early press release ( beta tester)  ( Russia)
http://guitarblog.ru/Positive-Grid-Spark/
POSITIVE GRID SPARK

Positive Grid has announced the Spark home multimedia guitar combo.

Spark translates to the great and mighty, like Spark, and this novelty already prophesies the fame of the Yamaha THR killer , because at a much lower price, Positive Grid has ten cool features. As Comrade Ulyanov-Lenin said: "Flames are ignited from a suit" and the Yamaha dictatorship will be overthrown, like Kerensky's interim government.

(https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fguitarblog.ru%2Fgallery_gen%2F042afc98b2b961e4c0dc44b6766d52ed.jpg&hash=797f30f9a41a0a242afd0ca1ba8fb071427b58e3)
The design of the Spark amplifier looks very stylish and solid, like any other Positive Grid product. The controls are similar to THR,  there is a tuner, and the effects of modulation, delay and reverb are controlled by separate knobs. The power of the amplifier is 40W. As for the functionality ...

(https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fguitarblog.ru%2Fgallery_gen%2F8cc7415da7b235c501431eb42738715a.png&hash=ec5acf2852b26b8d50bb3108b84f45793a192ebe)
Positive Grid Spark allows you to download images of amplifiers and lotions from the Tone Cloud; today, this library contains more than 10,000  patches .
Tone Cloud gets presets created in Positive Grid Bias Amp Bias Pedal applications , including using Tone Matching cloning .

(https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fguitarblog.ru%2Fgallery_gen%2F084f5be75649ee14e9f95a681eae9eb3.jpg&hash=e8512990440c15c2dceead1fb44ee6a1a09b1509)
The amplifier can be controlled by voice commands. Of course, it is not the combo himself who receives the commands, but the smartphone or tablet that controls the amp through the air.

The separate Spark mobile application also lays out any song from iTunes, Spotify or Youtube to chords, displaying them on the screen of a smartphone or tablet. The program dealt with the Blood Group instantly, but on Doo Ter Tam it took half a minute. The application even finds lyrics, and also offers songs with a similar chord sequence. In addition, the application has a game reminiscent of Guitar Hero or even rather Rocksmith and access to huge libraries of video tutorials.

(https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fguitarblog.ru%2Fgallery_gen%2Fa7a9a56c88b7aeb507d6d78f732732ba.jpg&hash=dc4f8d81975724e8607b9f1602dff0614a1063d3)
The Smart Jam application, which should appear in the AppStore and Google Play in the near future, and while it is being moderated, will allow you to create a virtual Rome section, like the one implemented in the Digitech Trio pedal , which adapts to your harmony and style.

In addition, Positive Grid Spark can be used as a USB audio interface for recording to a computer. The combo box comes with the free PreSonus Studio One Prime licensed program.

Does anyone have any experience of this yet or any "hands-on" review?

QuoteDear Spark Power Supporter,

We've heard your questions and concerns related to shipping and would like to provide clear and honest communications so you know what to expect. This message is an update related to your Spark order.

We are a few weeks delayed from our original estimated ship dates that are posted on our website (www.positivegrid.com/spark). Why the delay? The response to Spark has gone way beyond what we anticipated for pre-orders. Your overwhelming interest and support of Spark created a unique situation where we had to make major updates to our original production plan. Those changes created a production delay of a few short weeks. We sincerely apologize for the delay and we appreciate your patience. We are confident you will agree that Spark is worth the slight delay after you receive your Spark order.

Our team has been hard at work through the holiday season to ensure Spark units are shipped as quickly as possible. The original shipping estimate for your Spark order was January 2020. We anticipate your Spark order will ship by the end of February.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let us know by writing to us at support@positivegrid.com.

Thanks again for your continued support and excitement about Spark. We can't wait for you to get your hands on your Spark!

- The Spark Team

Just got this email as a "Group #3 Power Supporter" ( Ordered Nov. 30, 2019 )

Dear Spark Power Supporter,

We're writing to share some updates about your Spark amp and app. As you may know, Spark has been a runaway success, with now over 20,000 pre-orders and a slew of positive feedback from the media, YouTubers and more. In fact, we just unveiled Spark at the NAMM Show in January where it was awarded the "Best Guitar Amp at NAMM" from MusicRadar.

