It's a FAKE press release, I'm just a wise guy.  ;D
Interesting though, perhaps a bit too believable? I write real ones every now and then for clients, I must be getting good at it...

Yikes!  :o

Mebbe my Gibson fake press release was taken seriously because it was too close to the real thing?

Simply Henry J's attempt to raise capital, to fend off the eventual bank takeover that will occur summer 2018

I suspect at NAMM - they will resurrect the Vegas High Roller  era Gibson Casino  / BlackJack tables for Gibson Dealers to place orders ( they did this when they released the Gibson Vegas High Roller models in the late 1990's)   "Double or nothing"

Its official

Gibson will not be attending 2018 Winter NAMM

electing to focus on 2018 CES show instead

They raised $14 million selling the Memphis factory

So I guess Henry has lost interest in promoting Gibson guitars and now into hawking electronics ???

Rhcole

2018 is not lining up to be a good year for fans of Gibson.
If they have any rabbits in the hat they need to pull them out soon, otherwise the inevitable seems to be grinding on forward.

Matteo Barducci

Gibson had no official booth inside the last NAMM: they were under a big tent into the parking lot and access was restricted only to dealers.

However, the guitar you saw at Musician's Friend was an "M2M" or "Made To Measure": a specific request from one customer and built to his spec(as a real Custom Shop should be). Probably a small batch configured from the dealer or a guitar ordered and never collected.

Gibson 2018 catalog is exciting as no recent one has been, with the return of the RD and the SG Jr. at an interesting price.

Alas - I wont be there this year.  Baby is due Jan 17...and convincing my wife that I need to be looking at new gear at that point is unlikely.  Shoot, this year I suspect I wont even give a flying hoot about new gear...

One thing you can count on, the baby doesn't give a hoot about the schedule. :)

So another Strat-Style guitar with more or less standard features.
Very innovative, since they already have three series of those (RG, S, SA).
The more guitars I've played and owned the more I miss real variety.
It all boils down to basically two questions:
Single Coils or  Humbuckers?
Vibrato or fixed bridge?
Most of the available shapes are equally unergonomic (at least when playing seated).

Probably another year without real "news" for guitarists ;)

NAMM 2018: Gibson no-show confirmed
By Michael Astley-Brown a day agoGuitars

Guitar maker instead focusing on Consumer Electronics Show

(Image: © Joby Sessions/Future)
NAMM 2018: Given NAMM's status as the musical instrument trade show, you'd expect an appearance from one of the biggest names in guitars to be a given, but Gibson will not be attending this year.

Rather than its customary third-floor stand at the Anaheim MI staple, the company is instead focusing its efforts on the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which takes place on 9-12 January 2018.

The move seems to tally with Gibson Brands' recent statement regarding the shock move to end development for Cakewalk music software, where it stated, "The decision was made to better align with the company's acquisition strategy that is heavily focused on growth in the global consumer electronics audio business under the Philips brand."

As well as Philips, the ambitious group also plays host to audio companies TEAC, Tascam and Onkyo.

This year's no-show follows 2017's rather sparse Winter NAMM stand, which featured a few new Custom models, but was more notable for its absence of a much talked-about, mysterious new solidbody design, which was showcased instead to tech-heads at CES. That guitar was later released as the Modern Double Cut and finally made its NAMM debut in Nashville in July.

Last year also saw the sale of the company's Memphis factory, which itself came amid profit warnings.

Regardless, we'll be rounding up any news Gibson may have from Vegas - just don't expect anything from Anaheim.
