BTS seems too have a bug that you can't move pedals? Anyone else seeing this.

QuoteAnyone on MacOS Sierra beta?

I have enough pain in my life - no time to beta test the new OSX train wreck IMHO.

But I bet its an incompatibility with Adobe AIR and MacOS Sierra beta that will require sorting out =, but not stable until December 2016

Why do they keep doing this every 6 months?
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

SO far its been pretty stable. But yeah its almost certainly an AIR bug. ;)

Profit - $$$$

Actually they do it every year for past 7 years
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS_X

El Capitan is still broke for bulk of my needs - Luckily I grabbed a used 2011 MacBook Pro with OSX 10.10 Yosemite on it a few months ago  - no intention of upgrading

But there are some developers that love El Capitan - the latest OnSong requires El Capitan and won't run on any older version of OSX probably due to the free OSX development tool used for coding it

Musicians & Producers: Do NOT Upgrade to Mac OS Sierra 10.12 Yet
Rounik Sethi on Sep 20, 2016 in News  1 comments

SHARE:
If you're awaiting the launch of the new macOS Sierra from Apple and want to upgrade your music studio machine immediately... don't! There's reports of issues with audio unit plug-ins flying in.

I'm not trying to be dramatic here. But, don't do it. At least don't upgrade to the first version of macOS Sierra on your primary music making machine. By the time you read this it might (and probably will be) safe to upgrade. But, just as macOS Sierra is launching around 22nd September. Hold back.

Yes, we know you want to experience Siri on your Mac. Yes, it's lovely to delve into new OS features. Unfortunately, there appears to be a problem with certain audio unit plugins running in Apple's new OS. (Sigh: seems like we have  similar issues every new Mac OS release...).

Hmmm... We've been here before. Just 12 glorious months ago, remember?

We're not certain yet when fixes will be made available... but as a general rule for computer-based musicians and producers: when a new OS comes out...

Don't upgrade if you're mid-project / album
Don't upgrade until someone else has tested the software, hardware and plugins you rely on with the new OS
Don't upgrade on your studio or live machine
Backup your Mac/PC before upgrading
Keep extra copies of your important projects, settings, files in the cloud or a separate hard drive.
Here's what Plugin Alliance are saying about some of the incompatibility between some plugins and macOS Sierra 10.12:

"We're writing to let you know that in our qualification of Apple's new Sierra OS (v 10.12) we have discovered serious problems with many Plugin Alliance products that primarily affect customers who use the Audio Unit format. Our developers are working hard on a solution but at this time we are recommending that all Mac based Plugin Alliance customers do not upgrade to Sierra. We will continue our qualification efforts and expect to announce full support in the near future. We greatly appreciate your patience while we complete our qualification process."

Universal Audio also recommend against upgrading to macOS Sierra immediately:

"Apple has announced that macOS Sierra will be released on September 20th, 2016. UAD v8.7 software is not fully tested or compatible with macOS Sierra, and we recommend that you do not install this update until compatibility is announced. We are currently working on testing and qualifying macOS Sierra for a future UAD software update.

"UAD v8.7 is tested and compatible with released versions of Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, 10.10 Yosemite, and 10.11 El Capitan. Pre-release and beta versions of Mac OS X / macOS are not supported."

Which Plug-Ins Run Well in macOS Sierra?

It's not all bad news or sad tidings though. Simon Bangs from inMusic tells us that all AirMusic tech and Sonivox plugins are working well. Cyril Decay tells us he's been testing 10.12 for a few weeks and is experiencing no more lags in Pro Tools or Logic Pro X. Additionally 32Lives is working great with URS, Abbey Road Plugins, and he's been using "Nebula Pro with Nebula Setups, Slate Digital, Flux, Soundtoys V5, Eventide without any issues".

If you've been testing different AU audio plug-ins in the new OS Sierra, let us know how they are performing for you.

Distortion on input at 48k with original Apogee ONE on OS 10.12 Sierra
Posted by adam - Sep 20, 2016 ONE, ONE: General, ONE: Troubleshooting 0 1 Views : 65Receive Updates For This Category

Last Updated on :
Sep 20, 2016
There is a known issue with the original Apogee ONE (the smaller all-black model, not the iOS version or the newer silver version) where input distortion appears when you are at 48k and using Mac OS 10.12 Sierra. This issue should be addressed in a future update for the ONE software.

