Zoom H6 is a favorite "jack of all trades" product

QuoteIt will change the way you think about recording forever.
Here at Zoom we've been building innovative products for the past thirty years. But with the revolutionary H6 six-track recorder, the bar is raised further still. Four interchangeable input capsules – X/Y, MS, Shotgun, and Dual XLR/TRS Combo – make the H6 the ultimate chameleon of the audio world, and its advanced preamps make it the best-sounding one too. Whatever your application – live recording, professional film/video work, live broadcast or electronic news gathering – the H6 can handle it with ease.

The most versatile portable recorder ever.

my favorite function is the VU meter to debug audio levels on my pedal board and work out the best gain staging for my gear.

QuoteIn my search for a compact ultraportable mixer for wired in-ear use I found the Zoom H6 to fit the bill perfectly. It has no eq, but have a HP filter and a simple compressor/limiter. I also ordered a FiiO E3 to utilize the VG's digital out for added routing possibilities. This gives me a handy in-ear monitoring solution for sit-in gigging/jamming.

In use
As I use the main out to loop the signal back into the VG-99 I need the sub outs for my FOH signal. The FiiO uses the digital out to feed a stereo mix to the Zoom H6. I use the Zoom H6 M/S module to capture the stage ambient sound. This leaves two channels for my vocal mic and a mono FOH monitor return. All sources can be panned an mixed on the H6.

Added bonus
You can record your performance for further reference.
I don't use wireless IEMs. I tape a 4.2 mm microphone cable to my GK one for IEM. Affordable wireless is too noisy and prone to dropouts while top-of-the-line still can't beat a cable, but certainly leaves a dent in your economy. ;)

QuoteHad an outdoor gig, on a dry stage, on a rainy day, using the VL3X as a WAH/OD/IEM unit in front of my Boss Katana Head. Sounded great, but the VL3X doesn't like high humid weather. Had to restart the hard way (pulling the PSU) 4 times during a 15 min sound check. It didn't crash during the actual performance, but the GP-10 is back on duty the upcoming Saturday with my Zoom H6 doing IEM services. That combo have yet to fail.

RaSR and yours truly at one of our gigs this summer. Recorded using a Zoom H6 (the mess standing right in front of the drum kit) and a Nokia 808 Pureview. The FOH direct line was mute/non sounding. Vocals are partly direct/microphone. Everything else is from the H6 and the 808. No V-Guitar this time, just a Gibson Joan Jett Melody maker, Blackstar HT20 Head straight to desk (also coupled to the EVH 212 underneath the EVH head for on-stage sound only) and a T-Rex replica.
