2.8 firmware updates.

These include models Shelf EQ, Tilt EQ  and also for a King Of Tone/ K.O.T. and the Zendrive!

Plus Ampeg Bass Scrambler, Sansamp Bass Driver BI V2 and Mooger Fooger MuRF

Limited Edition Colour?
Then there is the matter of the limited-edition coloured Helix floor pedals models that showed up on the Line 6 Helix Facebook Group. But, I will let you all argue that one out.

Repair? Not sure if I'd call it that. Tactile switches (as they are often known) are dirt cheap, I'd have replaced all of them with new ones. Brave man though.
Edit:
