Title: VG-99 - Why can't I print the PDF manual?
Post by: Bryan on August 09, 2013, 07:47:40 PM
I save the PDF file abs try to print. The progress bar moves a bit but never reaches 100%. It just freezes then tells me document cannot be printed.

I can't convert it to a .doc file because it is "password protected"

So how do people print this?

I have had no problems printing PDF manuals,
they are protected to stop editing, screen capturing, or converting them,
but printing should be fine.

I've had issues trying to print large PDF's in the past too.  See if it works any better if you only print 10 pages at a time.

I tried breaking it up. For some reason after page 12 it gives me an error and won't print.

Are you downloading the PDF to your computer and attempting to print THAT file, or are you trying to print from a version you are viewing on another site?

Is the page size of the original PDF compatible with the page size setting(s) of your printer?
...it's not that page 13 is (say) an A3-sized schematic or something?

Can you view the entire PDF on your computer after you have downloaded (and saved) it?

Follow these tips to print large PDF files

= Always download the entire file first to your local physical hard drive

= Do NOT print from your Web Browser - use Adobe Acrobat Reader, or equivalent PDF Viewer app.

= Be sure you are printing to a hardware printer, and not accidentally having your default printer set to  "Print to PDF"  - as this will clobber and hang most large Acrobat file print jobs - and cause the print progress bar to never go past 50%, and just hang.

Another option is to upload it to FedEx and use their print service to print a nice customized manual (black and white only to save money)

I did the first two.

I'm using a network copier to print the manual but ill check the printer settings tomorrow.

I print many PDF manuals from a network photocopier at work, it's a Konica-Minolta C450, great for laser printed A3 colour band posters too   ;D

I set it to booklet mode and print on A3 paper which does the 4 pages per sheet when the print job is folded in half to A4 (letter) size and stapled down the middle.

The PDF document does need to be a hard copy on your computer and printed from Adobe Acrobat Reader as Elantric has mentioned.

Paper size may be an issue, you may need to force the printer settings into the paper size you have (A4 vs Letter) .

Ha!

You & I do exactly the same stuff  ;D   ...including continually fighting A4 vs Letter...
...except I have the further daily battle with Fuji-Xerox as well.. :P

Well I gave up the A4 fight and uploaded it to FedEx. It cost a bit more ($30 vs about $10) but it'll be done and bound when I get it so I figure paying for less stress is worth it.
