I have the VG99 hooked to a notebook running Forte with vst synths.  I would like to sync tap tempo. I don't care if the VG or Forte is the source but I do need help to set this up. Ideas?

You could try to use Tap inside Forte. Download it here:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jez.price/effects.htm scroll down until you find Tap 1.2

You could assign the same button as a tap source for both the VG99 and for Tap. If you need help setting this up, just let me know.  I can give more details later...

Thanks sixeight. However, Forte already has tap tempo built into it. The problem is that the "tapped" tempo is not always interpreted the same in Forte vs. the VG99 resulting in the two units marching to slightly different drummers (even though they are both getting the same tap information). So, what I would like is to use a MIDI command of sorts to synchronize the two units to work off the same tempo. I don't really care if the VG99 is the clock source or if Forte is the clock source but it seems that I should be able to use MIDI to have one unit drive the clock of the other unit. I'm fairly new to MIDI so advice about how to do this would really be appreciated. Thanks!

To get the VG99 to sync with forte I guess all you have to do is goto System - Midi and change the clock sync on the first page to Auto (USB)

I don't have Forte, so I can't check whether it sends the Midi clock information automatically, but most DAW's do this by default.
