... actually it's a Roland MDP-7 drum pad mount with a mic stand thread adapter screwed into the top, which with the MDP-7 being plastic is quite easy.

Can you show or describe how the MDP-7 interfaces with the mic stand with the threaded adapter?

It just screws on like a microphone clip, once you have added the thread adapter. Here's a pic with one in the base (I had to use a reamer to widen the hole a little to get the adapter to screw in):
