zebra:
Hi.  I am totally new to the VGuitar world.  This looks like a great forum and I look forward to exploring the site.

I have a Breedlove Mark II Electric Guitar.  It has Lollar Imperial Humbuckers and the RMC Synergy pickup system built in.  Currently, I use the humbuckers into a Mesa Boogie Triaxis and a TC Electronic G-System.  When I want an acoustic sound I use the RMC piezo output of the guitar into a Rane AP-13 acoustic preamp.  All of this gear sounds really good but I am tired of dragging around an 8-space rack and a pedal board.  I am ready to try the 13 pin out of my guitar but I am not sure whether to go down the VG-99 path or the GR-55.  I am also wondering if either of these can sound as good as my analog and tube gear, especially since my friend, who uses a Boss GT-10 directly into the house mixer, never gets tone as good as mine.

I would appreciate any advice or thoughts.
Thanks,
zebra

Welcome to the group zebra!  :)

Welcome indeed!  Maybe if we heard some recordings of your existing setup we could figure out if you could get "in the ballpark" the GK way.

Jim Williams:
Zebra, I too am having gear issues but I have the gear you are inquiring about. I have both a VG-99 and a GR-55 and you may give up a little tone for convenience. The difference between the two is the VG is a guitar modeling processor and the GR is a Guitar Synth. I you are a guitar Player who doesn't want synth sounds then the VG is the way to go. The GR has a mini GT-10 in it but it is quite limited. Both take some EQ magic to make the amp models believable however it can be done. I have posted some of my patches on this site with MP3's and if you listen to them you can get a better idea of what both units will sound like through the PA. They were recorded direct to Reeper so what you here is what you get.

Hi. Thanks for the replies.  I listened to the mp3 posts and several of them sound like what I am looking for.  Thanks for posting those.  I particularly liked the MS Gold, Superstitious and the Match and Brass sounds.  We have 3 guitarists in our band - 1 acoustic and 2 electrics.  I play rhythm electric while the other electric does the leads.  I need warm clean tones and fat crunch or high gain tones that have good sustain.  I will try to get some clips up as soon as I can.  I don't have recording equipment at home but I can have a recording made of me where I play out.

As fun as it would be to have the synth sounds, getting the best guitar tone is my top priority.  If the VG-99 is best at that perhaps it is the better choice for me.  Is there a way to get sounds like organ, piano or strings using a VG-99?
