Crystal - An Icy Lead (modified 6/12/11)
« on: March 16, 2011, 08:05:14 PM »

My favorite solo sound at the moment, a VG99 creation I've evolved over the last few weeks.

I run this thru my guitar amp with only some gain on the amp.

I place these side by side in the VG99, so my S1/S2 easily let me flip back and forth (and in addition, continue to perform all patch changes).

6/12/11:  I've updated these to try & bring the levels more in sync with more common usage on this forum.   It took some experimenting, but here is round 2...

hey shawnb, thanx for contributing.  I tired you patches out but found them unusable.  just seemed really noisy which only gets amplified by the delay.  so I'm wondering if you are using a gk-3 with these or what your gk settings might be as they're very sensitive to me?   anyone else experience this or is it just me?

A to the T - Thanks for the feedback.   I have a GK3 mounted on my Peavey Wolfgang Special.

In my VG99, most string settings are at 25, little higher at the high & low Es.

These patches are a little noisy on my rig, but not bad.   Since most of my playing is just jamming with friends, that's OK.   I'd definitely have to clean it up if I wanted to record.

This is an attempt at the 'Daydream' preset on my old GT-8, but a bit beefier on the EQ.  (Which also reminded me of 'Crystalline' on my old RP1.)   The delay basically acts as a sustain.

One thing that might explain a bit - I tend to play with my guitar amp volume up very HIGH, and my VG99 master volume low, like around 9 or 10 o'clock.  This helps control some of the wilder patches I download or the presets, and lets my amp provide some color, while letting the VG99 tones ring true.

I find that low fx volume in & high amp volume are good for BIG voices.  My amp is quitet so there's no problem there.   I use the JC-120 as my main output selection - seems the cleanest.

I also normally play my GK3 volume at about 1/2 to 3/4 volume, in case the dynamics of the jam head north.

I've never played these patches thru a PA, only with my amp.

Any specific suggestions are welcome!