Workaround

Don't install the Apogee ONE software. The issue doesn't happen if you don't have the Apogee ONE software installed. You can access almost all of the functionality of the ONE in Audio MIDI Setup, System Preferences Sound, or Logic. If you have already installed the Apogee ONE software, you can run the Uninstaller included in the Apogee ONE software package.

https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209069629-No-MIDI-ports-available-in-Live-after-upgrading-the-Mac-OS

No MIDI ports available in Live after upgrading the Mac OS
Live Versions: 1 - 9
Operating System: OS X
Symptom
MIDI hardware doesn't work anymore in Live after upgrading the Mac operating system or after using Apple's Migration Assistant.
In Live's Preferences → MIDI tab, no MIDI ports are listed.
Live may take a long time to launch.
Reason
A corrupt or incompatible MIDI driver.

Solution
Make sure Live isn't running.
Open the Audio MIDI Setup utility. It can be found under /Applications/Utilities/.
In the Audio MIDI Setup show the MIDI Window.
Click into the configuration chooser and select "New Configuration...".
Close the Audio MIDI Setup.
Start Live again.

If this doesn't help or if the MIDI window does not open in the Audio MIDI utility, it might be necessary to remove all MIDI drivers from the system, for example when the error message "The MIDI Server can't be opened" appears

To do this, navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers and delete all midi drivers contained there
You can also find another method of how to complete this task on this external web site.
http://jnote.org/29
MIDI drivers can be re-installed afterwards.

Verified.

Roland VG-99 and Boss RC-300 work under Sierra provided you do the following:

-Install Sierra
-Verify System is Up and Running

-Download Boss RC-300 USB driver for El Capitan
-Install Driver.
-This requires a reboot afterwards.
-Download Boss VG-99 USB Driver for El Capitan
-Install Driver.
-This requires a reboot afterwards.
-You will then be able to see the VG-99 and RC-300 in audio programs and the editor and librarian resume functioning.

Strangely, the first partition I installed this on it worked fine without needing to reinstall drivers but my main partition required it.  Your mileage may vary.

More on other devices later, have to head off to the day gig.

We seem to go through this deja vu every time either Apple or Microsoft issues a major OS update.  Oddly enough, there is always surprise that some programs or hardware no longer works!  You'd think we remembered the last go-around, right?

You must understand that software and hardware developers cannot see into the future: at some point their design will simply no longer work without a major revision to match a new OS.  This is a normal lifecycle event, not the fault of Apple or Microsoft.  While the developers do have a chance to test and revise the product with a new OS alpha or beta, they usually don't arrive at a stable solution right away.

Even though we all should know this by now, there seems to be a need to complain every time!  Yes, I feel frustration when my 10-year old hardware is no longer recognized or supported by the new OS - welcome to the fast-moving world of technology!  How many of you still run around with a 10-year old phone?  I'm not condoning it, but it is definitely the new paradigm.

There is another option, by the way: go back to analog interfaces and tape!  That is of course until the tape manufacturers stop making the stuff...... ;D

GB, that's why I choose gear that doesn't *need* a computer, even though it can work with one. My VG-99 and GR-55 don't need to be hooked up to a computer, but it's great that we can do it. I don't want guitar gear that relies on a computer. I'm disappointed that there are some parameters on my amps that you can't adjust without a computer (like modeled sag and bias), but really glad that everything inside my VGs and GRs is reachable via the device's own controls.

Ableton Live 9
Ableton Live 9 Lite
Reaper v5.24 [I know there's an update, haven't had time to update yet]
T-Racks CS 4.71 [blows away serialization, you must re-authorize]
Izotope RX 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 etc
Capo v3.4
Mobius v2.0
Fidelia v1.65

Audio Hijack Pro v2.11.6 [Instant On currently incompatible with Sierra]
Audio Hijack Pro v3 [Instant On Compatible with Sierra - since v2 is no longer in development it's the end of the line for v2 users]
[I use this software in an unconventional manner - when I put audio for distribution on the internet online I purposely degrade it somewhat I placing it on my private server then stream it from that server through to audio hijack and capture the result and the somewhat degraded result is what you hear when you hear my music on reverbnation or the like.  When people buy my music online say through bandcamp, they get the full range high quality file - this gives people an incentive to buy the nicer sounding higher quality file - I'm not sure it's successful but I do this process as a test more than anything else..]

I've got more hardware to test but am having oral surgery today so have to go attend to that in a bit.  Joy.

Agree...I look in my forgotten gear trunks, and when its something like an old EH pedal or roland VB or 1080 synth unit its cool to fire it up and get some new sounds. But there seems to be an awful lot of old interfaces and computer hardware/computer dependent stuff that I can never use...and hurts to throw away because it was $$$ at the time.