We know you've been waiting for your Spark, and we're sure what you really want to know is, "When will I get mine?" Here's what's happening. The popularity of Spark has exceeded our expectations and the large quantity of orders has resulted in a shortage of an essential component. The good news is we've been able to re-source this component, and our production is back on track. However, this shortage has created a delay past our original estimate for January shipping.

We will be shipping Early Bird and Super Early Bird orders the first week of February. Your order, and those of other Power Supporter purchasers, will follow in the order in which they were received. We anticipate now that you will receive your order by the end of February.

In the meantime, we'll continue to share more news and updates on Spark, and we're excited to get your Spark to you soon. You can follow production updates on our site here.

Sincerely,

The Spark Team

So, in theory, either today or tomorrow someone should actually receive this thing. I ordered at the beginning of november and the anticipation is killing me. I can't wait to hear some reports from people who aren't paid to like it.

Also, I have a plethora of devices I can use with this. Anyone have any insight as to which is best? I have an Ipad air, a bunch of android tablets, various windows machines (probably not supported at all), and a Samsung note 9 and J7.

I would anticipate a buggy first release at this point in the product lifecycle. It would be great to pick the least buggy environment to start off with.

I recall it needs IOS 11 or above  for iPad

the Spark App does not run on Windows

There is one here in UK
https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?posts/29982030/

in USA , Some Early Bird Spark Orders in USA  claim they got a Fedex tracking number last Friday , but diving into details with Fedex shows only a label was created, and they use Fedex Home  - which never delivers on Monday - so I figure Wednesday is when we will hear of anyone receiving a Spark in USA  at the earliest

Great, that it will work with either android or IOS for me. I guess I;ll try both and see which has the better interface and reliability.

So I've played it, really quietly - baby sleeping next room.

sounds pretty good - a bit of fizz but may just be the volume. Cleans good.

Auto track generation didn't work - server error.

So far pretty pleased and quality feels good actually. Knobs smooth turning and solid, switch good and cabinet nice and heavy/solid feeling.Bluetooth connected easily - two step for audio player though.

Good thumbs up, tomorrow I'll turn it up and compare properly.

I've had Spark for 5 days and I'm happier with Spark than with the THR10C - tried them side-by-side and preferred spark. The THR seems scooped to me where the Spark is a bit mid-rangy, I'd like to see an EQ added post-amp or at the end of the signal chain to trim the mids. I like editing with the app, very intuitive and getting some great clean to edge of breakup sounds.

From what I can tell you can't move effects around, and the manual seems to say you can swipe to the side to see what other effects can be loaded into a slot but this isn't working for me. Maybe still some bugs?

Sounds better for bass than the THR10C, but I turned the reverb off in the app and was still getting a little reverb on bass.

MRCHEVY wrote>
Yes, in the effects chain at the top, tap and hold on the effect, then slide up or down to turn it on or off. Tap it twice to open the effects drop down window, scroll to desired effect, then tap desired effect in menu to select. Swipe L/R on effects chain(top) or effect/amp in bottom window, to see all effects and amp in chain.

I received my Spark yesterday (early day 1 order, probably within 30 min of the preorders going live, my order number was 317). I thought I would provide some initial reactions as an educated consumer.

I would not consider this a review of sound quality, and I am not going to demonstrate me playing (you are all welcome). I am not a very good guitarist, and I am not good at dialing in tones, so it would not be a fair review.

What I will do is provide my initial impressions as well as comparative thoughts against the Yamaha THR10ii, which I know many people would compare to the Spark. I owned the original THR10 in the past, and bought the THR10ii while awaiting the Spark delivery with the thought of eventually keeping 1 of them.

Disclaimer: It is brand new, and I certainly don't know all of the ins-and-outs, so I am sure people will find some inaccuracies!

