QuoteUsing commercially available LAN (Ethernet, CAT5) cable and the newly-adapted RRC2 protocol, the FC-300 provides both bidirectional MIDI transmission and electrical power supply with one simple connection between VG-99 and FC-300.
Does this mean that you do NOT need to use the FC300 power supply when used with a VG-99 ???

The VG-99 powers the FC-300 via the RRC-2 cable.

The VG-99 powers the FC-300 via the RRC-2 cable.
Yippee-kyyy-aaay !!
That's a +1000 for live use !!
The fewer wal-wart PU's I need to carry and hook up, the better.
I can then assume that when used as a 'stand-alone' midi controller [no RRC-2], that the PU is required.
Thanks,
Yes - or Batteries - the FC-300 runs on "AA" bateries too
I did NOT know that....
I guess it helps to RTFM :)
I just purchased a Roland FC-300 foot controller for my VG-99; Where do I get the RRC2 cable? Do they have it at GC? And does it not come with the FC-300?
Did you get the VG-99 used?
If bought new - the RRC2 cable is in the VG-99 box.

The recent Line6 VDI Ethercon cables do not tangle can work with VG-99 / FC-300 - AFTER you swap out one end for a standard RJ-45 crimp jack.

FC-300 Q & A FAQ (Translated from Roland Japan)
Q. FC-300 cable RRC2 looks like RJ45 plug is used, but what is the highly reliable special plug?
A. Yes, RJ45 plug, high reliability Neutrik made EtherCon type plug is used at the FC-300 RRC2 Input.
EtherCon plug and XLR plug both latch when using, Ethercon provides same type connection as RJ45.
Q. Can any MIDI Program change command be assigned to pedals of the FC-300?
A. Patch mode allows a number pedal to be assigned any value of MIDI program change command.
Q. Can the FC-300 pedal transmit MIDI note on/ off output information?
A. Patch mode allows a number of FC-300 and CTL1 pedal, pedal-2 notes any information can be stored.
Also, more than one pedal notes can be stored as a single pedal to operate only in code (chord) can be printed out.
Q. RRC2 cable can be built to custom length, please tell me specs.
A. A Custom RRC2 cable must have the following specifications please.
* At least five categories (Cat5)
* Less than 15 meters in total length
* RJ45 to Ethercon - Wired Straight cable, not "crossover type".
Q. FC-300 can be connected to cable and what equipment uses RRC2 interface?

Any ethernet cable is fine, i use 2m patch leads cos they're v cheap and it dont matter when they get left behind at a gig!
Out of curiosity any idea if the cable is crossover or not?
rj45 leads are not crossover, you can buy an adapter for that, but thats a rare occurence for normal usage and not needed for vg99.

Hiya,
I was wondering if Roland sell the rrc2 cable that came with the vg99 separately at all? I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere and I lost mine at a gig a while back. I've been using my left over network cable ever since ::)
Any info would be great. I'm in Australia too. 8)
Thanks.
You can contact Roland in Australia at http://www.rolandcorp.com.au/
They were very helpful when I was chasing information about the internal GK KIT

I use standard RJ45 cable with one of these;

