Are the jamstix versions all the same? Jamstix 3, jamstix 3xl, jamstix p. What is the difference?

They all have the same base engine.  3P, 3XL, 3XXL just come with more content in the form of drum kits, drummer models, and styles.  You can buy the extra content up front:

Or, you can just get JS3, and buy the content that you want as add-ons individually.

The standard version does come with a pretty nice selection of stuff to get you going all by itself.

Personally I think the AI Pak is the best expansion pak bang for the buck.  Gives you a ton of new drummers and styles, and you can of course extract elements from those drummers and styles and mix and match them with others.  AI Pak covers a whole gambit of different genres (as opposed to say Metal Pak or Jamcussion which are a bit more specific).

Looks like Rayzoon is having their usual end of the year blowout sale, half price on most stuff.  Excellent value.

Hello all - has been a while since I've posted.  Sorry about that, or perhaps "you're welcome", depending on your perspective  :) .

Just thought I'd call out that the new version of Jamstix, version 4, is out now, and is on sale through 12/31/17.

Looks like there are some nice usability improvements in there, with more, such as new drummer and style models, on the way.  I purchased but have not had time to spend with it yet.  Will try to report back here once I do.

Been using backing tracks for my live show since 1986. Heres something thats cheaper and quicker than midi files if you want to spend less time noodlin with midi.

That's a neat idea and a good tip.  Totally a different purpose than what I'd use jamstix for, though.  I use jamstix as a composition tool.  Wouldn't attempt to use it to create backing tracks for live cover songs - easier ways to do that.
