Hi.
I know this may be a stupid question but my variax 6 battery charger blinks red all the time and doesn't appear to charge the battery at all. I've left it charging for 20 odd hours but no success. Could anyone shine a light on this or should I just buy another charger and battery?
Many thanks

I assume this is for a Tyler Variax

The Charger rarely fails -

Many of these Proprietary Variax Li-Ion batteries are now 10 years old - and they do seem to fail pre-maturely

(Despite the battery appearing to be similar to Sony NP-F Camcorder type

You must use the official Line-6 Battery  - due to the built in Line-6 counterfeit protection IC (here)

There are some places around that will open up the battery pack and replace the LiPo cells, so long as the ID chip is left alone.

Picked up one of those 'Cameron Sino' JTV batteries from Amazon. I'm pleased to say that it works just fine in my JTV-69. You need to be careful ordering from Amazon, since that same vendor offers a number of aftermarket batteries in the same form-factor. Not all of them are for Line 6 guitars.

Been dealing with an array of "Dead" JTV Battery types
All read 0V to 4.7V after sitting inside JTV-59 JTV-69 guitars or sitting in gig bag pockets past few years

These were tested:
LINE-6 11-40-0007 Li-Ion 7.4V @ 2200mAh

LINE-6 98-034-0003 Li-Ion 7.4V @ 2200mAh

Cameron Sino CS-LNE100SL Li-Ion 7.4V @ 2800mAh

All above battery types when fully recharged will function correctly with JTV-59 & JTV-69 guitars and built in battery power level test indicator on the JTV rear Battery holder will indicate the battery power status -4 Green LEDs = full charge.

I've experienced the battery charger that reliably works to recharge all above batteries - even if they read 0V  is the official Line-6 JTV Battery Charger and is labeled "98-034-0001" on the bottom and employs an external 12VDC @ 1000mA center positive power adapter which charges the batteries to nominal  8.4 VDC
https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/231974-line-6-98-034-0001-jtv-variax-battery-charger-kit-for-jtv-variax-guitar-batteries

I had lost my original external 12VDC @ 1000mA center positive power adapter for this charger - can report I successfully used  with 12VDC @ 1500mA adapter.

The operation of the official Line-6 JTV Battery Charger with installed battery to be recharged  is:

* No Red LED =  dead JTV battery that measures below 4VDC should become resurrected if left on the charger for 3-5 hours

* Solid Red LED = good JTV  battery is being charged

* Flashing Red LED =good JTV  battery is fully recharged.
JTV battery will measure 8.40VDC after removed from the charger

Similar looking Sony NP-F550 Battery's which successfully work in Sony camcorders will NOT  work on Line-6  JTV guitars

I also tested a generic Kastar "USB SLIM USB Battery charger for Sony F550 camcorder batteries-but with mixed results.
Kastar USB SLIM USB Battery charger can recharge  a low level JTV Battery  - but if JTV Battery has not been used for extended period and has dropped below 4.2VDC, this generic Kastar USB SLIM USB Battery charger  will not recharge the JTV battery

IMHO The ideal JTV Battery Charger is the
Sony BC-V615  as it's 100-240VAC input self contained with just a simple AC mains cable and gently used examples are $12 on ebay