Hello,
Wondering if anyone knows where I could purchase the ethernet cable that comes with the VG-99 to connect to the FC-300 with the special XLR type housing. I have the one I use. Just need a backup and can't seem to find them anywhere. At least none that are already assembled. Thanks.
Nima
Nima,
Any standard computer network cable (Category 5 cable with RJ45 ends) will work. If there's an IT department at your day-job, ask them for a "regular old network cable". They'll, no-doubt, have a drawer full of them. If this isn't an option, RadioShack/BestBuy/etc... will have what you need.
My FC300 didn't come with one of the cables with the fancy ends, luckily I had several extra network cables lying around already.
hope this helps
dave
Ethernet with XLR housing cables are available from Line 6 dealers - Variax guitars connect to the PODX3 Live with one. Or, you can also buy XLR ends that can be added onto any ethernet cable.
Thanks guys. I knew that a standard ethernet cable worked and I'd been using one for a long time. But I started having all kinds of problems lately. So I tried a couple of other cables to make sure it wasn't my cat5 and still had problems. So I pulled out the one that came with the VG and now I have no problems. So maybe I just ended up having a bunch of faulty cables. I do like the extra protection though.
I did find the XLR ends on amazon for really cheap.
Excellent! And , you're welcome ;D
Roland has a document on this cable, and how to install a Ethercon Plug.
http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manuals/res/1810719/VG-99_l_ethercon_je1.pdf (http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manuals/res/1810719/VG-99_l_ethercon_je1.pdf)
There is a problem using a Line 6 VDI cable, as the VDI cable has two Ethercon connectors - one at each end.
And of course this will NOT fit the rear RRC2 jack on the VG-99
Neutrik Ethercon plugs will work with the FC-300
So find a flexible CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable, and install a Neutrik NE8MC Ethercon RJ45 connector at the FC-300 end.

Good point about the VG end of the cable - I controll my VG via MIDI, so I've never taken a close look at the connector ::)
Does any one know how to get an RRC2 cable? Goes from VG-99 to FC-300 foot controller. Looking for an extra one.
Any computer store.
Also called Cat5 and RJ45

Hello fellow FC-300 users,
My RRC 2 Out cable has decided to not come out of my FC-300. Anybody experience this? Any suggestions?

If the cable is the same as an ordinary CAT5 ethernet cable, ensure the locking clip in the center is pressed all the way down while pulling out the cable.
I think rah3 may be referring to the cable that comes with the FC-300 (or VG-99, I don't remember which unit included the special cable, with the large metal sleeve that locks into the FC-300).
I had the same issue. I searched here for help, but didn't find any info.
The metal sleeve has a release, but there is no way to release the latch on the cat5 cable itself, inside the sleeve.
The latch on the cat5 cable should've been removed by Roland, on the end inside that metal sleeve.
I knew better, and wish I had thought of that before I attached it to the FC-300.
You need to break off that locking clip on the end of the cable, inside the sleeve, before plugging it into the FC.
I had to completely destroy that cable in order to release the clip, and remove it from the FC without damaging the FC.
I hope someone here has a trick I don't know of, but my solution wasn't pretty.
You might want to wait and see if someone chimes in here with a solution before you perform cable surgery like I had to.
Hello!
My RRC2 cable got stuck in the RRC2 input jack of FC300. There is no way to get it out.
I also took the whole controller apart, but it did not do any good..
Any ideas?
Thanks
You push the little tab and it does not release? ???
Exactly :'( !
It releases a little bit, so I can hear the "click" when it locks back in, but the cable does not come out, it just moves for 0,5 cm. :-\
Get a real thin flat head screwdriver and work it in just under the tab that you push. The connector has a slot that the lock goes in, you may be able to get the screwdriver to push the latch out of the slot as you push the tab and the screwdriver in at the same time. Kinda like opening a door with a credit card, if you know what I mean.
Thanks, I'll try!

If all else fails, send to a proper Roland Service Center. I had mine stuck too when a use a generic LAN cable. Luckily mine was still under warranty. It took a month to get the parts from Japan to Singapore. Fyi
Can anyone tell me where I can find a reasonable deal on the unique cat-5 cable that connects the VG99 to the FC-300, and also provides phantom powering?
Thanks,
Hadley
By one of these from Neutrik: http://www.neutrik.com/en/ethercon/ethercon-cable-connector-carrier/ne8mc (http://www.neutrik.com/en/ethercon/ethercon-cable-connector-carrier/ne8mc)
Then get/build a standard ethernet patch/drop cable, break of the security tab and slide the Neutrik assembly over the connector with the removed tab.
Thanks for the tip - I didn't realize the Neutric part was just an add-on cover! Are their some cat-5 cables you recommend (for dependability and lay nicely on the ground)? Thanks again!

