Roland GK "Snooper"
« on: April 20, 2013, 12:02:00 AM »

Our recent new member "mitsubamushi" is from Japan and has created a DIY test board for exploring Roland GK-3 interface.

He's a clever guy

Google Translation - but you get the idea!

-GK Snooper 2004/06/12 Symbol

GK Snooper ... it Takagi Mr. GK Vara Box You experimental tool was created for verification when making.
Useful things that can be input to and output from the yo like each line has been in the middle branch of the input and output of the 13pin.
In other words, play various input and output of the VG of ... GK (^ ^)

Currently, the borrowing during the courtesy of Mr. Takagi.
I am allowed to entertain various <(__)>
Introduction Since I had also authorized the publication.

Circuit diagram had you sent from Takagi. Do not are you want contact with the Tap terminal by branching between To VG and To GK of DIN 13Pin.

I see from above. Height about 4cm in length and breadth as the size 10cm.

I see from DIN 13pin terminal side. Foundation Na are you a two-layer structure.
Feel the challenge of GK work up privately were not we implement to the base of DIN 13pin terminal.
To're overcome by means legitimate user creates a dedicated base it head to decrease the <(__)>

The back like this. Simple (^ ^)

The contents of GK wiring is written in each Tap terminal.
No. 1 pin = 1 string from lower left, and the second pin = 2 string, third string pin = 3, No. 4 pin = 4 string, fifth string pin = 5, No. 6 pin = 6 string, seventh pin = Normal guitar pickup.
No. 8 pin = GK volume from the upper left, No. 9 pin = no connection, No. 10 pin = S1 SW, 11 number pin = S2 SW.
Grand 13th pin and 12th pin = +7 V, =-7V from the right on.

Expansion of Tap terminal. Na its over he is used to hook the probe of the oscilloscope.

This input and output wiring that I have prepared. Pin female pin that you have processed the surplus.

Do not are you using Hook to the Tap terminal by bending the ends of the wire.
plans to make the wiring of small alligator clip expression Izure.

Like this when using. Usage Notes I wonder if that place you do not want to stimulate the terminal of the power supply to ... accidentally?

-------
• 1st  string (high E) Signal Tap from GK 2004/06/12

Accessory you have decided to produce it is inspired by the GK Snooper above.
I just wire the pin terminal to terminal 1 of the string for GK.
It's simple but quite useful (^ ^)

1 string you are back. Foreground terminal conversion of standard phone and pin.

--

· Ver.2 1 string you mentioned 2007/02/24

The expansion the S1/S2 SW terminal to one string you above!
Now to Yo can manipulate the S1/S2 SW outside foot SW!! (Laughs)
It's easy, but also this quite useful (^ ^)

Terminal has been increased one per string Kimi why.

For more information tool material reference.

More cleverness too!
Using the same cable created above, here he is using a VG-8 with a Normal Guitar to feed pin #1 on the GK-13 Input, and has added two footswitches for remote GK "S1" and "S2" .

Also these help add new expression on Bass.

For explanation of the GK13 pins and signals see this thread

Clever indeed.  The first copy of the Tony Levin "Funkfingers" I've seen and he seems very talented at electronic exploration.  I look forward to seeing the results of his experimentation.

...about Takagi schematic...
if you use one VG for two Gk, maybe works... if you use one GK for two VG/GR, will be confllict between two power suply from two VG/GR, you must disable the power suply pins for the tap conection...
 my 2 cents...

Its not a GK "Y" adapter, or US-20  / GK4P replacement.
It's simply a GK 13 pin breakout box signal Snooper  -  insert the GK Snooper between one guitar with GK-3 and one VG-99 (or GR-55), it allows a hobbyist to use the signal area labeled "Tap" to explore the purpose of and measure each of the signals,Control Voltages, power rails contained in the Roland 13 pin interface. Nothing more, nothing less.

Can help serve to debug problems, like the old known bugs with early Ghost and RMC GK Volume Pot problems when used with a Roland US-20,
See  Re: Volume bleed through even with knob turned to zero
http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=434.msg1906#msg1906

or hook an oscope and compare the relative signal voltage peak to peak gain levels of the GK2A preamp vs. GK-3 preamp. Or create a signal tap for the normal guitar pickup on pin7.

I keep a spare Roland US20 around just to use in a similar manner as a GK13 Signal snooper  on my test bench.
