Have you seen  / read about the Antares ATG system?

It does work with Fretless and Henrik and Dr Andy at Antares understand the needs for fretless guitar.

the floor ATG-1 might be the best path , as it offers a bit more capability than the internal kit described by Dweezil Zappa below. He used it on his recent album

Dweezil's Fretless Gibson SG with Antares ATG Luthier kit installation

Dweezil Zappa wrote>
QuoteI've been waiting over a year for this instrument to be completed. It is a unique custom guitar specially built for me. It is a fretless SG made by Gibson that includes 2 very important modifications. The first is Auto Tune for guitar by Antares. This micro computer device processes each string individually with extremely low latency and can not only keep your guitar in tune; it can instantly tune the entire instrument to other tunings, open string chords and more. In fact it can process each string individually twice, allowing for 12 string sounds or even baritone 12 string. Most importantly however is the fact that since this particular guitar has no frets it will enable me to do some physically impossible things. Typically a fretless guitar would be impossible to use for chords. Anteres Auto Tune will allow me to play chords on fretless guitar and venture into new musical territory. This is very exciting and inspirational! I anticipate pedal steel type harmony slides and other unique chordal sliding techniques to develop. But that's not all...

The other component of this guitar that will propel me in new territory is the Sustainiac. It will allow for infinite sustain with the ability to switch between the fundamental and other partial harmonics.

What does this mean?

I can control the octave of the feedback generated and I can slide the notes on the guitar smoothly without effortless sustain. This will all translate to many new creative approaches to lead guitar for me. There are so many variations of dynamics to be developed.

The first chapter will be written on this new album. I have 2 instrumentals I plan to use the guitar on. One is currently called "Truth" and the other is called "Funky 15." The titles may change by the time the record comes out. One thing is certain though, this guitar will be a big part of the sound of those 2 songs. I anticipate a whole new melodic style to develop over the next few years. A more vocal approach to melodies and some totally unique tones. For me this feels like the equivalent of walking on the moon.

In any case, I'm very excited about the record and all of the cool things I've been able to incorporate into it. I've got live string quartet and brass and woodwinds (recorded by Geoff Emerick), special vocal appearances from some extremely talented people (To be named later!) and I even have my wife Megan, my daughters Zola and Ceylon as well as my step daughter Mia all singing some background parts on the song "On Fire."

I can't wait to share the record with all of you! The countdown to completion is on! Then we hit the road in March! So much to do and so little time! See you on the road!

An Epiphone Les Paul with Auto-Tune electronics that tie to the guitar controls?  Very cool.  Who did that mod?

Above represents what I ordered

I have custom plans for these parts   - but this weekend I'm going to toss the above into an old Variax 500 Body & neck I purchased for $100 - as my Antares ATG DSP  test pig

If you need a  LP Style PU Selector  - order separately this one instead
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330785843180
NEW - 4-Pole Toggle Switch, On-On-On, 12 Terminals

or

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141320996137?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

( above switch is superior to the bulky problematic import Switchcraft PU selector Switch you get when you order "LP style 3 -way switch" from Antares

BTW - I suggest Order the Gibson Spaced "LP WIDTH Hex PU" - finally we have a source for the Shadow Gibson Spaced Hex PU - and that PU can be adapted to the GK-3 or Fishman Tripleplay

I spoke with Henrik at Antares
When you take delivery of your ATG Internal Kit register and log in with  your Antares account - you gain access to the Antares ATG Preset Manager with "Luthier Controls Enabled" - and this allows you alter the ATG DSP board to your preference.

I'm installing Antares Internal DSP Luthier Kit inside one of these
Traveler Sonic L-22  (these are relatively new) and typcially go for $375

Despite the looks - its a full size 24 3/4" Gibson scale and reports of a "deeper than typical Neck profile" is very desirable for me. ( I love Fat necks)
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SonicL22

I scored my "new" Traveler Sonic L-22 on Ebay from a music dealer who cant repair a loose tone pot - so he marked it down with a "buy it now" $220 with free shipping. I figure this Traveler Sonic L-22 neck has to be fatter than the "too thin for me" Peavey AT-200

My plan is route the L22 body to make room for the ATG KIT+ GK-3 KIT and i will rewire the whole guitar - might even install a tremolo (I'll report my progress  - but this work will not start until October 5th  due to prior commitments.

Small  and portable  = it will get played more,  and this model will be perfect for the ATG Kit i ordered with 5 way blade PU selector , Gibson Bridge Width Mag Hex PU - cant wait to break out the router on this one.