Sorry Cat, wrong cable. The mouse is on the other one...
Can the Ethernet cable normally used for the FC300 be used for the Liquid Foot Pro by any chance? Anyone try it?
The FC300 uses a standard Ethernet patch cable pinout with all 8 conductors wired straight through. Any Ethernet patch cable will do. I've used a 25 footer and I suspect a 50 footer would work too. Anything longer may not since power is sent through the cable and the conductors are tiny.
If your pedal calls for a standard Ethernet cable, the FC300 cable or any Ethernet patch cable will work too.
I guess I'll just plug 'er in and see. Any risk of just testing?
I would verify the Liquid Foot Pro requirements.

Expansion Jack A & B
Your controller comes prepared to integrate expansion models and other peripherals that will be developed. The
expansion modules come with instructions indicating the proper wiring configuration. The expansion system was
designed so that you will be able to daisy chain from one device to another, allowing up to 50 devices to be connected to
each other at one time. Clearly this is overkill, but it's the Liquid way.
When connecting multiple LF+ controllers together, please use a standard CAT-5 (Ethernet) cable from one unit to the
next. The signals are NOT compatible with any other manufacturers equipment and should not be used in conjunction
with other equipment unless specifically stated by FAMC. These connectors are not compatible with the LF PRO series
of controllers. This new interface developed by FAMC will support all Liquid products from this point forward.
For more detailed information, please see the "Master / Slave" configurations (Working with Expanders)
But what are you connecting the other end of the Liquid Foot Pro "Expansion Port" Ethernet cable too?
I highly doubt it's compatible with Roland RRC2 gear. (and its definitely NOT compatible with Line-6's VDI (Ethercon) Interface too Remember Roland gear employs CAT5 cables as "RRC2" protocol transport mechanism - RRC2 is comprised of Bi-Directional MIDI data, and Power - not Ethernet. And Yes- its likely you may "fry" some internal power on the Liquid Foot Pro, or the device at the other end of the CAT-5 cable if you do not do more research.
BINGO...what Elantric said!
What you are plugging into on the other end matters. Your LF only supports a protocol developed by FAMC...yes, you can use the Roland cable...but only in applications where the other gear works with your LF...which does NOT included Roland or Line6 gear.
Hi everyone, I've just bought a VG-99 and a FC300. Sounds are great, very impressed. I'm not the most technically savvy person, and I could do with some help please. I can get the FC300 to change patches, but I have absolutely no idea how to get it to accept control messages so that i can switch an effect on or off, set an expression pedal to increase drive level or some other effect parameter.
I've got all the manuals, but can't seem to figure it out. Can anyone point me to a simple guide, or better still walk me through the process step by step.
Many thanks
Mine has been stuck for a few years now.. It is the only problem I have had.. I will try the screw driver thing.. Once I get it out I will replace the dang thing..

Do you have the EDITOR installed on a computer yet? If so look at the ASSIGNs. They let you "assign" a controller to something you want to control. If not you need to get that set up because it is so much easier to do with the EDITOR.
I'm sorry this is too late to help you, but here is an older thread addressing the same issue.

One for A Guitar and one for B Guitar if you are running both.
Sorry people! I solved it quite some time ago and already sold it too :(.
It was an easy fix, I ordered new:
- http://www.neutrik.com/en/data/ethercon/ethercon-chassis-connectors/ (http://www.neutrik.com/en/data/ethercon/ethercon-chassis-connectors/) - not sure about the exact model, but once you open your fc300, you will find that out, there are very detailed manual pdfs for each neutral connector
- http://www.neutrik.com/en/data/ethercon/ethercon-cable-connector-carrier/ (http://www.neutrik.com/en/data/ethercon/ethercon-cable-connector-carrier/)
and the ordinary ethernet cable inside. Any electrician can pull this off for you, and parts are also available pretty much everywhere specially with the power of internet.