On the positive side:
It is beautiful. Seriously a nice piece of equipment. It is built really well and if you simply looked and touched it you would not be surprised if you were told it was $500+. All of the knobs/switches are top notch and feel very substantial. Really, both the Spark and THR are well built, but overall on the form/quality the Spark is an easy A+ (maybe the THR is an A).
It comes with a USB cable but not an Aux cable (the original THR10 had both, the new THR10ii had neither) as as well as the power brick. I am in the US, so only received the US-type plug as expected.
The app is beautiful looking and super-easy to navigate. It is head-and-shoulders better than the THR app visually, and the Spark has much more configurability than the Yamaha. Changing presets is easier, the number of models/effects is greater, and Spark has built-in jamming tools that don't exist with the Yamaha. The 1 thing Yamaha has that Spark does not is the capability to change cabs (at least to my early knowledge).
Did I mention it is beautiful? (While I do like the appearance of the THR, I think the Spark looks even nicer.)
It sounds very good, full and rich. I don't want to say great, because as mentioned I am not good at dialing in tones, and my playing is even worse! But the presets are significantly better sounding "out of the box" than Yamaha's presets. Also, the output level of each preset is much more consistent than Yamaha's levels (which has been a complaint on the Yamaha thread). Changing presents in the Spark does not cause sudden volume spikes, at least in the ones I've used so far. With the Yamaha, some are soft, others are very loud. Of course, you can edit, but this is just early impression stuff.
It actually pushes air. I had it sitting very close to me for a while yesterday and noticed it pumping air onto my hand as I played.
It is bigger/heavier than the THR, and sounds like a larger and more powerful unit. It is definitely louder, and cleaner when turned up. I've not yet really cranked it up, but you won't be disappointed with volume.
The interaction between the amp and controller (I use an iPhone X) is solid. Switching presets is quick. There is a very slight pause, but it does change presets faster than the THR.

Now, some of the shortcomings:
I am finding that I have to connect the app and the Spark every time I power on. I've not yet determined if this is by design, a bug, or even mandatory in the way Apple apps work. I've not used Spark with an Android device yet. To be fair, the THR has similar connectivity requirements. This could also very well be user error. Plus, in experimenting, I've been in-and-out of apps, connecting back-and-forth between Spark and THR, etc.
I have had a few app disconnections and have also had to power cycle the Spark a couple of times. It seemed to have frozen up, but it could have been user error again.
Having only iPhone/Android apps is a pretty substantial downside in my opinion. The THR offers the phone/tablet apps as well as Mac/PC apps. I generally use the Mac app and find it a much better experience. My wife has an iPad and I've used the iPad app with the THR, but have yet to try the Spark via iPad, I am sure it will be better than the phone app (easier own the eyes, easier to adjust).
I can't stand the tiny headphone volume knob. Yes, small detail, but it is really tiny and when you have cables plugged in, not the easiest to use.
While on the topic of size, I hate the small 1/8" headphone jack. The new THR also has an 1/8" jack, and I very very very very much preferred the 1/4" jack on the original THR.
I only used the tuner 2x, but it seemed to be laggy and not overly responsive. Could have been user error, but getting in and out of the tuner caused me to have to reboot the amp on 1 occasion.
Finally, here's what might be my biggest problem with the Spark because I enjoy experimenting with 3rd party amp sims such as Scuffham S-Gear and Helix Native. I have yet to figure out how, or if, I can use Spark as an interface. Don't get me wrong, I am able to connect it to my Mac and get sounds and I am able to record using Garageband. However, it does not seem to function as a plug-and-play interface like the THR does, and the sounds I do get are very very noisy. I will say that this is very likely my fault in not knowing what to do, but the THR has definitely been a better experience relative to being an interface. When I plug in the THR I see a 2in/2out device in the Mac Audio App. When doing the same with Spark I see 2 separate devices, one being 1in and the other being 2out.

I am sure there is more, both positive and negative, but this should keep all of you busy for a while!

People will pick apart different amps, and likely compare Spark to the THR, Katana, Katana Air, Vox Adio, and others. At $300, this is a seriously strong competitor. You really can't go wrong. If you are an early-bird and paid less, all the better!

Oh, did I mention it is beautiful?

The Spark Amp Walkthrough | Exploring the Amp and the App | Positive Grid

In this video, Steve Stine shows you how the app works (with screenshots) with the new Spark Amp from Positive Grid, as well as explanations of the features of the amp itself.

Check out the amp HERE:
http://bit.ly/2He0m23

I used the following sounds on the demo:
Intro: Default Channel 1 tone (recorded in stereo)
Crunch: Modern Stone and British Accent presets
Heavy: Heavy Axe and Dual Train presets
Solo: Steve Stine Lead preset
(some of these sounds will need to be downloaded from the ToneCloud, which is part of the app).

On Ebay? I guess there will always be people who exploit pre-orders or other limited supply and the enhanced demand that comes with it but it bugs me. Leave scarce commodities to those who actually want them, don't just exploit the opportunity to make a quick buck.