I'll find a way to make this all fit! -( probably remove the existing preamp &  9V battery holder)  and use that area for ATG Battery  - or third party 4.5V -5V rechargeable battery ( old cell phone battery might work

- use the stock control cavity for ATG  Dual encoders - keeping in mind not to touch  the center area on the body where the bridge & tailpiece exist.

Brand new for 2015 comes the latest Traveler Guitar, the Sonic L-22 model and a bit of a departure from this great maker too.

For the first time the new SONIC L22 Traveler features a traditional construction along with a headstock but retaining several advanced Traveler Guitar features and all of their legendary build quality. Of course this is also full 24¾ inch scale guitar with a very pleasing and slightly deeper than usual neck profile.

You also get a newly redesigned on board headphone amplifier and pre-amp so you can directly plug in your headphones or your favorite amp and then cycle through clean, boost, overdrive and distortion tones using the custom tap-pot.

The Traveler Sonic L-22 is equipped with two-full sized humbuckers, a 3-way selector, and traditional tuning machines. In addition, the Sonic L-22 includes a 1/8 inch aux-in for connecting an mp3 player so you can play along with your favorite tracks.

A Deluxe Traveler Gig Bag is included and everything is designed so it fits comfortably in an airline overhead compartment.

We like this one! Tone to die for - yes a great sounding and playing guitar with a difference.

This project will be interesting to follow, I have had thoughts about putting a ATG in one of my guitars but never dared. Looks pretty challanging. I hope we'll learn something  :D
But I got more gear than I need...and I like it!

+1.  I'm in the same boat here.  I'll also be interested to hear: does the ATG install add any appreciable weight to the guitar?  I'm even considering something radical, like stripping all of the current electronics (magnetic and piezo) out of my Parker Fly, and running the internal ATG system only.

I ordered the complete Router template set bundle for ATG KIT installation in Les pauls and Strat/Teles

(if you have ever shopped around for good quality router templates - you swiftly understand $99 is a very good deal!
https://transactions.antarestech.com/atgconnect/TemplateOrderForm.aspx

These can be used for other purposes too - like installing other custom electronics - ( GK internal kit, Sustainiac Stealth Pro's, Fernandes Sustainers, Variax conversions, internal Fishman Tripleplay,  etc)

If you have not used a Wood Router before -  if you try to use a high speed router by hand without a proper plexiglass template  and instead try to Route big holes in a nice guitar by hand, masking tape and good hand/eye coordination - you will learn fast that these high speed monsters can get away from you and destroy your guitar under a minute too easily!

whippinpost91850

My kits arrived yesterday. I will decide this weekend if I'll order the templates or just make them myself. I've made many, many. They seem pretty reasonable though and time is valuable

Cute guitar! can't wait to see what you think once you get it

GuitarBuilder

Just scored a new - albeit B-stock - Peavey AT-200 with full warranty for $289 ($10 less than the luthier kit I just got).  It will serve as my test mule.  ;D ;D ;D

Give us report of your opinion of the AT-200

But Remember the "Antares Complete Bundle " firmware (required to obtain all the Alt tunings and PU models of the ATG Luthier kit / ATG-1) is an optional $200 upgrade.

Will do!  I'll get it next week.  I don't have high expectations for the guitar - I mainly want to use it as a test bed.

First Impressions of the AT-200:

I've had a chance to play with it last night - with mixed results.  It definitely could use a good fret leveling and dressing, although it is not unplayable.  Auto-tune works well; it is pretty easy and quick.  I intentionally detuned the guitar to see what it could do; the only issue is having to crank up the amp enough to eliminate hearing the strings acoustically - the same problem as with Variax guitars.  The intonation seemed close to perfect up and down the neck.

My main concern is that there's a fairly dramatic tone change between the raw pickup signal and "Auto-tuned" signal (the volume changes as well).  While the pickups are nothing to write home about (I personally don't like their sound very much), the Auto-tuned signal seems to suffer from high-frequency loss and generally sounds muddier to my ear.  I'll run it through my spectrum analyzer app to confirm any differences.

I don't have the special 8-pin to MIDI adapter cable yet (coming on Friday), so I could not test the computer/iPad interface.  I do have the MIDI Designer Pro app with Auto-Tune for Guitar template.

Another disappointment is having to use a Windows computer for downloads; how about a Mac app, Antares?

I'm thinking of swapping my luthier kit board into it to experiment with the complete bundle.
