Elantric,
thanks for the chart. I reviewed it but it still doesn't answer the question...is the G1D flatter from polepiece to polepice?  if it is..that would allow me to shim that pickup closer than my GK2...which sticks to the G string polepiece because it has a shape that rises up on the middle strings.
        Your thoughts?

No  - it shares the same 12" radius as GK-2A

Download and read this doc for the details on specific dimensions (with photos) unique to each hex PU type for use on your instrument

Quotemy GK2...which sticks to the G string polepiece because it has a shape that rises up on the middle strings.

Which would indicate you have a guitar with a flatter fretboard with larger than 12 inch radius

What type of Guitar are you using?

Elantric,
good question. I have a Seagull s6 acoustic with a cutaway.  I like it alot..woks well for me. Not sure of the radius of the bridge.  It tracks pretty well with the GK2, but far from perfect (using my Gi-20 interface).
          does that help?

Elantric,
thanks for the speedy reply.  And, also thanks for the doc..I looked at it..the pics were most helpful.
I do have some solidbody guitars with GK2s on them..but for the gig I do almost every weekend I need an acoustic with midi.  To my ears nothing sounds as good as a real acoustic..I tried the VG99 etc and triggering samples andIalways comeback to a real acoustic guitar..but for some songs I need guitar synth..hence my weird guitar.  And it works pretty well.I did my own install, and I think if I could get a midi pickup with less curve to it (that 12"radius of all the pickups is not agreeing with my 16" radius guitar,I gather)..I would have better signal and thus better tracking.I play pretty clean and ghost notes and mis-triggering is pretty minimal...not as good as midi-keys but acceptable.
Is there a better solution for my application?  Id love to know,if so.

Tough call -  not cheap and a bit pricey $$) But RMC and Graphtech offer hex Piezo Saddles and 13 pin preamp for Roland 13 pin -

and if you want fastest Guitar to MIDI on an Acoustic - there is the Fishman Tripleplay -  but that uses a PU very similar to the GK-2A

Elantric,
thanks again for all your help. You really are a VERY generous person, to help people, like you do ALL THE TIME.
I keep an eye in the FTP..but being a PC Computer guy and also not having alot of funds..I will have to wait till the product is both more mature and the price comes down.  Id be a user RIGHT NOW if the price was significantly less, and if it were more PC oriented.
I am making the acoustic-midi thing work...and so far so good.  I have owned piezo saddles on guitars for many years (anyone remember Mike Christian???..I was an earlier adopter of his work)..and I have wound up with a real guitar with a midi pickup on it, if that reveals how I feel about piezo quack.
But its all good and it all has its time and place.

A few weeks back, losing out by the time it took me to find my credit card, I narrowly missed owning a G1D, which device I'd never previously known to exist.

After a bit of digging, I found that while Yamaha Corp has let go of info on the G1D, it still maintains pages for the bass versions & the G50 rackmount converter.

I was immediately intrigued by the B1D because, as I said, "models" --

As my main basses are five-string (XB500 & EDA905), I've felt no need to rush into fitting one with the four-course-only GK-3B, but this is a bit of a paradigm-changer.

Does anyone have hands-on, or were they too short-lived?

Was this hardware all rebranded Axon?

Is that a good/bad/indifferent thing? Like, are there any compatibility issues if I luck onto a B1D & want to run it to a VG?

Is the G50advantaged in any way over the GI-20 or even GI-10?

I've got a B1D that I briefly used on my Cort 4 string bass driving the GR-55. I found the tracking was okay but I rarely play bass except if I'm working on my own songs. I do have to say it was pretty cool to hear organ, sax, piano, etc. emanating from that bass.  :) Keep searching Ebay, Craigslist, Kijiji, etc. and I'm sure you'll find one.

Four course? The GK3B is suitable for 5 and 6 string basses too.

Ooops (again), I mis-stated. (Too many open browser windows...)

The thought actually in my head was that Yamaha appeared to have three purpose-built bass models, rather than a six-pole one-size-fits-all-just-ignore-any-extra-bits version.

(Still not ideal. The bridge on my "Wide 5" Warmoth is almost twice that of my Vox panther short-scale four. But, clearly can't have it all...)

It's being sold with an Ax 100 and seller doesn't have a clue. Please let me know if I am posting in an incorrect place. I don't seem to be getting responses to my questions. I think I have email notification checked I guess I should look again.

Find a pic?

i bet its a Yamaha G1D Mag Hex PU - essentially a clone of the Roland GK-2A

https://reverb.com/item/1749137-yamaha-g1d-divided-pickup

Which is same as Axon AX-101 Hex PU

I have the AX 101, been in a drawer for years and does not seem to be working. I can't get a signal to the tuner or patches. I can inc and dec and that's about it. is there info on how to test and repair these? That would be a huge help. Thanks for the pics.

Elantric, thanks I missed the part about the yamaha clone. That's very good to know. I remember a post here somewhere saying one of these GKs was better than the others. I don't remember which it was and I must not be using the correct search string, I can't get back to the post.