OK, I have to call BS on Positive Grid's marketing of this amp. On the pre-order site, they list, for instance on the last chance buy, 3544 of 3600. The thing is yesterday it said 34xx of 3500. The other 2 categories with the add-on products have been similarly incrementing the available number. They have been doing this every day since I first looked at it a few weeks ago (other than when I placed my own order in the beginning of November). They are artificially creating a sense of urgency simply by lying about the total available. This, combined with the constant pop ups saying Joe Schmo from Kalamazoo just bought one is about the sleeziest marketing I've seen from a gear company in a very long time.My confidence that they are telling the truth about the shipping estimates is near zero.

^ Nothing new - they are following their playbook
( Must have missed the BIAS Head marketing Hype a few years back)

No doubt a new twist is recent world events and imposed quarantines near portions of their component supply chain have introduced additional new delays

This is impacting many other big name M.I. manufacturers too.

Interesting. Had I seen that Bias head hype I probably would not have bought the Spark. Deceptive marketing bugs me on a fundamental level. The fallout from that for me is if they claim a legitimate delay from the Corona virus I not inclined to believe them. Of course, they couldn't care less what I believe anyway so I may as well just STFU and deal with it.

I ordered Nov 30, 2019 - apparently I'm in the Group #3  "Power Supporter"
Details
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=26872.msg200240#msg200240

These adhere to the "just in time " contract manufacturing paradigm - Positive Grid does not stock all the parts to build these amps, and relies on M.I. Contract manufacturer, and many have been slowed down this past month.

So I now expect another month delay ( April 1) due the corona virus shutting down several supply chain factories, and add the "slow boat from china" delivery to a west coast harbor in USA , then travel to a USA Midwest shipping depot

Dear Spark Power Supporter,

You may have heard that many manufacturers are experiencing production delays due to component and assembly shortages over the past month. We are no different. Please rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to increase Spark production to keep up with its massive demand.

Despite these delays, we can report that all Super Early Bird and Early Bird orders have now shipped, and we are receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from those new Spark owners. We wish we could ship all Spark orders right now, because we can't wait for you to try Spark!

We do not take delays lightly, and we know that you don't either.
Based on the latest information from our production team,
we will be shipping Power Supporter orders throughout March and April. All orders will ship based on when the order was placed.

When your Spark amp ships you will receive an email with tracking information.

You can follow shipping updates and other information at https://www.positivegrid.com/spark#updates

Thanks so much for your continued support and patience.

Sincerely,

The Spark Team

Question.  This is being marketed as "full range".  Does that mean it's FRFR?  Is this capable of being a low-power bedroom amp for the VG-99/SY-1000?  Seems like the speakers are too small to serve that role.  I've been looking for something that can handle all frequencies but isn't as overpowered as a headrush.  Doesn't seem like anything is really in that segment other than going in through USB to a DAW and monitoring through near-field monitors.

I plan to try this when I get mine with the GR55, GT100, Mustang floor, and computer. It has AUX in so only needs appropriate adapter.

Title: Re: Positive Grid "SPARK" Smart Practice Guitar Amp & App.
Post by: dsmmrm on April 24, 2020, 07:49:05 AM
Got mine last Friday. Been playing with it for a week now. I like it a lot. It meets or exceeds my expectation, which were for a good sounding practice amp. I have a number of other amps, both tube and modeler and a headrush pedalboard with 2 HR FRFR08 speakers that I gig with. I am not judging this amp by comparing it to them, it is a different animal.

some observations:

Sounds great when you spend a little time dialing it in. The hardware presets pretty much suck. I'm still not sure why manufacturers don't spend more time getting usable presets instead of just making sounds that show off the feature set.

Getting more/better sounds from the cloud is a hit or miss proposition. Sure, there are thousands of them. For every one that sounds halfway decent there are 10 that sound like a tone deaf monkey was playing with the knobs. I found it far easier to get decent tone tweaking manually in the app.

The app. When it stays connected it is very cool. I have used it both with an IPAD and an android phone. I prefer the ipad because the interface works well in landscape orientation. The spontaneous disconnections happen at about the same frequency in both environments.

It  sounds good as a bluetooth speaker. Those that wonder if it will be a decent FRFR option for other devices like a GR55 or VG99 I think will be pleasantly surprised.

