Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new 13-pin cable for my rig. Ten footer is fine, but I'd like:
- Better 'quality' than the Roland (it's just fine, but it just seems cheap). - Right-angle out (I know, probably not available). When I play on the couch, the cable gets bent sharply on the couch, etc.
Any ideas now that Planet Waves no longer seems to be making these?
Thanks!

[bump!]
I'm looking for recommendations where to get a good price on ordinary 13-pin cables (not right-angled plugs). I'm down to my last good cable.

Be vary of what you buy from eBay. The item listed above for example by a seller called ipodmp34capa is not a real Planet Waves cable. I know because I bought 2 and they turned out to be the lowest quality cables with 13pin plugs that did not have the locking button feature. They would not even fit in the GK3 unless forced. I returned them and got my money out but it took lot of writing. In short don't buy from ipodmp34capa and also read the item description very carefully. Good luck!!!

this is a shame, because the guy is still selling these things and representing them in all of the following ways... "genuine Roland", "Planet Waves", "Planet Waves/D'Addario", or "Roland Planet Waves".
I REALLY need to get a spare cable, but nobody in Tampa keeps them in-stock. Has anybody found a reasonably-priced supplier of a quality cable?
thanks dave

Thanks Elantric, but I guess I don't consider $60 to be a reasonable price. ... and the eBay-er is the guy that MCK warned us about in October, so I'm scared of that product. I did find it listed at Sweetwater and at Gordon Lasalle for $40 with free shipping. I'll probably order one from them on Monday. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GKC3

Yup. Very same guy. I eventually managed to get my money back but it was a journey... Do note the following in his item description :
"THE TITLE IS TO GET YOU TO LOOK AT THE ITEM. THERE MAY BE MODEL NUMBERS IN THE TITLE THAT THE ITEM WORKS WITH, OR LIKE."
So essentially he will say I told you so if you complain that what you get is not Planet Waves original cable...

I ordered one from Sweetwater for $40 and it is a real Roland product. A few days after I got the package, I won an eBay auction for another Roland cable that I had bid $1.26 on! So, looks like I'll have TWO spares soon. Hopefully the eBay cable is in decent working condition.
I'm glad we were able to learn from your experience with that seller who is selling the knockoff cables.

I managed to make one with connectors I got from ebay and cat5 cable. I couldn't think of or source out any cable with that many wires inside so I used a pair of cat5 cables. It was a bit of a PITA but in the end it worked and it was much cheaper. I guess not many out there will take time to DIY this but it is an option.

brilliant! Did you wrap the two cables inside a sheath or just zip-tie them together?

i need a cable too. i am getting very loud "static" - is that what happens when they break down? I just want to be sure it is the cable and not some other componant. Is there a way to test it? Thanks.

I had some heat shrink around so I cut it in smaller pieces and shrunk it every few feet or so. It works, I'm happy. If I could find a suitable cable I'd make a few more. Maybe a VGA cable would work but by the time I pay for it and connectors I'll be in the new Roland cable ball park. thanks

Try to see if someone on the forum is local to you and borrow their cable. Or take your guitar and cable to a shop that sells Roland stuff and test it there. That'll be much easier then trying to troubleshoot 13 wire cable.
