These are still 200 less shipped to the US than buying here. Almost feel like I should grab extra but it hasn't changed in years. I need to get another one but they're out of stock, though they're restocking next month. I worry sometimes this stuff will become harder and harder to get but at least with the new 13pin units still being released, they'll be in demand again with each new device.

I've had one on order for a few months. They're "always" restocking next month... and next month...and...
The pandemic may have something to do with this, I don't know...

Not good. That might be why. I would expect them to be shipping with the sy just out. Maybe it's a production hold up. Or a matter of taking care of bigger markets first. Just speculating. I'll keep my eyes on them.

You can still get them off the shelf here in New Zealand
NZD $299.00 = USD $182.97
and maybe able to get the 15% GST (tax) off if sent overseas.

Still better than here. They're like 330 or more USD. So strange how I could get them shipped from UK for 130.

It was just a few years ago we discovered Andertons UK could deliver GK-KIT-GT3 Internal Kits for $135 with shipping
https://www.andertons.co.uk/roland-gk3-internal-pickup-kit-%28for-use-with-roland-guitar-synths%29-gkkitgt3

While in USA these same kits are $349 USD
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GKKITGT3--roland-gk-kit-for-guitar

This goes a long way to explain the lack of popularity in USA for GK 13 pin  -
it used to be Tom Beckman would hike the price of imported Roland / Boss Products when he ran Roland US, 1976-1996

So it's looking like they're out of stock worldwide. Even Sweetwater at 350 USD are waiting on them. Maybe they have to restart production because of the sy? Maybe they had no intention of continuing that format? Maybe they're shut down do to covid? I'm getting frustrated. I don't suppose a hexpander would work with a gk2a pickup attached. Or, could I make piezo saddles from the ones in my new trem? Because I'm not buying the ghost saddles. Even if I wanted to, they won't fit the new trem. The old one, sure but that's busted lol. I have the extra external stuff to try and convert but I don't know if that's going to fit and what a pain that could turn out to be.

The thing with the internal kits is they are purchased to go into guitars so you'll never be able to find a deal used the way you can with GK2/3s.  If you expect to ever need one it would probably be a good idea to pick one up at the best possible price and put it aside.

That's a good point. Externals are all over eBay. I considered getting an extra from andertons last time. I wish I had. If/when they get them back in, we should probably load up on them.

So in the meantime, the only option is to pick up an external GK3, gut it, and install the innards internally, adding volume pot and switches as necessary, huh? Not as elegant, but certainly doable.

I have a spare but idk how i feel about doing that two actually. I have a gk3 with a broken pickup I would try it out with and then just steal the pickup from the 2a. Unless the white one is still available from fender parts. 🤔

I've seen it. Thanks. Just concerned about making a mistake (like when I broke a coil on the hex pickup with a soldering iron or something) and whether the board will fit as well as an internal kit would. It's an ibanez rx. Basically an rg with a pickguard and trem as far as routing is concerned.

gumbo

FWIW, The board in an Internal Kit is almost half the size of that in an External GK3 Pickup....
....then you have either de-solder the original 13-pin jack or come up with a work-around for that one..  (although I have helped people on that one in the past)

Remoting the S1 & S2 switches is not for the faint-hearted either...

Just use the external GK-3 until the GK-Kit-3 is available.
Place one of there H.A.L. eye stickers on the GK-3 knob for fun.

haha. I've actually had a 2a on this guitar since about 2001. It's a guitar oddity. 😂 Thing is, I'm refretting, replacing practically everything, and want to do it all at once. My main player is an s with an internal I put together anyway. I'm just in parts buying mode. Chances are they'll be in by the time I get to finish fretting that. It's not the next project on my list either. Just happened to find all the other stuff I'd been looking for recently.

adamlee011

Apparently reverb has ONE left. I just got a deal where if I spend so much I get a bunch back from my credit card. But I only have another couple months to do so. I DON'T want to spend 350 bucks on it though! I guess jump on it now if anybody really needs one right now.

Here are some links of shops who claim to have some in stock (Might want to check if they still are)

That last one I thought was in Germany from the site but their reply was full of Turkish and said Istanbul somewhere in there. I'm Turkish and have family in Istanbul so, fingers crossed they're there and I can have it picked up locally and make sure it's right. Shouldn't be an issue shipping from family as far as customs or tariffs or whatever I think. In case anybody cares. Lol

Headless68

Musique shop (in France) has them in stock for £75  - no delivery charge to UK (not sure about other areas though )

Dude! Thank you! I've been going nuts trying to find one. I didn't notice the link from the canada store for the 6 string version until I came back in here today. A little more than the andertons but still better than here, if I could even get one here. Paid for it. Going to call when they're open just to double check it's indeed in stock and on the way. Had a heck of a time emailing and ordering from the German sites just to be told they can't ship here for some reason or it disappeared from stock or, just a whole mess of trouble. The extra few bucks is worth it to get my hands on it now, not knowing if or when I'll ever see one again. Thanks SO much for your help. I was starting to get obsessed. Lol. BTW, any idea the difference between gk kit gt and gk kit gt3? Is the former the 2a pickup? Not that it matters. In fact I have an external 2a on that guitar now and it's actually a little better as far as signal to noise than my gk3 install.

adamlee011

Spoke with them on the phone. They have a bunch in stock and they are the gt3. They got them in about 3 or 4 months ago. That's the solo guitars Canada link. In case any of you are waiting for them to show up somewhere.

In April Anderton's kept showing out of stock with next delivery due at the end of the month.  I placed an order a few days before the end date, and they sent me one!   I haven't installed it yet, it is going into a new kit build I received just before everything shut down.