The backing tracks are cool. There are quite a few in various styles. You can't change the key of existing ones but that's to be expected, I guess.

The create a jam thing is...Promising? It feels half baked and can only give you useful output if you stick to the simplest of chord progressions. Hopefully this will be fleshed out further.

It can get pretty loud but more importantly for its intended purpose, it sounds really good at low volume. I have no need to have it keep up with a drummer, I have other gear for that. This thing does exactly what I bought it for.

I will be using the USB interface with Cubase 10 starting later today. If it works like it's supposed to no additional commentary is warranted. If not, I'll let you know.

I knew going in this would be marginal

the PG Spark Firmware instructions are here
https://help.positivegrid.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038685111-How-To-Update-The-Firmware-on-Spark-

they state:
*3. Download and launch firmware update tool:

Windows: unzip and launch the "Spark Firmware Updater Win x.x.xxx.zip" file
Mac: unzip and launch the "Spark Firmware Updater OSX x.x.xxx.zip" file*

I go here for the Latest firmware FW 1.1.3.18
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tFM2L9UEjf-qxVe6wZibFOzZdFkOCeRj

I Unzip only to find that Neither are labeled Win or Mac nor 1.1.3.18 and there is NOT a *.BIN file to be found anywhere - typical of other products FW release
there is "Spark Firmware Updater.EXE" - which must the the Windows update utility - but there is not the typical FW *.BIN File, and the other file is
"Spark Firmware Updater.app" which must be the Mac App
on Windows when I  launch the "Spark Firmware Updater.EXE" had a hard time connecting - had to re-power the AMP before the Amp would be recognized - but it finally dod, I clickked apply the update, the firmware updater froze after 20 seconds - Windows error message saying the "Spark Firmware Updater2.EXE" app has stopped

So no functioning FW Updater on Windows 8.1

Also I feel I was lied to as the USB Audio is only 1 Left Mono Channel Out from Spark Amp - Will not record Stereo via USB -

Reaper DAW only shows Spark as a 48KHz 1 input , 2 output Audio device

Why are you shipping a product which does not match the 8 month old PG Spark Specification Sheet?

Just a bummer that USB Audio Out is only Mono for recording

But it does receive Stereo USB Audio at 24 bits 48kHz

Have to admit - this thing sounds wonderful !! and actually was worth the wait

Many of the SPARK app Backing tracks are sourced here -
Elevated Jam Tracks
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqAZJmEC2-C9roOB4vgzROA/videos
but when used with the SPARK APP , you get matching chord charts that follow along with each tune
https://youtu.be/LWUEr-v3nh0

Thanks to Bluetooth 5.0 The Spark App synchronizes and compensates for any Bluetooth Audio Latency vs Video timing delay ( like many smart video player apps already do)
(A/V Sync)
https://www.reviewgeek.com/38434/why-do-bluetooth-headphones-lag-while-watching-video-or-gaming/

It gets plenty loud, Backing tracks are loud ( use the top Music Volume Knob to adjust USB Audio, Rear Aux input Audio, and Bluetooth Audio
and the large OUTPUT Volume knob on far right controls everything

and of course spin the far left AMP Type knob full clockwise to Metal , and crank the Master and Output to max - and SPARK is nearly as loud as a Vox PathFinder 15R - louder than i could play at a few recent gigs with my tube amp

And the internal speakers NEVER flap / fart or spoil the fun

Now if they could do a firmware update to get it to work with the Positive Grid Blueboard remote footpedal, could be fun -

Swiftly Changing presets between the 4 Preset buttons on the top of the amp while still playing guitar results in a 250 millisecond gap of silence between patches

But I'm already connected via USB and getting loud stereo audio from all Windows Audio player apps, Youtube, and it sounds better than one of those $400 Marshall Stanmore II Bluetooth Stereo Speakers

(this is review of 1st release SPARK 40 firmware May 2020
My only Spark Amp complaint is the effects signal chain is set in stone , can not alter the effect order, so cannot place the Spring Reverb 1st in the signal chain - necessary to get vintage Surf Tones - its stuck in a 1980's idea of correct signal chain and zero allowable deviation From this

Noise Gate Pedal > Compressor Pedal> Booster / Drive Fuzz Pedal > Amp / CAB Sim > Modulation Pedal >Delay > Reverb

