Hello! My name is Alexander. I'm from Russia. Sorry, but I write with the help of Google translator. I would like to ask the following. I'm a home musician, this is my hobby for 40 years. I do not need to connect to a combo amp it vg-99. I have a system Hi Fi Pioneer VSX-1021 I want to buy a sound card focusrite saffire pro 24 dsp, connect to it from the output S / PDIF 99 to the input SPDIF card and from the card to the input S / PDIF Pioneer. I use mostly acoustic and some synth patches. Now I use headphones beyerdynamic dt 880 pro. Guitar Godin Multiac Spectrum Steel SA. Maybe some will advise the other connections? Thank you!

Thank you for the wonderful forum, I learned a lot thanks to you !!!!!!

The VG-99 Outputs PCM Stereo @ 44.1kHz  - and most Home receiver's rear Satellite TV  / DVD digital audio Inputs can directly accept this format. ( its the same digital audio signal that would exist if you played an audio CD in your older DVD player that still had "SPDIF" Digital Audio coax output jack

Only need one "RCA"   (75ohms) Phono to Phono Cable cable

and connect from VG-99 SPDIF Out to one of the ""COAXIAL IN"" Digital inputs  on your Pioneer Receiver - see the yellow jack below

On the front of the Pioneer  - you should set the desired COAX input used for your VG-99 connection. and possibly the front LCD display on the Pioneer will display:

"PCM @ 44.1kHz"

- or something equivalent.

The above connection is possible with most home A/V Receivers that provide a "COAXIAL IN"  SPDIF Input using 75 ohm RCA Phono jack connection.

Elantric, Thanks for the quick response. Sound card I want to use that you could connect a microphone to the receiver. Possible?

All depends on your goals:

Are you recording?

Are you performing  / rehearsing "Live" and need a PA system?

Do you have a computer?

AMV13

While I will not write. Just play for themselves. There are Macbook

I prefer the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 as the minimum Interface for recording with a Mac
Has excellent mic Pres,  low latency and easy accessible  controls that are not buried in a separate Control App.

and if you follow steps here: it can work with iPad

I will see it. In Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP it has built-in, so I wanted to take it.

AMV13

In Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 no SPDIF. How to connect it to the receiver?

Use a pair of RCA phono cables and connect Scarlet 2i4 Stereo Line Out 1/2  into one of the available Line Level Analog Stereo Inputs on lower left rear of  Pioneer VSX-1021

We are sorry! I am a humanist! How can it be connected to VG-99?

Elantric

How many instruments / Mics do you plan on using at same time?

get a larger Focusrite Scarlett with more I/O

A guitar with the VG-99 and not more than two microphones.

AMV13

focusrite scarlett 18i20 stands in Russia 800 USD. A little expensive for me.

Scarlet 6i6

Connect VG-99 Main Outputs to the Scarlet 6i6's rear Line Level Inputs

Connect Mics to the Scarlet 6i6's Front XLR inputs

What year is your MacBook? if its built before 2012 - you already have a SPDIF Input built in

Sorry. Can I have more questions torment? Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP and Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 in Russia have the same price. Why do you advise Scarlett 6i6? She has some advantage or is it your personal experience?

IMHO the SPDIF connection often creates more pain than analog connection, it forces you to record at 44.1kHz for all your audio tracks in your DAW ( which will need to be transcoded to 48kHz if you use these same audio tracks for creating a Video / DVD )

Remember lots of Pros use the VG-99's analog  Sub XLR balanced outputs direct to the Avid Protools interface in a pro studio.

But if you MUST own an an interface with SPDIF Input - then look at
Scarlett-18i6
http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-18i6

also remember the VG-99's USB connection works well for direct recording  / overdubbing tracks into  a Mac

Thank you Elantric I have full confidence in your opinion! I will connect by analogy. And Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 is two times cheaper than the Saffire PRO 24!

Firewire is rather dead  / legacy connection, and the the latest Asynchronous USB 2.0  drivers ( for products since 2010) provide lower latency, and more options for use with multiple computing platforms ( Win/OSX / IOS/ Android / Linux)

The Safire Pro 24 is older "legacy" interface from 2009 era, and its likely in 3 years it will be impossible to obtain a working Audio Driver.