Hi
After many years with a VG99 I am buying a used FC300. I keep thinking that there was some sort of update to the jack for the RRC2 connector but can't find info on it. Also does anyone know if the RRC2 cable came with the VG99 ? If so, I must have one somewhere.
If memory serves me correctly, it came with the FC300.

You probably do, ericar123. The RRC2 cable is just a standard internet connection cable, often called a "CAT5 cable'

have to use batteries or adapter

My VG-99 arrived yesterday. It came with a power supply for the 99, an FC-300 (no power supply), what appears to be a CAT5 or CAT6 cable, and a RAD-99. I'm throwing out the ethernet cable. I have good quality new CAT6 cables.

========================
1 = RCV_1
2 = RCV_2
3 = +5VDC
4 = +VREF
5 = +VREF
6 = TXD

8 = GND
SHELL = GND(https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=28.0;attach=820;image)
I had the friendly folks at Altex Electronics in Carrollton Texas make me a pair of 15 foot CAT 5e cables with Neutrik Ethercon on one end and RJ-45 on the other (i.e. custom made RRC2 cable). They charged me $54 for 2 cables (included sales tax). I could have made my own for less than $20 in parts, but don't have the time. Nor do I own an RJ-45 crimping tool.
If anyone is interested in getting one (or the parts, which they sell) you can contact them at:
Address: 3215 Belmeade Dr, Carrollton, TX 75006
Phone:(972) 267-8882
The cat 5e cables are available super cheap at parts express. They are buyout and often odd colors...perfect for gigs to be seen. Here is a 15 foot red one for less than a buck. Parts express has lots of good buyout and clearance items. I have a wholesale acct and use it allot.

Ideally - you should seek a Neutrik Ethercon to RJ-45 cable - like this one

I have used just plain Ethernet cables once or twice to confirm it works, but I still use the one it came with. I love that about the FC300. I get set up the stage so quickly, and only have 2 or 3 cables to keep up with. One power adapter, for the VG-99. One amp. One headless guitar. VG-99 in a laptop bag, the briefcase kind. In & out so easy.
Pedalboard's kinda big, though.
I guess I liked that when I bought it, but realized later that, dang, that's a lot of floor space. Good thing it only has that one cable. That makes it easy to just flip up and out of the way. I leave it plugged in but lean it against the amp when I need to make room for other folks onstage.
Where can I buy original RRC2 cable?
Near impossible
Best to call Roland to place an order in USA

Where can I buy original Roland RRC2 cable?
The official Roland RRC2 cable is typically out of stock for years
But the RRC2 is a standard "Ethercon to RJ-45 CAT-5E cable - wired 1:1 at each end for all 8 connections
replacement RRC2 cable can be ordered - search for
"CAT5E Cable RJ45-Ethercon"

Hi!
I ordered this cable:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/152148531116
Did I ordered a good cable?
It measures 3 meters.
Looks good - since it states:
QuoteThe cable is wired 'Straight through' with pin 1 going to pin 1 etc using metal/plastic shielded RJ45 plugs.
This is really a question...
Does anyone know a website (Amazon?) to get the cable between VG99 and FC-300.
Many thanks
I think this one would do:

I recall buying one from them, and using it, but can't recall with complete certainty that this is definitely the one.

FWIW, I recently purchased a spare FC-300 RRC2 from the above B & H link. I chose a 15ft. cable.
I just want to report that this is a quality item. Reasonably priced (I did have to pay tax because B & H has since set up a fulfillment center in NJ where I live) But, for some strange reason, and I'm not complaining, the site says orders over $49.00 are eligible for free shipping. My order was not $49 it was $29.42 and the shipping was free!

Funny that should come up today. I think my btpa cable has been stomped almost to death. It still worked, last time I was on stage, but the plug end looked so sad. Gotta get a new one.