No Stereo Effects - All sounds are mono only - explains why there is only one "
" Left USB Audio Channel 1) available as Audio Source Input in Reaper DAW app,

Its essentially an update to the the effects and Amp Modeling of Positive Grid's JamUp Pro (which is also Mono only) , there are no alternate Cabs, Each Amp type has a specific Cab Model associated with it,  and no ability for user to change the Cab type, no third party Cab IR Loading  - but PG SPARK AMP sounds good out of the box.
Its a nice looking 2 x 20 watt dual 4" speaker amp and very loud and clean + the Spark App (IOS/Android)  makes practicing fun

Quote from: Ringleader42, post: 30497929, member: 62769Huh, that is confusing given their stated specs as 2x2. Wonder what happened there. And then I'm assuming the physical aux in doesn't route to the USB audio stream, probably just to the internal speakers/headphones?
The only Stereo occurring is from the external signal feeds
* Stereo USB Audio Input,
or
* Stereo Rear Aux Input,
or
* Stereo Bluetooth Audio Input

You get only one of the above at a time

None are routed to the USB Recording out, only one mono channel which represents the Internal Jamup Pro level  Guitar FX/Amp Modeling , and the SPARK AMP ToneCloud presets I recognize as being the same as the legacy of  8 years worth of Jamup Pro (IOS) Tonecloud presets
( They do not want to kill their BIAS FX2 business model)

Multiple external audio sources are not possible  - So Not possible for mixing Aux IN + USB In, or Aux in + Bluetooth Audio In - Only One at a time , all controlled by a common small "MUSIC VOLUME" knob near headphone jack  and all are only fed to the internal Stereo Speakers, or Stereo Headphone out , which mutes the internal speakers
( I smell a simple mod I'll implement soon to allow simultaneous Internal Speakers and Headphone Out as a DI Output  )
and the large OUTPUT Volume knob on far right controls everything

QuoteI see you've been busy, but if you have a chance to see it if is recognized as an audio interface by iOS with a powered USB3 adapter or CCK/powered hub that would be great.

Gathering my USB adapters now!

Steve, glad to see you finally got it, and already cracking it open  :o :) After reading your thoughts and impressions on it, and the USB thing, I'm kinda glad I canceled my Spark order and took advantage of the Bias FX2 Elite special they had @$179.00. After comparing the abilities between the two, when I started thinking and really looking thru the app, I knew I would be happier with the software as I have plenty of options to amplify it, and wasn't disappointed. Fully customizable signal chain, dual amp capabilities, tons of amps, effects, cabs, etc.. I just do to much stuff with stereo. It sounds like from your descriptions that it is a nice amp though. Congrats!

There's a very active Spark modding community online, and people have devised various tweaks and improvements to it, including ways to address the bass‑heavy response.
The Spark Amp Mods Facebook group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/241616417119881
already has over 11,000 members at the time of writing, and people have experimented with different speakers, added a line out and created a downloadable custom programme to build a Bluetooth‑compatible switcher, which controls the four channels and pedals (https://github.com/happyhappysundays/SparkBox).

The grille is held on with Velcro and thus easy to remove, which makes stuffing the port and damping the cabinet a quick‑win modification.
One aspect of the Spark's design is really handy if you want to tame the bass: as the front grille is held on with velcro, you can pull the grille off to access the bass port and speakers. Simply stuffing the bass port (you need only stuff a piece of sealed‑cell foam or even a sock in there) removes plenty of the 'fake octave' it generates, and instantly makes things sound a bit less boomy. Partially filling the cabinet with wadding will damp the resonances even further. To do this, I used some polyester packaging that came with a food delivery, but you can buy wadding on Amazon and elsewhere. All of this is all easily reversible, too.

If you're feeling braver, you could experiment with a capacitor soldered between the positive terminal of each speaker and the appropriate cable. This will act as a simple high‑pass filter, thus turning down the bass; the filter's turnover frequency depends on the value of the capacitor you choose.

Speaker swapping is another possibility, since the Spark's four‑inch drivers are a standard shape. Some modders, for example, have tried installing various four‑inch dual‑concentric car‑audio drivers, which include a dedicated tweeter, in order to extend the treble response. If you go down this road, it's worth remembering that using less sensitive speakers than the stock ones will result in a lower overall volume coming from the amp.
