Roll your own Eurorack modules with Otto's DIY prototyping environment
Otto's DIY

It's fun to build DIY module kits for Eurorack, but what about taking that further into designing and building your own modules? How do you go from a design to a working module within a Eurorack? Otto's DIY Ecosystem is a prototyping environment that will take your designs and put them right into your rack in a durable, safe format.

Otto's DIY
Just launched on Indigogo Otto's DIY Eurorack Modules brings together a number of tools to enable you to quickly and easily build prototypes of your own modules. All without having to get PCBs printed. Otto's DIY ecosystem consists Eurorack compatible prototyping boards and a PowerBrick extension which provides power to your module while protecting the rest of your system.

There are currently two boards available, the Protoboard-1120 and the Stripboard-480. These have a grid of through-hole double sided plated connections for easy mounting and soldering of components. Each board fits into the Eurorack case but are designed to stack on top of each other by snapping off the top and bottom mounting sections.

The kit is designed for safe experimentation and quick module prototyping. The boards will fit commonly used synthesizer components and pre-drilled holes and included stand-offs make it easy to sandwich boards together.

They are looking to raise $5000 in pre-orders and kits start from $20 for two stripboards and a PowerBrick – enough to build a module. For $129 you can go for the Gold Pack with enough for 4 modules including 20 jack sockets and 20 pots.

It's a really neat idea. I am no less daunted by the notion of designing my own modules. But the very fact that you could easily build a module based on a design you found on the internet, with no special tools, and have it running in your rack is pretty amazing. The learning opportunities are huge.

Put together by Kerti Kristóf and Sövény Gergely of Intech Studio the campaign is running for a month and they aim to deliver in April. If you've ever considered getting deeper into the electronics of Eurorack then this looks like an awesome way in.
