This is an excellent song to use/show some of the VG's unique capabilities.

I'm not very fond of "pulse" version of "shine..." nor its prior renditions,
but the "remember that night" performance is simply amazing. It is
so transparent, so simple and yet incredible brilliant. Took him about 30 years
to polish this tone, and finally he got rid of phaser, flanger etc and end up
with just basic chorus, delay, pure strat tone and of course a hiwatt

Please check this video clip for reference/comparison:
! Video not found

These are the main features:
1.   Channel A handles the background textures – it is controlled by means of Exp ped 1
2.   Channel B handles the lead guitar – it is controlled by means of Exp ped 2
3.   The slp plexi 1959 was used to render the hiwatt tone, as this seem to me the most
transparent in the upper mid frequency range at low gain out of all VG's preamps,
4.   Freeze function is used to produce the sound on sound effect as Gilmour is using
when performing all by himself (please refer to http://www.gilmourish.com/?p=287
for more information, which btw is also another fabulous resource just like this forum is).
The exp pedal 1 was calibrated so that the freeze function to be immediately activated
when engaged (range 0-1) then the remaining range controls only the swell volume
(see at 1.06 from first reference video).
(for more info on "sound on sound" please check also this video
)

These are the main assignments:
1.   Exp ped 1 controls the freeze and volume of the background texture
2.   Exp ped 2 controls only the post volume of B-chain (lead)
3.   GK3 Volume controls only the pickup volume of B-channel (the lead) and
let the A-channel (the swell) untouched
4.   CTL1 will switch on the overdrive on channel B
5.   CTL2 will switch back and forth between the two types of delay (intro and lead)

How I performed it:
1.   A) Start with both exp. pedals up, and  B) set the GK3 volume
somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 depending on your picking attack
2.   @0.00: Strum gently the Gm chord and wait for the chord to develop and breath
3.   @0.03: Engage slowly the exp1 pedal (this will switch on the freeze function which will
cut a small loop resulting in a small sample from the Gm chord, that's why
you have to let the chord soothe its vibrations) and then increase pedal action
until you got the proper volume for the swell
4.   @0.20: Rock the exp ped 2 all the way down and start playing the intro solo (F full bend to G)
5.   @0.22: Move your foot on exp ped 1 in order to have it ready for the next chord
6.   @0.37: Roll back and forth the exp ped 1 at the end of each solo passage
to add background textures (please note that it have to be completely
rolled up back in order to activate again the freeze when engaged the next chord)
7.   @2.15: roll back quickly the exp ped 2 to shut off the volume of the lead,
8.   @2.16 Strum the Gm chord again for the interlude background. Now roll back completely
the exp.ped1 and engaged it @2.20 immediately to pick up a sample from the last
strummed Gm chord and leave it there
9.   @2.25: Switch on the CTL2 to bring on the second type of delay
10.   Play the interlude
11.   @3.19: Switch off the CTL2 and mess around with some chords
12.   @3.35: Bring all the way up the GK3 volume and step on the CTL1 footswitch
13.   @3.37: Play the solo
14.   @4.32: Push the GK3 S2 button to switch the pickup selector to bridge position for
the last part of the solo (I lost some timing on my playing here but you got
the idea)

It may seem complicated but believe me it isn't! Watch carefully the way he
did it and you will see that everything looks so easy.

I would truly appreciate any comments/suggestions for improving this tone.

cheers

bravo! The sound is accurate to my ears and the parts are very well played.

I'm most interested in your usage of the controls and switch options. I may have questions coming.  :)

AWESOME ONE - thanks so much

The instruction imply that the FREEZE comes on by itself with expression pedal?
I can't get that to work?  Or are we suppose to pass over the  beam to freeze?

I think sometimes it comes on -  is there a calibrate for the pedal?  maybe mine isn't reading  0-1 well?
I see the freeze sw  in the program... any idea why it won't come on/off with pedal?

What chords follow the Gm?

Any ideas why mine don't?  I thought maybe my SYS control "default" settings were over riding it... but I cleared them and same problem.  And I turned HOLD OFF - so they should be over ridden?

Make sure they are on ASSIGNABLE(PATCH) and not off.

thanks that did it - it finally occured to me what "assignable patch" means.
I thought it was telling me "this is an assignable..."

but I get it now - means - leaving it  "assignable by the patch loaded" ah...

I have to thank you again for this patch. It's better than any patch that comes on the VG99

After getting the freeze to work - I played with it some more and had a blast. (Gm Dm Cm - thanks guys DOH simply I IV V, I expected something more complex).  The Tone of the Lead is superb... so many of the high sustain patches tend to amplify the background noise, unmutting strings etc). Getting this was like getting a new toy for Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all.

Hi folks !

Even though I do own my VG-99 for quite some time, I'm going to explore it a bit more just now. So it seems, I'm facing some basic problem, so bear with me...

I can't get any sound out of this patch. The basic setup of the system is ok, as other patches work fine, built in ones as well as others downloaded from here. When I select the "chaiin" I see a signal coming out of COSM Guitar.

I do NOT have a FC-300 connected. Of course I checked the assignments but didn't see anything obvious.

Can anybody give me a hint, what else to check ?

Thanks and best regards
RKW

This is fantastic.  Both the played example and the patch and the integration of the pedals.  WONDERFUL!

Can't wait to try it!
