Good for roland for fixing bug in the sy-300. I won't however  be doing this fix until it becomes a problem for me. That part about destroying the sy-300 should a power interuption occur while performing the update is kind of scary funny. :-) ''that can't happen, that would be a quadruple failure, it must be instrumentation'' said the apollo 13 flight controller.

Which explains why Roland / Boss in regards to Firmware updates is in a no win situation.

Many folks complain about infrequent firmware updates for Roland / Boss products, yet when they do arrive, many folks are hesitant to install the new firmware at the risk of bricking the product.

In my experience firmware updates go very well, as long as you follow each step by step instructions to the letter.

Last Roland product that had "iffy" firmware update was my VG-88 Rev 2.0 back in 2001

All Roland / Boss firmware updates since then have gone smoothly.

QuoteThat part about destroying the sy-300 should a power interuption occur while performing the update is kind of scary funny. :-)

I have a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and always use it when updating firmware

The latest Roland/Boss gear has a separate boot loader system (BIOS),
so if a firmware update goes wrong, there is still a responsive system loader working on power up.

Not like the older gear, typically pre-USB, where no boot loader was present, and no way to restore a failed update.
